Well done to PINK..Just like we said last Friday. PINK`s album shares it`s title with a banned episode of THE FANTASTIC JOURNEY from 1977 (a sci-fi series, where some travellers, get lost in the Bermuda Triangle...and spent 11 week`s trying to get back home). Unfortunately they never did get back home, as the series was promptly cancelled! 25 years, since the release of the very first "NOW" album. I do remember the first one. 1983, when the album was very popular. The number of people that won it, on DAVID HAMILTON` s MUSIC GAME (when Radio 2, was great), was astronomical. As Katie Melua get`s the number 25 album..I wonder if she can get a hit, with the new single? Probably not, as she seem`s to have been shunned off of Radio Stations playlists.

ERASURE beating them all in 1989. WILD was an instant charttopper, following up their previous album "THE INNOCENTS". A mixed bag chart, with good old KYLIE..she had already been top with ENJOY YOURSELF, and was now re-climbing. KATE BUSH couldn`t quite get to the top. BELINDA CARLISLE was doing ok, but the title track was not that big. TERENCE TRENT DARBY returned after a break...TERENCE (was he the male version of TASMIN ARCHER, as someone suggested 3 years later)?! MILLI VANILLI were once again not singing, thanks to FRANK FARIAN..who did much the same for the un-English speaking "Bobby" in BONEY M. TRACEY CHAPMAN`s second album could not match the success of her previous album. WEDDING PRESENT appeared on an early excursion. TEARS FOR FEARS gave us an album, in which the title track was very big...not so for many an album, that shared it`s title with the single. As November approached all the Greatest Hits albums appeared..as in CHRIS DE BURGH, GLADYS KNIGHT AND THE PIPS, and even FOSTER AND ALLEN at 49. We all watched Phillip Schofield (with his original hair colour) in "THE SMASH HITS POLL WINNERS PARTY". There were only 6 VA Compilations in the top 50 combined chart..The others were RAP ATTACK at 32, IS THIS LOVE at 33, and THE GREATEST LOVE 3 at 46.

50 NE NOT AT ALL - STATUS QUO

Good stuff in 1989..apart from a bit of a JIVE BUNNY dose...3 consecutive number ones. Luckily they were not 3 number 2s! Or maybe they were! :teresa: Told you about MILLI VANILLI. THE REBEL MC were STREET TUFF..which you had to be in `89. LISA STANSFIELD out of Rochdale..real surname of "Fields", had all that in common with legendry GRACIE FIELDS. Lisa had started her career replacing YAZZ in COLDCUT/PLASTIC POPULATION. We remember DAVID JENSEN on THE NETWORK CHART with his "ROOM IN YOUR HEAART" and the pronounciation, of the LIVING IN A BOX hit! We got housey and dancey with DE LA SOUL, BLACK BOX, ADEVA, FRESH 4, TECHNOTRONIC, SYDNEY YOUNGBLOOD, ELECTRIBE 101, MIXMASTER, BELOVED, RAUL ORELLANA, and SYBIL...SYBIL was trying a go at a DIONNE WARWICK recording, which only squeezed into the 1966 chart in Britain, when recorded by the SWINGING BLUE JEANS. CHRIS REA finally got a top 10 hit, with his tribute to the M25! DEBORAH HARRY was solo again, did she get that man? KYLIE had to be content with another number 2...no comments this time (well I don`t want to annoy Mart!n)!!!! MARTIKA was at her best. BILLY JOEL returned. CATHY DENNIS appeared with D MOB. OH WELL was originally a 1969 number 2, for FLEETWOOD MAC. OH WELL-the group took it to 22. QUEEN got a smallish hit with SCANDAL. Love is the message, and the message is love...was the greeting of ARTHUR BAKER/AL GREEN and co...there were loads of other mixes of this, without the Reverand Al Green. FISH came out of MARILLION, for a solo stint. SINITTA sung ROBERT KNIGHT`s 1973 top ten hit...she stalled at at 15. TRANSVISION VAMP...and the lovely/nasty WENDY JAMES was just about finished...BORN TO BE SOLD stalled at 17. LEVEL 42 had problems. BROTHER BEYOND went disco, for a comeback hit. I can`t remember the small SIMPLY RED song...that was obviously as usual popular on Independant Radio. JANET JACKSON had her RHYTHM NATION tour. THE LAMBADA make`s me think of Mr Bruce Forsyth, on the GENERATION GAME circa 1990! AND WHY NOT are long forgotten...remember their bigger hit "THE FACE?" HALO JAMES should have gone from strength to strength, but didn`t. STATUS QUO got out their 12 gold bars, for another top 50 hit, and my particular fav, came via "PANDORA`s BOX"...Why didn`t this make the top 40?...Check it out, while I prepare the new singles chart....

Hi Dave! Thanks for this. Can't believe Mamma Mia is still top 10 on movies, even though it's out on DVD next week! Some great songs in the 1989 chart too. Ride On Time

I read somewhere that it's not that far off taking Titanic's title as the UK's biggest ever film at the box office :o I don't think it will quite get there as it will surely be taken out of the cinemas next week...

DigitalSpy have a list of the top 10 films last weekend. HSM3 took over £8 million whilst Saw V took over £2 million.
Some great songs from 1989, Black Box, Janet Jackson her best hit to date, The Beloved, Martika, CKTC, Lisa Stansfield and the lovely Kylie, name check a few.

Actually, I read earlier this wek it was the biggest film in the UK ever. But maybe that wasn't on gross. My favourite movie of the year (but I am a huge ABBA fan)

Just realised that the Pandora's Box song is the original of Celine Dion! Awesome!

= Is the position on Chart Show tv.

No good news there! X FACTOR becomes the one of the fastest sellers of the decade, when in a normal week GIRLS ALOUD would still be at the top. I feel for the VIEW, who are at 51 with 5 REBECCAS. Also outside the 50: there is TAIO CRUZ, NE-YO, KID ROCK, T-PAIN, OASIS, T.I, VAMPIRE WEEKEND, AKON - I`M SO PAID...all top 60. Also in the 75 are: SFG, JOHNNY CASH, BELLAMY BROTHERS, RAY PARKER JNR, SATURDAYS (their previous hit), ELBOW going back up, and Halloween brings up other related hits via BOBBY BORIS PICKETT, and MICHAEL JACKSON (who is pretty scary on his own)! :teresa:

REMEMBER: This is not the official chart. It is based on Chart Show tv`s chart, but with added info from the team of moi, to bring it up to date...late Friday PM. (The Chart Show Top 20, can be seen Saturdays 9-10.30am, or Sundays 10-11.30am (Sky Channel 365)...especially if like so many, you miss TOTP, or The Chart Show, or CD:UK).

Gonna end with those top pre-orders:

03 TAKE THAT - GREATEST DAY 24th

07 BEYONCE - IF I WAS A BOY 10th

08 WILL YOUNG - GRACE 1st Dec

09 PUDSEY`S BEAUTIFUL DREAM 10th

10 BRITNEY SPEARS - WOMANIZER 24th

Top pre-order Albums for Monday 3rd:

We deduce from this, that GIRLS ALOUD will possibly take top album next week, and LEONA`s going to have to settle for number 2 single...

Mucho thanks for the Britney & Dido information, dave!  Coming from a former gal who had a '98 airplay #1 classic! ;)

 at Razorlight already falling to #9

Seeing as there are two compilations above Bloc PArty in the albums, that would make them #5, right?

How come on the Sunday Chart Predictions thread, they're listed as being at #6? Are the charts compiled differently? (Sorry for being so annoying btw dave!)

Thanks for the info -_-

I guess Dido won't be breaking the top 40 this weekend, its a shame such a good record, seems some fans have deserted her, as she waited too long to bring out her material, just hope her album does well.

Just realised that the Pandora's Box song is the original of Celine Dion! Awesome!

Absolutely! It`s a shame that Pandora`s Box recieved little airplay in 1989. Although it did get played by David Jensen in the London area in the pre-Network Chart bubblers on Capital FM (a kind of version of Bruno Brookes` Chartbusters). Remember Chartbusters in that 4.30-5pm slot on Radio One...followed by the missing out of 10 records in the top 40, when Bruno counted them down twixt 5 and 7pm?

I noted in 1989, if you lived around the London area...The Network Chart in the 4-7pm slot got 43 records in!

Well, as you know..we are not allowed to put up any Official info, so the album chart breaks off late Wednesday (like Chart Show tv). And compiled by DTR.

Although the Singles chart, that I put up on a Friday, is the most up to date chart, you`ll see anywhere...thanks to the great team of researchers I work with elsewhere.

Thanks for the info Dave.

Somehow I think next weekend's chart will be a lot more exciting than this week's with some big guns (Britney, Beyonce, Christina + Alesha Dixon) releasing on downloads.

Ah ok thank you for explaining it B)

Thanks Dave. Could you post where is James Morrison's album is please?

James is in a combined artist/compilation chart at 38...next door to The Cure, who struggle at 39.
