Posted November 25, 200816 yr Albarn confirms Blur studio reunion Tuesday, November 25 2008, 17:52 GMT Digitalspy.com By Alex Fletcher, Entertainment Reporter Damon Albarn has confirmed that Blur will work together in the studio in 2009. Albarn hinted that a reunion may be on the cards earlier this month when he revealed that he had been "hanging out" with guitarist Graham Coxon. When asked about the rumours, the frontman told the BBC: "Blur are certainly going to rehearse and see if we sound like we used to." The singer was speaking at a performance of his opera Monkey: Journey To The West at London's BBC Radio Theatre. Blur recorded seven studio albums and scored two number one singles during their 14-year career. Coxon left Blur in 2002 to pursue a solo career. The rest of the group - Albarn, Alex James and Dave Rowntree - went on to record one further album, 2003's Think Tank. So what do you think of this news then?
November 29, 200816 yr I don't understand why there's a LOL at the top of this thread? I'm quite excited by the thought, but they will never be as good as they were (like Oasis haven't been very good since the 90s.)

December 9, 200816 yr Blur to reunite for Hyde Park concert Source: MW Tuesday December 9, 2008 Live Nation today announced that Blur are to reunite for a live show in Hyde Park next summer. The band have not performed on stage together since an appearance at Royal Festival Hall back in 2000, but members of the quartet were recently pictured together at the premier of Damon Albarn’s Monkey Journey To The West. Music Week understands that all four – Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree met last week to sign contracts for the July 3 London show, which will be a Live Nation and Metropolis Music presentation, in association with CMO and X-ray Touring. The band are also rumoured to be headlining Glastonbury Festival, but at press time that speculation could not be confirmed. 2009 will mark the 20th anniversary since Blur’s formed in their native Colchester back in 1989. The band went on to record seven studio albums and had a string of Top 10 singles including number 1 hits with Country House and Beetlebum. Their last album, Think Tank, was released in 2003.

December 9, 200816 yr Author 12:20 GMT, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 Blur confirm summer reunion gig BBC Entertainment News It will be the first time the band have performed together since 2000 Blur are reforming to play a huge live show in London's Hyde Park next summer - nine years after their last concert as a four-piece band. Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree will reunite for the concert on 3 July. It will be the first time the band have played in public since performing at London's Royal Festival Hall in 2000, before Coxon left the group in 2002. Tickets for the gig, which will cost £45, go on sale at 0900 GMT on Friday. "It just felt it was right again," Albarn told music weekly NME. "It somehow feels like there's something for us to do again, we're not completely useless or pointless, we've got a reason to exist." Coxon told the magazine the band were "making public what's been going on a little bit privately". The announcement has fuelled speculation that the band will also play at next year's Glastonbury Festival, which falls a week before the Hyde Park gig. But a Glastonbury spokesman said fans should not buy tickets based on unconfirmed reports. "We are talking to headliners at the moment," he told BBC News. "There is lots of speculation about who might or might not be playing next year. We're confident it will be as good as Jay-Z. No headliners have been confirmed." Last month, Albarn told BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat it was "very possible" he would go back to Blur. The singer confirmed the band members had been meeting up and bassist James had also hinted at a reunion. Formed in 1989, Blur have recorded seven studio albums and had a string of UK top 10 singles, including number one hits with Country House and Beetlebum. Their last album, Think Tank, was released in 2003. Since then, Albarn, 40, has been best known for his Gorillaz pop project with cartoonist Jamie Hewlett. More recently, the pair have collaborated on Monkey: Journey to the West, a Chinese opera that is running at London's O2 until January and will then tour the world. Guitarist Coxon, 39, developed his solo career while James, 40, became a writer and now makes cheese on a farm in Oxfordshire. Drummer Dave Rowntree, 44, was recently selected by the Labour Party to be its candidate for the Cities of London and Westminster at the next general election.
December 9, 200816 yr Author 11:44 GMT, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 Why Graham is at the heart of Blur By Julian Marshall BBC Newsbeat Online Editor http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/45281000/jpg/_45281241_blur_466.jpg There are four people in the popular rock band Blur. It might sound like a simple enough statement. But with the announcement the original quartet - Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree - will reunite next summer to play a gig at London's Hyde Park, it exhibits just how important each individual piece of the whole Blur puzzle really is. Truth is, despite the fact Blur are 'reforming' to play this show, they never really split up. Graham Coxon departed in a storm during the sessions for Blur's last studio album, 2003's Think Tank. That record, a mishmash of ideas and exotic influences, partly recorded in Morocco and partly produced by Fatboy Slim, saw the band's relations at breaking point. Ten years in the limelight, a creative battle between the members and the inevitable hangover from Britpop had finally taken its toll. Think Tank was completed without Graham and released to positive reviews. But, looking back at that record now, there is a sense of missed opportunity. The songs which have aged well, like album closer Battery In Your Leg, were one of only a handful which featured Coxon's signature guitar. Those which have aged badly, like the Fatboy Slim produced Crazy Beat, sound like novelty hits. With the key component of Coxon absent, Blur continued playing live dates to support the record, before fizzing out. For those who had seen the group at their mid 90s peak it was obvious, without Coxon, they didn't function as well at all. In contrast to the ever evolving line-up of mid 90s rivals Oasis, Blur at their best are the chemical explosion when four very different personalities, childhood friends in fact, lock horns. But for years it looked like it would never happen again. Coxon went off and made some excellent solo records which, at their best, sounded like Blur with all the edges torn off. Bassist Alex James turned lecturer, TV music pundit, author and cheese maker and generally looked a bit like a stoat. Drummer Dave Rowntree went into politics, flew planes and got heavily involved in a mission to land a spacecraft on Mars. Damon Albarn, well, you probably know what he's been up to. Those four individuals together make insane music which, as the more indulgent moments on Think Tank prove, need Graham Coxon's punk attitude and (you suspect) ability to stand up to Damon, to fully shine. Once again, there are four people in Blur. And that is reason for a bit of early Christmas cheer.
December 9, 200816 yr Author Great to hear Damon & Graham together again. Very interesting to hear that they hinted very heavily about doing a tour before the said Hyde Park gig in 2009.
December 9, 200816 yr Blur will play their first live show with the seminal line-up in nearly ten years at Hyde Park next summer, it has been announced. Rumours have surrounded the band in recent weeks, following claims that Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon were back on speaking terms. Today they confirmed plans to play a show in London in July, amid reports that they will also appear at the Glastonbury Festival the month before. Tickets for the gig, which takes place on July 3, go on-sale on Friday, December 12.
