Posted October 24, 200816 yr Into Friday evening with the 44th set of charts for this year. As usual the top dvds, films, tv, albums, the flashback charts, and then I`ll be back later, for the most up to date chart there is. Here are the top Films: (Compiled by Screen International for UK Box Office) w/k ending 29th Oct 2008 01 NE BURN AFTER READING 02 NE EAGLE EYE 03 RE IGOR 04 01 THE HOUSE BUNNY 05 02 MIRRORS 06 04 TAKEN 07 03 HOW TO LOSE FRIENDS AND ALIENATE PEOPLE 08 07 MAMMA MIA 09 06 CITY OF EMBER 10 05 TROPIC THUNDER The top three, all new..BURN AFTER READING nets £2,045,565, EAGLE EYE nets £1,096,777, and IGOR nets £1,110,859 as a re-entry. Am I the only person that believes Mr Jason is very over-exposed, and over-rated? I thoroughly believe his acting skills, can be summed up by his ITV, 1978 - 81 sitcom "A Sharp Intake Of Breath"...a kind of take on BBC`s "Some Mothers Do `Ave Em. Here are the top albums: w/k ending Weds 29th Oct 2008 01 NE BLACK ICE - AC/DC 02 NE HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3 - OST 03 NE OFF WITH THEIR HEADS - KAISER CHIEFS 04 NE RIGHT NOW - LEON JACKSON 05 NE RADIO ONE LIVE LOUNGE 3 - VARIOUS 06 01 PERFECT SYMMETRY - KEANE 07 03 ONLY BY THE LIGHT - KINGS OF LEON 08 NE SACRED ARIAS - KATHERINE JENKINS 09 02 DIG OUT YOUR SOUL - OASIS 10 NE CATFIGHTS AND SPOTLIGHTS - SUGABABES 11 04 BACK AGAIN - BOYZONE 12 RE KING OF POP - MICHAEL JACKSON 13 07 MASSIVE R + B WINTER COLLECTION 08 - VARIOUS 14 05 YEAR OF THE GENTLEMAN - NE-YO 15 10 MAMMA MIA - OST 16 NE BEST OF - SASH 17 08 GOOD GIRL GONE BAD - RIHANNA 18 13 BEST BETTE - BETTE MIDLER 19 06 LET IT GO - WILL YOUNG 20 12 ROCKFERRY - DUFFY 21 11 CLASSIC BIG TUNES - VARIOUS 22 NE EVOLVER - JOHN LEGEND 23 17 THE SCRIPT - SCRIPT 24 09 SONGS FOR YOU TRUTHS FOR ME - JAMES MORRISON 25 NE BALLADS - MARIAH CAREY 26 21 I STARTED WITH NOTHING... - SEASICK STEVE 27 19 SELDOM SEEN KID - ELBOW 28 16 BEST OF - CHICANE 29 31 MY SONGS - VARIOUS 30 15 NOW YOU`RE GONE - BASSHUNTER WILL YOUNG and DUFFY falling, but these two will most certainly go back up...when Will releases the new single "Grace", and Duffy gives us the re-loaded version of "Rockferry". Time to go back..this week it`s the sensational (and best decade)...the seventies, and 1977. (The charts compiled by a subsidery of EMI/MRIB). The top albums w/k ending 29th Oct 1977 01 01 20 GOLDEN GREATS - DIANA ROSS 02 02 NO MORE HEROES - STRANGLERS 03 13 40 GOLDEN GREATS - CLIFF RICHARD 04 04 RUMOURS - FLEETWOOD MAC 05 09 HOME ON THE RANGE - SLIM WHITMAN 06 03 OXYGENE - JEAN MICHEL JARRE 07 05 MOODY BLUE - ELVIS PRESLEY 08 08 LOVE YOU LIVE - ROLLING STONES 09 07 PASSAGE - CARPENTERS 10 06 GOING FOR THE ONE - YES 11 10 A STAR IS BORN - OST 12 NE HEROES - DAVID BOWIE 13 10 BAD REPUTATION - THIN LIZZY 14 12 PLAYING TO AN AUDIENCE - DAVID SOUL 15 19 THUNDER IN MY HEART - LEO SAYER 16 16 I REMEMBER YESTERDAY - DONNA SUMMER 17 21 GREATEST HITS VOL. 2 - ELTON JOHN 18 14 AJA - STEELY DAN 19 NE SOUL CITY - VARIOUS 20 18 TWO DAYS AWAY - ELKIE BROOKS DIANA ROSS ruling the albums in 1977. Diana also had the up and coming single "Gettin`Ready For Love", out. Although this stalled at 23. The Stranglers stalled at the number 2 album spot, because Diana had 7 weeks at the top. CLIFF was in my collection in 77, and covered most of his hits from 1958 - 77. The ROLLING STONES werw "Live" again. SLIM WHITMAN was still on the circuit, with Country and it`s best. ELVIS was up, and down after his death...clever stuff! Was his death, really a fake? Nobody saw the body, so it could be so. JEAN MICHEL JARRE was breathing well in both the albums and singles chart with a million versions of "OXYGENE". The rock came from THIN LIZZY, YES, and DAVID BOWIE had the big album of the week...well publicised at the time. Now ELTON JOHN was on the rise, with his Greatest Hits 2...this was also in the DT collection, but some "bugger" broke into my car, at the time and nicked it, along with the "ROCK FOLLIES" soundtrack, containing the unforgettable song "GLEN MILLER IS MISSING!" These were the cassette