November 13, 200816 yr surely that number must vary wildly? Often, CD singles these days are thrown together as very low cost versions. Certainly for the artist, they receive greater royalties in general per unit for CDS than D/Ls. But it makes you wonder if there was a bit more support maintained for the physical format (okay with d/ls it's never gonna be like the 90s again) if it would make the physical more profitable/sustainable for record companies. They are kind of shooting themselves in the foot with this. D/L advantage is low overheads, though they are cheap most of cost is profit for record company
November 16, 200816 yr Author Aww no early sales then this week, still MW should reveal tomorrow that T.I. Feat. Rihanna and The Killers have made this list, also could Katy Perry and Britney Spears have sold over 30k this week? :o
December 4, 200816 yr Here are the alltime biggest weekly sales for singles charting on downloads alone (either before a physical release or without a physical release). 01 22/11/08 64,661 T.I. Ft Rihanna Live Your Life (2) 02 15/11/08 64,554 Beyoncé If I Were A Boy (2) 03 22/11/08 56,280 The Killers Human (4) 04 29/03/08 51,857 Estelle Ft Kanye West American Boy (1) 05 01/03/08 50,962 Duffy Mercy (1) Was trying to think what the possible highest weekly digital sales have been with simultaneous physical releases and these are the contenders I think with over 50k: Leona Lewis, A Moment Like This 139,629 Leona Lewis, Run 131,593 XFF, Hero (wk 1) 128,204 Leona Lewis, Bleeding Love (wk 1) 106,029 Hero (wk 2) 78k? Bleeding Love (wk 2) 76k? Gnarls Barkley, Crazy 74k? Leon Jackson, When You Believe 60,949 Bleeding Love (wk 3) 54,408 And possibly the digital components from these two #1s this year where I could only find the combined totals: Girls Aloud, The Promise: 77109 Duffy, Mercy: 72,724 And who knows how many Shayne's really sold on downloads in his debut week. Definitely less than A Moment Like This. Edited December 8, 200816 yr by 6weeksatnumber7
December 4, 200816 yr So Leona's Run will top this chart at the end of this week as it's already ahead of T.I Rihanna.
December 4, 200816 yr I'm sure 'Run' is gonna take the record but you have to take into account sales of Shayne and Leona's debut singles as well. I mean I know the download market has grown massively in the past couple of years but I'm sure Leona's AMLT or BL did like 50k of downloads in 30 minutes? Something along those lines anyway - Sure it would've done a lot more over the course of the week.

December 4, 200816 yr This is for downloads alone though, Shayne and Leona had physical release with their debut singles and 'Bleeding Love'. Think they're referring to my post where I've tried to extend the thread to include digital sales when a physical is also out. I mentioned Shayne and Leona but I'm highly sceptical of the digital numbers for both given the market was far less developed.
December 7, 200816 yr Author So Leona's Run will top this chart at the end of this week as it's already ahead of T.I Rihanna. Blasted to the top! :)
December 15, 200816 yr So it's looking like Alexandra will top this chart come sunday then? :D No because there are physicals too on the same week ^_^ Edited December 15, 200816 yr by Harve
December 15, 200816 yr No because there are physicals too on the same week ^_^ Ahh I see, only Alex was on tv this lunchtime and she was being told that she'd just had the biggest selling download sales ever.
December 15, 200816 yr Alexandra sold 105,000 Downloads yesterday. So, she already has the UK's No.1, (Best Selling), Single as I write. Leona won't have sold 105,000 copies - even with Sunday & Monday added together. However, it is all very, very safe, & predictable. We may as well decide, on January 1st each Year, that the 'X Factor' Winner will be No.1 at Christmas. Hardly exciting is it?
December 21, 200816 yr Updated 21/12/2008. Jeff #3, Leona now #'s 1,2 & 4. Ah there may be a bit of controversy here - Hallelujah was released as a physical single in the UK last year. The B-side was a cover of The Smiths' "I Know It's Over". Record Label: SonyBMG Catalogue No: 88697098847
