Simon Cowell is reportedly furious after Beyoncé was given a song originally intended for Leona Lewis' new album.

Lewis had been expected to record 'Halo' and release it as the first single from her second album. The song was written for The X Factor winner by OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder, who also penned 'Bleeding Love'.

The track was then given to Beyoncé because Lewis was "too busy to record it", according to The Sun.

"Leona’s diary is so rammed it didn’t look like she could record it until next year. Ryan didn’t want to hang around, so he gave it to Beyoncé," an insider told the newspaper.

"Simon is miffed about this as he really wanted 'Halo' for Leona. Ryan has proved he’s got the magic touch - 'Bleeding Love' was a massive global hit."

Lewis is expected to release the follow up to debut album Spirit in 2009 and embark on a world tour the following year.

If this is true, perhaps we should change the name of Beyonce's album to "I Am... Stealing b**ch?"

Again if this is true, this makes it the second song to be "stolen" for her album (so far...)

I like 'Halo' but I really don't think it's amazing and lead single material. It would have worked with Leona but I'm not that bothered she doesn't have it. Leona's 100% going back into the studio with Ryan Tedder for her second album anyway so I'm sure they will come up with some more good songs. :)
I've just heard the song and I really do think its amazing after listening to it once, possibly one of Beyonces best. Would have loved Leona to have it she would have sounded much better!

I LOVE 'Halo' and I actually think it will suit Leona's voice ALOT better!

Here's an article I was about to post....

Beyonce Steals Songwriter From Leona

Simon Cowell was left reeling today after Beyonce recorded a song that was originally intended for Leona Lewis.

The track called ‘Halo' was written for Leona by Ryan Tedder, lead singer for soft-pop act One Republic, who also wrote Leona's transatlantic smash ‘Bleeding Love'.

Cowell was said to be shocked by the news that Beyonce had recorded the track as he had previously agreed with Tedder that the song would be recorded by Leona.

An insider at SongBMG, Leona's record label, said: "Leona's diary is so rammed it didn't look like she could record it until next year. Ryan didn't want to hang around so he gave it to Beyonce".

Although it's hard to fault Beyonce for wanting to perform the track, I can't help thinking that the song would suit Leona's tones a lot more. Listen to Beyonce's version of the track below and let us know who you would prefer to hear sing 'Halo'.

But can you really blame Beyonce for taking this? I'm sure she didn't know it was intended for Leona, if she did then that's a different story

It's a slower version of Leona's 'Take a Bow' I think ^_^ I still love it regardless!

I love that song! I think it would have suited Leona's voice MUCH better, I hope they still use it for her album. :D
I think it would have suited Leona better but I can't blame Beyoncé for taking it when offered. It's a bit like the story about Rihanna 'taking' "Umbrella" from Mary J. Blige as she was too busy to record it. I'm sure this kinda thing happens often, another example would be 'Bleeding Love' was a leftover Jesse McCartney track so you could say she 'stole' that. I don't know the official story behind 'I Will Be' but wasn't that a Avril Lavigne reject that Avril later released on a deluxe edition? I'm not sure what came first though, Leona's album or the deluxe Avril album - probably Avril's though.

I Will Be was the B-side to Girlfriend I think.

Anyway it's hardly stealing. Ryan Tedder will have wanted to sell the song, so he did. If Leona couldn't take a day out of her schedule then that's her's and Syco's fault. You snooze, you lose.

Completely agree with Rooney and Aaron and would have posted the same if they didnt beat me to it LOL.

Beyonce has stolen nothing! LMAO.

It would be amazing if Leona recorded it though, Its a brilliant song and I would LOVE to hear her version.

this song is amazing but it would just be bleeding love part 2 imo

I really want to listen to Beyonce's version but im waiting until the albums realese.

Beyonce stole nothing if you ask me, like Aaron poins out Leona did the very same thing with I Will Be and Bleeding Love.

Not so much with Bleeding Love...

BL was originally supposed to be on Jesse's album but they felt it didnt fit in with the feel of the album so they put it out to other artists and Ryan Tedder re-worked it and offered it to Leona...

In this case, Leona wanted to record it and most likely put it on the album but Ryan Tedder offered it to other people [beyonce] KNOWING that Simon and Leona still wanted it

i have to agree songwriters will have songs and sell them- they will often be recorded by a few artists

rihanna said on this morning she had to fight for umbrella and disturbia as other acts wanted them, no suprise that the female singers will want the best songs.

christina milian was offered SOS and rejected it then Rihanna had it

Avril did not want 'I Will Be' for album so sold it on...

Christina Aguilera didnt want 'Miss Independant' so Kelly Clarkson got it

Leona obviously wasnt ready for 'Halo' Beyonce was..

i think 'Halo' would have been massive for Leona though, its brilliant!!!