versions, of course..no CDs then! The top singles in October 1977: 01 04 YOU`RE IN MY HEART - ROD STEWART 02 01 YES SIR I CAN BOOGIE - BACCARA 03 02 BLACK IS BLACK - LA BELLE EPOQUE 04 03 SILVER LADY - DAVID SOUL 05 18 NAME OF THE GAME - ABBA 06 10 ROCKIN`ALL OVER THE WORLD - STATUS QUO 07 17 HOLIDAYS IN THE SUN - SEX PISTOLS 08 09 BLACK BETTY - RAM JAM 09 06 STAR WARS THEME-CANTINA BAND - MECO 10 05 I REMEMBER ELVIS PRESLEY - DANNY MIRROR 11 08 NO MORE HEROES - STRANGLERS 12 16 CALLING OCCUPANTS OF INTERPLANETRY CRAFT - CARPENTERS 13 07 BEST OF MY LOVE - EMOTIONS 14 32 WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS - QUEEN 15 34 2,4,6,8, MOTORWAY - TOM ROBINSON BAND 16 30 VIRGINIA PLAIN - ROXY MUSIC 17 25 NEEDLES AND PINS - SMOKIE 18 13 I REMEMBER YESTERDAY - DONNA SUMMER 19 11 WAY DOWN - ELVIS PRESLEY 20 14 WONDROUS STORIES - YES 21 15 FROM HERE TO ETERNITY - GEORGIO MORODER 22 22 LOVE HURTS - NAZARETH 23 12 FROM NEW YORK TO L.A. - PATSY GALLANT 24 20 HEROES - DAVID BOWIE 25 24 I CAN`T GET YOU OUT OF MY MIND - YVONNE ELLIMAN 26 NE I BELIEVE YOU - DOROTHY MOORE 27 28 ANGEL OF THE MORNING-ANYWAY THAT YOU WANT ME (MEDLEY) - MARY MASON 28 33 NEW LIVE AND RARE E.P. - DEEP PURPLE 29 23 THUNDER IN MY HEART - LEO SAYER 30 26 GREATEST LOVE OF ALL - GEORGE BENSON 31 NE SHE`S NOT THERE - SANTANA 32 19 TELEPHONE MAN - MERI WILSON 33 NE WATER MARGIN THEME - PETER MAC JUNIOR/GODIEGO 34 35 HAPPY DAYS THEME - PRATT AND MCLAIN 35 21 MAGIC FLY - SPACE 36 31 DO YOUR DANCE - ROSE ROYCE 37 NE LOVE BUG - TINA CHARLES 38 NE HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE - BEE GEES 39 27 LOOKING AFTER NUMBER ONE - BOOMTOWN RATS 40 29 DOWN DEEP INSIDE - DONNA SUMMER ROD STEWART having a midweek number one in 1977, not official though. Funny enough BACCARA, was number one..a whole week before Radio One`s top 30! LA BELLE EPOQUE re-cut LOS BRAVOS 1966 number 2, and also got stuck at 2. DAVID SOUL got his 2nd (and best) chart topper. ABBA were going for a 5th. STATUS QUO didn`t get one at this point. SEX PISTOLS were not doing so well, but still managed that "Holiday". RAM JAM had "BLACK BETTY" for the first time. MECO gave us the theme to the top film, that week with the original (and best) STAR WARS. DANNY MIRROR "mirrored" ELVIS, coming from Holland..with the English version helped by MIKE AHERN (the Radio Luxembourg DJ, who announced the "death" of Elvis on the 16th Aug 77, a Tuesday night/Wednesday morning..on the midnight news.."Ladies and Gentleman, the King is dead. Elvis Presley died in his home in Memphis, Tennesee". THE CARPENTERS gave us one of the longest titles ever. QUEEN stormed the chart, but were not quite "the Champions", and fell at number 2 with this song. THE EMOTIONS were all over the radio playlists, but could not manage the top 3. TOM ROBINSON was glad to be gay, and had a top 5 hit. ROXY MUSIC had a re-issue of their 1972 hit "VIRGINIA PLAIN". SMOKIE sung the SEARCHERS number one hit. YES had their biggest single. NAZARETH gave us a rock version of "LOVE HURTS", coming from their E.P. PATSY GALLANT went from "NEW YORK TO LA", but missed the top 5. GEORGIO MORODER was currently producing DONNA SUMMER hits. DAVID BOWIE had the single version of HEROES, just like the album, it was not so big, as people had forecast and peaked at 20. DOROTHY MOORE came back after "MISTY BLUE", but this hit (I BELIEVE YOU) only squeezed the top 20. MARY MASON gave us a medley of the classic "ANGEL OF THE MORNING", and the TROGGS 1966 hit "ANYWAY THAT YOU WANT ME". LEO SAYER dropped with the original of "THUNDER IN MY HEART". SANTANA covered the ZOMBIES 1964 hit. GEORGE BENSON gave us the original of a later WHITNEY HOUSTON top tenner. DEEP PURPLE were on the rebound, and got a few more hits, after Live appearances. PRATT AND MCLAIN gave us the "HAPPY DAYS" theme. THE WATER MARGIN was the rather strange tv show import. The late MERI WILSON gave us one of the shortest top 5 hits ever. BOOMTOWN RATS, and BOB GELDOF had their first hit. DONNA SUMMER had the theme to "THE DEEP"...the film in the chart, and also remembered yesterday..both on different record labels. My Fav of 1977 was Yvonne Elliman`s "I CAN`T GET YOU OUT OF MY MIND"...Surely this should have been a top 10 hit...have a listen...while you wait for the up to the minute singles chart... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CYlqx71m5NQ Or the Nolan Sisters on the Two Ronnies... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uLsaJgOlQ_k
