SUGABABES EXPLAIN 'GREATEST HITS' DILEMMA

THE SUGABABES have officially announced that some of the old songs on their imminent "Greatest Hits" album will feature both Heidi and Amelle's vocals.

"We went into the studio today to re-record some of our past hit singles," says founding member Keisha Buchanan.

Newcomer Amelle Berrabah was devastated when she found out that she wasn't allowed to replace Buena's vocals.

"I'm not allowed to re-record Mutya's parts," Berrabah reported. "I was really annoyed, 'cos obviously I wanted to sing on all of the tracks in the Greatest Hits. The record company said that we had to get permission from Mutya first, so Keisha rang her up."

"Mutya told me that she didn't want Amelle to replace her vocals," claims Keisha. "So Mutya will be on the Greatest Hits, but the other girl won't."

The other girl? Keisha is of course referring to ex-member Siobhan Donaghy, one of the original founding members of the band.

"I've recorded all of her parts already," says Heidi, the smiley one. "The songs don't sound as good as the originals, though."

Keisha explains, "The reason that we were allowed to replace the other girl's vocals is because we didn't need her permission. Those songs were owned by our old record label, but Universal bought them. So now we can do anything we want with them."

"Everything is going so well -- Me, Heidi, Amelle, and Mutya will all be on the Greatest Hits. It's really exciting."

Too bad for the 'other girl', though.

Great to hear that Heidi accepts that the songs aren't as good!

Will be good to here the new versions and I'm glad it's explained why some songs have been re-recorded and others haven't!

That clears that up then  And it's nice of Heidi to say that her versions don't sound as good, but it's not what I want to hear. I wanted the originals for that exact reason -_-
Since Taller In More Ways 2 (the re-issue) is the only 'babes album I have I will buy the greatest hits rather than tracking down their old albums, although the origanl TIMW and Three are both in the wollies cheapy chart! Bring on the greatest hits!
GUTTED, i think amelle should have been allowed to do the other songs, she is a sugababe, mutya no longer is..miss solo career!

Aw, poor Siobananaaannnhn. (Never know how to spell it)

I might buy the Greatest Hits. I only have the Sugababes new album so I'd rather just get the GH.

It's hardly surprising Mutya said no, why would she give up such huge royalites?! Also, I think it's really bad form to re-record the old tracks. Leave them be!

I think they are scoring a massive own goal by re-recording Siobhan Donaghy's Sugababes tracks.

Why couldn't they do (what was being suggested) release The Sugababes Greatest Hits with the original versions but with a bonus CD of re-recorded versions with the present line-up.

That way both viewpoints would have been happy.

Do they get royalties for singing it?

I thought they just did for the writing part, in which case she wouldn't lose any

You get royalties for writing, and royalties for performing I think. So Mutya has a lot of money coming her way if this album does well.

argh! im confused :P

i wanted to buy this album, but i'd much rather prefer if it was all the original songs and no re-recorded ones

Me too, but they all seem intent on re-recording everything <_< In which case, it's not actually the Greatest Hits is it?
