Posted November 16, 200816 yr Carson, Hart, James Bridge, Davies, Johnson, Terry, Lescott, Mancienne, Richards, Upson Barry, Carrick, Downing, Lampard, Gerrard, Wright-Phillips, A Young Agbonlahor, Bent, Crouch, Defoe, Walcott. ---- Good squad I think, with Brown, Ferdinand, A Cole, J Cole, Rooney, Heskey and possibly Terry all injured it'll be good to see what some of these players can do. Mancienne is a shock inclusion but he is a good defender and I am pleased he's in there. Not impressed with Upson and Lescott retaining their places there, Upson was poor for England last month, Lescott has always been poor in an England shirt and neither are doing much for their clubs. Even Titus Bramble would've been a better pick! Though I'd have had Cahill and Jagielka...
November 16, 200816 yr Now I'm no expert - but aren't there a few too many players there? Nope, it's always a 23 man squad ;) I agree about Jagielka he's been much better than Upson who was c**p in the two games he's played for England this season anyway! I say we try: Hart Johnson Davies Richards Bridge Wright-Phillips Gerrard Carrick A Young Walcott Agbonlahor The two frontmen will scare the c**p out of them with their pace
November 16, 200816 yr Nope, it's always a 23 man squad ;) Sounds exciting - Maybe I should start following football :o But yeh I'll leave the intense discussions of who's good at what and where and that shizzle to you peoples who know what your chatting about now ^_^
November 16, 200816 yr You should ^_^ It's great :P I think my team is unlikely to play considering Capello doesn't want to play too many inexperienced players at the same time though!
November 16, 200816 yr Good to see Gerrard has used the same trick Chelsea and Man Utd players have been doing for years with these pointless friendleys. The team will be something like this no doubt, James Bridge Terry Upson Richards Downing Lampard Barry Wright-Phillips Walcott Defoe
November 17, 200816 yr The same trick he used in September in that case ;) I don't think we'd face Delap without Rio deliberately myself and I certainly don't think Rooney would let Fergie tell him not to play for England!
November 17, 200816 yr Author Good to see Gerrard has used the same trick Chelsea and Man Utd players have been doing for years with these pointless friendleys. Nothing pointless about friendlies, well there shouldn't be anyway. But Sven made them a complete joke by using 20+ players everytime, no one's cared (fans and players) since then which is a huge shame as they can be very useful, even if it's just having the time together as a squad!
November 17, 200816 yr Author The same trick he used in September in that case ;) I don't think we'd face Delap without Rio deliberately myself and I certainly don't think Rooney would let Fergie tell him not to play for England! Whilst I'd be inclided to agree with Rooney I'm still highly cynical. Your next two games are Villa and Man City away and I do think he would've rested players like Rio and Rooney with a game against Stoke. I know they've done well so far but the squads depth and it being at OT Fergie knew what he was doing...
November 17, 200816 yr The same trick he used in September in that case ;) I don't think we'd face Delap without Rio deliberately myself and I certainly don't think Rooney would let Fergie tell him not to play for England! I'm glad he had that operation then. :P It would be Liverpool that get made an example of. Man Utd and Chelsea players always seem to come injured (whether they be faked or not) just before friendlies. These friendlies in the middle of the season are just utterly pointless. What purpose do they serve? There's not another competitive match for 4/5 months, so why risk an injury when your manager already knows how you play? Completely ridiculous imo. Club >> Country any day of the week.
November 19, 200816 yr Arsenal's Theo Walcott could face up to three months out after dislocating his right shoulder on Tuesday. The 19-year-old, who has a hereditary shoulder problem, suffered the injury in training with England ahead of Wednesday's friendly with Germany. He is due to fly home to see a specialist on Wednesday. "Because there's a weakness, there is a strong chance he could have surgery and be out until next February," said BBC Sport's Jonathan Legard That is why there should be no international friendlies at this period during the season. :manson: :manson: If that had happened to a Liverpool player i'd be majorly pissed off.
November 19, 200816 yr That's not England's fault it's ARSENAL's fault! It was obvious that was going to happen a few weeks ago but as he's their only player nowadays they kept shoving him in the deep end so this was bound to happen. -_-
November 19, 200816 yr But still, it happened at an England training camp. :P I don't mind friendlies so much when there's a reason for them, but there is surely no reason for this one? Just f***s up players even more and make them travel halfway around the world!
November 19, 200816 yr Author The half way round the world excuse doesn't really ring true. Most friendlies take place in Europe and many between two non-European countries take place here. If a player does have to travel a long distance it generally means that's because he's from a country a long distance away. No excuse there, you know when signing a Japanese, Australian, Brazilian or South Africa they will be travelling to these countries often. It's one thing that annoyed me with Arsene Wenger when he moaned about Gilberto keep having to go to South America. FFS you've just signed someone who was in a World Cup winning squad, you can't complain when said country calls him to play in a qualifier for the next one!

I still don't really see the argument. If there is one then I, as a fan of England, should be pissed off with Chelsea, Liverpool, Wigan and Man Utd for having 8 of the first team I want to watch being injured whilst playing for them. Players will inevitably pick up injuries for their clubs causing them to miss internationals and vice versa.
November 19, 200816 yr Author There is absolutely no way that friendly was pointless. With so many names out the only 'big' name playing was Terry and we've shown that what is effectively a second string side is good enough to beat a Germany side away from which at some point included Schweinsteiger, Mertesacker, Klose, Gomez and Podolski - all players who played a part in reaching the Euro 2008 final. Terry, bar the goal which Carson was as much to blame for, was outstanding and was a great leader, especially making up for his error with a winning goal. Downing was abolute quality and probably the best game he's ever had in an England shirt, if his dead-ball quality can stay that consistant then the Beckham argument will take another knock as that's the main reason for his inclusion. Gabby's pace is astonishing and something we should definitely take as an option. Barry and Carrick were great in the centre, especially Carrick's passing, Wright-Phillips, Johnson and Bridge proved more than able back up too! In the end, a hugely pleasing result. Annoying? Maybe. Pointless? Certainly not. Edited November 19, 200816 yr by RabbitFurCoat