October 24, 200816 yr I can just about remember that retro chart, as I remember listening to David Soul, Heroes is my favourite David Bowie hit and still is should have been a top 10 hit, mind you his old back catalogue was his best, after Ashes To Ashes, my favourite #1 of his and Blue Jeans, his music changed direction and I lost interest completely. Roxy Music - Virgina Plane  And on a different note, looks like Sugababes might have to settle for #8, after the various albums are removed from the top 10.
October 24, 200816 yr hopefully the album chart is gonna be different. #16 for Sash would be disappointing
October 24, 200816 yr hopefully the album chart is gonna be different. #16 for Sash would be disappointing I always calculate it without compliations, and that puts Sash! at #12 in the album chart there.
October 24, 200816 yr hopefully the album chart is gonna be different. #16 for Sash would be disappointing I think it will be between 10-12 on Sunday...much higher than he got with the 2000 Greatest Hits album he had

October 24, 200816 yr Thanks Dave, that's looking promising for Will's Grace then - he's not started promo yet, and it's yet to be playlisted.
October 24, 200816 yr Thanks dave Girls Aloud have comfortably walked away with the #1 spot this week and it's good to see some decent chart movement in the top 10 for the second week in a row. Back to 1977 it seems like a bit of a dull chart in retrospect though I did like it at the time. Giorgio's single "From Here To Eternity" is still great, as is Magic Fly by Space. I'd just got into buying singles at the time, looking at that list I had only 4 singles, within a couple of years it would be more like half the chart at times! I did get many of these songs in the end when I got Disco Fever as a Christmas present - the old K-Tel album contained quite a few of these songs. The big news of this week in 1977 was the release of a certain album by the Sex Pistols, released on Friday October 28, 1977. It reached #1 on the BMRB / BBC / Music Week chart on two days sales but due to the fact that the BMRB album chart wasn't compiled until a Wednesday back then the album chart was published in Music Week almost a week after it had been compiled and so didn't actually enter at #1 until the Music Week chart dated 12/11/77. Back to the present - where is The Bill in the TV charts? After years of being a dreadful soap with ridiculous storylines, it's started being half decent again and I've sort of started watching it again but it never seems to appear in the top 10 listings. Back in its heyday, in the mid 90s when I never missed a single episode, it was getting 16m an episode. Though of course the method of calculating audience was less sophisticated back then - people filling in diaries writing in what they had watched...

Back in its heyday, in the mid 90s when I never missed a single episode, it was getting 16m an episode. Though of course the method of calculating audience was less sophisticated back then - people filling in diaries writing in what they had watched... The Bill got 5.86m last week, and is bottom top 15...if you slip in all the episodes of soaps, it slips further down the top 25. I wonder is it time to call it a day? Remember the original 1984 hour long series? Seen as a replacement for the likes of "The Sweeney" etc? In those days a 9pm slot, that followed an hour of comedy with "Chance In A Million", with the wonderful Simon Callow, and Brenda Blethyn...and "Fresh Fields", with the late Anton Rogers, and the much alive Julia Mckensie. Thames tv`s answer to BBC`s "Terry And June". It make`s you wonder what happened to tv!
