obviously I wouldn't give Spice Girls the 12 like I did in BJSCI but I didn't really get the whole concept of the contest back then :heehee: my voting would be all over the place though and so confusing, do I give Tattoo the 12 because it was unknown back then but is known now? or do I give Push The Button the 12 because it's better than Tattoo but was a cheap entry back then? or do I listen again to all the really unknown entries that I would have proabably not given much of a chance to at the time and give them a 12 because they were the only songs that weren't cheap? all I remember about BJSCI is that it was a sea of cheapness and Macedonian songs

I don't know about the NSC, but I don't think every idea that works well there also works well here :P

Lauren Rose for BJSC I! But yes, LOL at the sea of Macedonian songs in the early contests  I'd go with the Best of BJSC voting system - vote for what wasn't cheap at the time :o

I think it would be an interesting idea personally, maybe not for all of the contests (BJSC V is essentially a 'modern' contest, and I doubt much would be changed...except MIA would be 2nd and Cascadia wouldn't be involved for reasons of retrospect ), but it would be very interesting to see how the first three contests would play out under current circumstances ^_^

I don't get people's logic whatsoever. You hate revotes but are all for the Best Of? The Best Of is based on the same principle. Say a song like Mine All Mine goes and wins the whole thing? People could just say, oh well it should have won in BJSC7.

None of these arguments are making sense to me TBH.

To be honest I've never been all for the Best Of either.

I think it would have been a much better idea to wait until we had 25 or so contests over with so we could have enough winners for an all-winners contest.

And Tyron, I'm not implying that it would "tinker" with earlier results in the way that you put it, but it would certainly imply that some of the winners "shouldn't" have won.

Alot of countries from the original contests have absolutely no interest any more, David and Rich have already spoken against the idea, and I can't see many of the newer countries being bothered, which surely would be the point of these rematches?

If only 10 or so people were to take part surely then it would prove even less as there would be less countries voting than there were originally.

The best of is completely different to just having the same contests over again. The best of will incorporate several songs from ten contests, rather than having the same 24/25 that we had in BJSC I. The best of means we find out the voters' favourite songs from the ten contests... what does re-running individual contests show? Not a lot imo...

even if Mine All Mine were to win, that wouldn't prove that it was a better song than I Kissed A Girl, IKAG was definitely a deserving winner because it was the right song at the right time...if it finishes lower in this, it's because people are voting differently because IKAG has been shoved down our throats every day since BSJC7 whereas Mine All Mine, Just Dance and Can't Let Go are still unknown songs in the UK...

I don't know about everyone else but I'll be voting entirely based on the song strength in the Best Of, so if I end up voting for mostly winners, so be it! I would hate to see all of our winners trail in right at the bottom of the leaderboard just because they might be seen as cheap now...but if that were to happen, that wouldn't prove that these songs were unjust winners would it!?!

we'd have to have a great memory of release dates to remember what was and wasn't cheap at the time of these contests

BJSCV was quite large - 27 countries, so I agree that it wouldn't need replaying...

if we really must replay these contests but with retrospective changes (e.g. taking out BWO), please let me swap the live Believe Again video for the proper one  at the time, I didn't realise that we were allowed to enter songs on picture videos, I thought we had to enter proper music videos or live performances, and at the time, there wasn't a proper music video for Believe Again!

Why must we have these re-run contests anyway? So far I've only seen two people in favour of them...
maybe we should have a vote in a separate thread before anything goes ahead, just to guage the level of interest, a lot of people haven't viewed any opinion at all, so may well be up for doing it

that sounds like a good idea.

keep all the discussion about it away from TBO odds. as the two really are unrelated.

Eurgh @ the idea of re-voting. Why change something that's already happened?

It wouldn't be changing it, it would be to see how the contests would fare in today's BJSC environment ;)

but we were all so naive back then  we wouldn't pick some of those entries now...I'm willing to bet Faztickle wouldn't pick Maneater again :heehee: it was a stroke of luck that I picked Believe Again (even though it flopped hugely), I almost picked something very cheap and awful, Headlines by Spice Girls, luckily Simon had already picked Say You'll Be There as his entry...imagine how awful that would have looked on FSR Rontvia's entries history  at least Believe Again is half respectable, even if nobody liked it!

I'm not sure that I would ever pick Glorious by Andreas Johnson in the current era BJSC, just because Rontvia is more about supporting unknown music now rather than reminding people of old hits...

i don't know if i would pick Push The Button again.

I probs would have picked an album track or b-side.

But we all talk about that anyway. It's a good thing to speculate on, without having to conduct a scientific experiment to prove anything.

I don't regret about any song i've entered :D Even this "terrible" first entry of mine in BJSCIV :kink:

I don't regret sending anything, I just wouldn't necessarily send some of those songs now

I don't regret Headhunted because it caused the most controversy a song ever has done in the BJSC! and I don't regret Thermostatic because it was something a bit different from FSR Rontvia, even though only Kingdom of Shadow and Utopia particularly appreciated it :heehee:

Hmmm, I was going to pick Battle or What's Your Problem for BJSC I before I picked up on Jordin :o I probably wouldn't send Vanessa Williams for the same reason as yours now...and I wouldn't have sent Rachel Stevens to BJSC VII :heehee: I should've sent Jennifer then! :(

I found Rachel to be a particularly odd choice, even though I gave it points and it finished top ten, it just stuck out as the sort of thing Kopecka are usually against

I bet you're glad you picked Tattoo and not Battle for BJSCI :P

I'm damn glad I didn't choose Battle for BJSC I! :heehee: And Rachel came as a result of it being the stand-out song in a national final filled with ridiculously cheap or below par songs :( Again, I should've sent Jennifer! :heehee:
