ANOTHER Australia show added this time in the city of Adelaide. Will update the list now.
The Australia shows have been selling out in a matter of hours at some venues. :o

LOVED THE SHOW!

It was so much better this time! I was much nearer to the stage than last time, and it was just such a better experience!

One week tomorrow til the first Australian show - what's everyone expecting? Any changes? The question that should be on every Queen B fan's mind: will Britney be performing 3 on the new leg of the tour for her Aussie fans??
  • 2 weeks later...
They say attack is the best form of defence and so I should have expected the very personal attack from Britney’s tour promoter Paul Dainty in today’s Australian.

You see, I was the journalist who wrote on Friday night that fans were walking out of her concert.

``It’s the biggest lie I’ve ever heard,’’ Paul Dainty told The Oz. ``I’m so angry. We can take heat if there’s something wrong and people can review shows badly - that’s something you have to live with - but to say people stormed out of the show was an absolute fabrication.’’

Well as Britney says Mr Dainty, “Love me, Hate me, Say what you want about me”…. Just don’t call me a liar.

I personally spoke with 25 people who left, some as early as the third song, and while I was speaking to disgruntled fans, more and more people walked past.

A security guard commented he had never seen so many people walk out – he was then chastised by his boss for daring to speak his mind.

A fabrication involves making things up. How then did I get the names and phone numbers of people walking out if they weren’t any? How too did Channels 7 and 9 so easily find people to interview who also had left early?

The claim is that the media are Britney-haters, well, I’m certainly not. “Stronger” was my ringtone for a while - drove my colleagues mad.

So I was just a tad excited heading to Perth’s Burswood Dome to see Britney in action.I thought the lip-synching wouldn’t matter, just seeing the pop princess in the flesh was enough. After all, it’s Britney. But in the end, it wasn’t enough. Not by a long way.

The staging was spectacular, the dancers and acrobats incredible but in the midst of it all, there Britney was, prancing and dancing awkwardly on the stage moving her lips with nothing coming out.

She looked horrifically out of place, like she’d rather be anywhere else but on stage in front of 17,000 fans. We were led to believe the lip-synching was necessary because her dancing was so good, so rigorous, she couldn’t possibly sing. But her moves were sloppy and stiff, as well as out of time.

I know there were plenty of people who had a fantastic time on Friday night. Britney can do no wrong in their eyes.

I’d suggest many of these fans were in the general admission area which surrounded the stage, because it was incredibly hard to see her without a giant screen. Well, there was a giant screen but it didn’t show any vision of Spears, just circus-related images.

It’s not a huge leap to suggest that this was done to disguise her lip-syncing.

By not using the screens to show her in action, when she faced the other side of the stadium, you had a great view of her back. Other criticisms were that she was not on stage for long enough – her costume changes took too long and were too often, leaving the audience to be entertained by acrobats, martial arts experts and dancers.

I can’t pass judgment on the parts of the concert I didn’t see, such as the one song she did sing live “Everytime” (I was outside interviewing people who’d seen quite enough). But websites have many posts from people who did not enjoy themselves.

Fans complained there was no interaction between songs, no attempt to inject some personality into the show. The only time she spoke was to say hello to “Australia” not even Perth - couldn’t she at least have personalised that?

She then said we had a beautiful country, well, how the heck would know that from her hotel room?

Britney’s management put out a tweet asking fans whether they enjoyed themselves on Friday night. Not surprisingly, they were inundated with positive responses. Although we do know several people who wrote something negative and their posts mysteriously did not make it onto the website.

``Britney is aware of all this and she’s extremely upset by it,’’ Dainty said. ``She’s a human being. I’m embarrassed, with such a big international entourage here with Britney, to be part of the Australian media when I see that kind of totally inaccurate reporting.’‘

What about her fans who she claims to care so much about? Does she care that they’ve left upset?

To suggest we need to tread carefully in case we send Brits into a breakdown is ridiculous. If she is not up to the task mentally or physically, then she should not be doing it. People pay good money, in fact people pay exorbitant money to see her perform.

The majority of the people who left were in the $200 seats – some had also paid the $20 pre-sale fee. Who in these tough times has $200 to throw away? Particularly with Christmas around the corner and interest rates on the way back up again.

She is paid to be a performer, she has the obligation to give people a good show. If she cannot, she should not be touring.

To me, the most telling was 22-year-old Amanda Hawlett, who spent half her weekly barmaid’s wage to buy a $200 ticket.

Concerts are a huge treat for people and they have the right to expect a certain level of entertainment.

Following Pink and Beyonce who have wowed Aussies fans this year was always a big ask, but when you don’t even sing your songs, you’re not even in the same league as these mighty divas.

Like so many of the Britney fans I spoke to, I feel incredibly let down. And this time, try as I might, I just can’t defend her like I have so many other times.

I just feel bad for the thousands of Aussie fans who are enjoying the shows so far. As always, the negative is overshadowing the positive ... it'll be incredible easy for Britney to never go and tour in Oz again (not touring there til now has hardly hurt her career this far has it?). It'll save piling the stage onto a boat and setting sale for a month, it'll save a hell of a lot of time and money for her just not to tour there again. Feel so sad for all the thousands of Aussie fans who might not get the chance to see her again because of this.
i was thinking exactly the same thing, its a shame. and she isnt even able to enjoy here time here as she has been locked in her hotel room since this bad press came out, so sad. poor girl. but it was hard to follow PINK, she was massive

The Australian press seems to be negative towards so many artists, not just Britney. And I'm glad it was cleared up that no number of people worth noting actually left in the middle of ANY show.

i think the major concern was that they couldnt see her because she wasnt on the big screens, was she on them during her US tour? wonder if she performed '3'
Yes they were, and no she didn't perform '3'.

A selection of comments from the landslide majority opinion ;

I doubt she is 'extremely upset' , I doubt she even knows about it. Britney is obviously not very well. I think her recovery was just wishful thinking so she could keep on making money for other people. Sad, but I feel for her ripped off fans. - Sara, Australia, 9/11/2009 16:54

Britney is 'extremely upset' because she's 'a human being' - really ? = What a stupid thing to say. We are all human beings, including the thousands who paid large sums of money to watch her mime her songs. I am sure they are 'extremely upset' too, if I paid 800 to watch this non-event I'd be crying in my cornflakes today too. - L, Wales, 9/11/2009 16:46

I feel sorry for Brit she is such a puppet. She's little talent and less control, she had a huge mental breakdown last year and yet her strings are being pulled again.

She's always sold her stuff on the back of skimpy outfits and costume changes - but at one point she could dance and she looked fit. Now she can't dance (medication?) and she's incredibly out of shape. She should retire and get fully well.

That being said anyone buying Brit tickets must know that there not going to be seeing much talent - she never had any! - K, south yorks, 9/11/2009 21:05

I saw her in London and it was awful. Either she's not all there or she simply doesn't want to be there...either way it's not fair on people who pay the tickets! At least when she used to perform you could believe the illusion that she sang with emotion. - Fiona Cook, London, 9/11/2009 17:37

Britney - a slightly chubby, average dancer and not very good singer....simple. - Alex Lawson, Taunton Somerset.

She can't sing or dance and she looks cheap in those tacky outfits with that bleached hair that always looks like a wig. Beyonce and Shakira can dance and sing and are beautiful. - Lou, Suffolk, UK, 9/11/2009 20:30

First of all, the gir cannot sing! Second of all, whatever "drive" she had came to a complete STOP a while back. I think it is time Ms. Spears finds a new career and moves on from her previous occupation. I never thought she was really all that talented in the first place; in the beginning she was something "new" and of course, all the young girls wanted to copy her "style" - even if she couldn't sing she was able to get away with a lot. What girl wants to copy her style now - accept for her sister. These girls went in the wrong direction and yes, HollyWeird did bring it all down-hill for them and broke their family. I am glad that the power of the mighty dollar proves something here....Money cannot buy you EVERYTHING!

- Tess Poulos, Chicago,U.S., 9/11/2009 21:30

For being as young as she is, still in her mid 20s, right? she looks awful. drugs and booze have really taken their toll on her. If I was her, I'd spend a year in some calm relaxing place where she can regroup and get her looks back before I showed my face in public again. - sarah, washington dc, 9/11/2009 19:43

I guess the reason the show looked so bad was that she couldn't even make a passable attempt at synching her lip movements with the words. Of course it could just have been that she looks so haggard. - Steve, Bedford, 9/11/2009 17:09

Rather than being hurt, she should be ASHAMED. - Laura, Santa Barbara, California, 9/11/2009 17:37

You got what you deserved. You created Britney, and the rest of the con artists. - Revell Cornell, Blyth. England, 9/11/2009 17:18

She looks desperate in all of the pictures. You wonder why she goes on. OK, the money but you would think she has enough.

The performance looks as exciting as watching a wind-up doll.

People are starting to vote with their feet. - Norman, Connecticut, USA, 9/11/2009 17:49

Time to retire dear... - Ptolemy Dwyer, Lancs, 9/11/2009 20:33

If I paid to see a 'LIVE' show then that is exactly what I would expect to get, not to see some bimbo who can't mime to her own songs.

And to say she was upset.

I ask you? - RCC, Paisley, Scotland, 9/11/2009 17:49

Up to £800 per ticket? I think the fans who shelled out to see a talentless slapper mime to recordings of her songs are the ones who are entitled to be upset. Brittney should only be embarrassed some people finally objected to being the subject of a "bait-and-switch". - Dave, Basingstoke, 9/11/2009 18:23

I think it a complete insult to fans that love their idols and pay alot of money to go and see them and all they get back in gratitude is play back.Britney does it, Madonna is reknown for it,,the list is endless.

It leaves you wondering if these so called stars have any talent to begin with,,,they are just manafactured cop outs and sell outs.

Also Britney looked in these photos very unfit, fuller figured and sweating profoundly, she looked exausted. This is not the Britney of old,,the toned fit young girl that once gave great performances.Either shes completly unfit or she is burnt out at such a young age.. - Emerald, London, 9/11/2009 18:24

What a joke!!! Why oh why would anyone pay £800 for a ticket to see her?????

And to say she cant sing and dance at the same time then what the hell is she doing in that industry?!!! does that not seem odd to you guys, look at Michael Jackson...he could sing and dance because he had real talent something the poor copies cannot do.

On one hand i think fair play they walked out, on the other hand i think they deserved it...i still dont get why anyone would pay to see this useless hack...one more time!

- Kevlar, UK, 9/11/2009 22:32

she can't sing at all

she is out of shape

she WAS a good dancer

she WAS very pretty

so why would you pay such a lot of money to see that rubbish??

her voice is dreadful and her show is a lil disaster .. - Dangerously, Austria, 9/11/2009 19:03

Are you serious? So you'd pay $1500 to go and watch Britney lip synch and barely dance. These people were promised a spectacular show and apparently it has failed to deliver. I went and saw Pink and i loved her, I'd pay to see her time and time again, she CAN sing and she is a genius on stage. - emma, sydney, 9/11/2009 21:07

What are you ranting about? That report was said by pretty much everyone else to be totally false. No one walked out of her first concert.

And ANYWAYS, no one denied that she lip synced so everyone had to have known ahead of time what to expect at the concert. I mean she already did 90 shows that started in March so you must've had to be under a rock to not have known. The show is meant to greatly entertain and be an extravagant pop show, and from what I've heard/read, that's what it indeed is. Her fans are the core audience and what the concerts are aimed at so it seems she's doing a pretty good job. I think someone needs to read the recent review(s) given in Melbourne to get the big/real picture here.

REVIEW: Britney Spears in Melbourne November 11, 2009

by Paul Cashmere - November 12 2009

Lets start by getting one thing straight. Rebekah Devlin, who started what quickly developed into Britney-gate this week in Australia, clearly got it very, very wrong. At the Britney Spears show tonight at Rod Laver Arena, there were no mass walk-outs, there were no disgruntled fans and the audience was genuinely entertained.

Just for the record, I am not a Britney fan but ‘Circus’ is a very good show. Forget the “but she mimes” argument. It is irrelevant for Britney. She is a popstar. She has never pretended to be a serious musical act like Radiohead. She is what she is and has never denied it.

Keep in mind at parts of their shows, Cher has lip-synched, Madonna lip-synchs, even Roger Waters did it. So lets just eliminate that from the scorecard and score the Britney show for what it is … a very entertaining show aimed at her core fans.

If you are a Britney fan, you are going to love ‘Circus’. It is over two hours of escapism and yes it is a real circus. Actually, if Ms. Devlin focused on the freak show featuring the midget or an amputee on a trampoline she might have been able to beat-up a better story. Did she even notice that? Not that it mattered. It was visually compelling.

Yes, a Circus it truly is, with magicians, acrobats, a tightrope and … was that Perez Hilton dressed up as The Queen?

The costume changes are covered up with musical segways. One featured Marilyn Manson ‘Sweet Dreams’ and another Michael Jackson ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Something’.

Lets give a special shout-out to the two kids in the front row. Britney’s children Sean and Jayden watched what Mom did for a living with Mom’s new beau Jason Trawick . For the record Ms Devlin, Jayden left earlier so your headline tomorrow should read “Even Britney’s Kid Can’t Stand Her”. Sean left before the encore, so you can beat that up into a headline as well.

In Vegas, this show would be up for “show of the year”. In Perth, based on a one-woman jury, it doesn’t rate at all. Melbourne, the home of Australian theatre, accepted another good show.

Britney is more than 90 shows into a world tour with Circus. How funny that Ms Devlin wasted her 15 minutes of fame on something that has never pretended to be anything more than a pop show.