October 24, 200816 yr I watched the original (1984-87) Bill once or twice but couldn't get into it. It took a relaunch and a change to half hour episodes in 1988 before I started to watch it regularly and from 1988 to 2000 I didn't miss that many episodes. But once Beech and the old CID went I lost interest and stopped watching in 2001 or 2002. It's only in the past 6 months I've started watching it now and again. Hard to believe now, but the guy who played DI Galloway (the Ginger Ferrett as he was called by his DC's!) in the original Bill - John Salthouse - quit in 1987 because he felt it was becoming too much like a soap. What would he think now?! Edited October 24, 200816 yr by Robbie

What would he think now?! I suppose when you look at it though, most series like the Bill were kind of soaplike with getting to know the regular characters. I was thinking "Juliet Bravo", both Stephanie Turner and Anna Carteret...possibly better with Stephanie.
October 24, 200816 yr Big album releases next week from Pink, Snow Patrol, Bloc Party, and possibility Saturdays and Anastacia all going top 10, should clear a few deadwood. It be a very interesting album chart next week, and another hectic mid thread
October 24, 200816 yr album sales have the potential to be high, and getting higher each week, for the next 2 months in the run up to Christmas. Let's hope so anyway...
October 24, 200816 yr Author I think Snow Patrol will beat Pink in the album chart next week. Have a look at the pre-orders of albums, and likely falls/droppers in sales: 01 Pink NEW 02 Snow Patrol NEW 03 Saturdays NEW 04 AC/DC (1) 05 Kaisers (2) 06 Leon Jackson (3) 07 The Cure NEW 08 Kings Of Leon (4) 09 Celine Dion NEW 10 Bloc Party NEW That`s without compilations...that would include both, HSM3 and the Live Lounge in the top 5. MOS Annual 08, would be above The Cure. If you do it singles wise, I would get the overall picture like this: 01 Hero - X Factor NEW 02 Girls Aloud (1) 03 Guru Josh (4) 04 Razorlight (5) 05 Katy Perry (8) 06 Pink (2) 07 Kings Of Leon (3) 08 Kanye (7) 09 Saturdays (6) 10 Sash (9) Maybe getting ahead of ourselves there! Pretty dead week, for singles on 27th. Guru Josh is out physically on the 3rd Nov, so that could do it, but it`s likely to be Leona Lewis on the 3rd. On reckoning that Christina Aguilera has had her day now, which may upset some.
October 25, 200816 yr Thanks, dave. You know, I look at pre-orders and get   . Not having a clue who some of those charters are. Fightstar? Sounds dodgy :P
October 25, 200816 yr Author Thanks, dave. You know, I look at pre-orders and get   . Not having a clue who some of those charters are. Fightstar? Sounds dodgy :P Well I`d better do an advert for Fightstar then! They are a four-piece rock band from London, formed in 2003. They have recorded 2 full albums, since then and an EP. They have gone to a new label now (Search And Destroy Records). Which they did last month. Originally they had 2 top 20 singles in 2005. These were "Paint Your Target", and "Grand Unification". "Palahniuk`s Laughter", should have been a hit in March 2005, as it got lot`s of support on music channels. The Album of "Grand Unification", entered the Tuesday mids at number 11, in March 2006...but by the Sunday chart, it fell to 28. Earlier this year they gave away their own recording of classic Iron Maiden album "Fear Of The Dark". This came free with an issue of KERRANG magazine. They have also sung some Metallica stuff too. They started out on Island Records, had a break from Sept 2006 - Feb 2007...when they went to Institute Records. Check out the new single then...Unfortunately I don`t think it will do that well, in today`s music climate. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=8z8VswY66fs
October 25, 200816 yr would be quite something if Anastacia's album missed the top ten and The Saturdays went top 3!

The initial buzz for Fightstar was down to the Busted connection though this obviously can no longer be the case since Busted split almost 4 years ago and the music is radically different.

Should I reveal that Daniel O` Donnell`s "Country Boy" album is neck and neck on pre-orders with Anastacia!...Also, we have Katie Melua`s Collection, and Ryan Adam`s "Cardinology". More in the compilations sector by way of Pop Party 5, Now 25 Years, The Best Of Bond, and Classic FM Smooth Classics...all top 30 on combined pre-orders. Maybe I should say there is only minimal predicted sales seperating Pink, and Snow Patrol...Don`t forget the Next Week`s Chart thread on Monday from 5pm.
