Singer Heidi Range, 25, is one third of girl group Sugababes. She replaced original member Siobhán Donaghy in 2001 amid one of the group's legendary line-up changes. She has since sung on hits including Freak Like Me, Push The Button and current single Girls. The Sugababes judge the Hugo Urban Rules talent show in London on Wednesday.

Have you entered any talent shows yourself?

Yes, I did loads when I was younger. I won holidays, I won a TV, I won £100. I entered an annual dance competition at a holiday camp with my school. We’d normally get into the finals. I also sang in a talent show with Gareth Gates. I came first and he came second.

Have you met him since?

Yes, loads of times. I hadn’t realised it was him in the competition until his dad told me. He’s fine about it.

If you hadn’t got into the Sugababes would you have wanted to do The X Factor?

Maybe but I’d been going to auditions and sending demos off since I was 14. I’d buy The Stage every Thursday and look through all the auditions.

What was the worst thing anyone said to you at an audition?

No one ever said anything nasty, I always got good feedback even when I didn’t get the job. I went to one audition when I was 14 and pretended I was 16 but they found out and told me I was too young. I went home crying but they said they’d keep my details, which amazingly they did, and they asked me to audition for something else when I was 16.

What was that for?

Scooch. I recorded with the same producers, Mike Stock and Matt Aitken, later as a solo artist.

So you could have been in Scooch as well as Atomic Kitten before you joined Sugababes?

Yes. I’ve been round a few times. I’m glad things turned out the way they have.

No one’s left the band for a while. Who’s next to go?

None of us is planning to go anywhere. We’re all really happy and enjoying it. As long as that’s the case we’ll stay together.

You’ve sold more records than Girls Aloud yet they seem more popular. Why is that?

They’ve got a bigger public profile than we have. They’re always in all the celebrity magazines. We don’t have a problem with them at all, we all get on really well together. We’re just two different acts.

What’s been your worst gig?

One in Moscow a few years ago. It was in a huge theatre but there were only 20 people in the audience and they didn’t seem to know who we were. It was a corporate gig but it all seemed a bit strange. Corporate gigs are usually fun, it’s normally for a Christmas party and everyone’s a bit messy because the drinks are free.

Are you big in any weird countries you wouldn’t expect?

We did a gig in Macedonia a couple of months ago. They closed down the town centre, the mayor was there and thousands of people turned up. I didn’t even realise they’d heard of us, so to have that sort of reaction was brilliant.

What’s the best thing you’ve blagged for free?

We get sent some nice clothes but we usually have to send them back. And we’ve just had a year’s free contract for our phones.

Don’t you promote shoes in Poland?

We endorse a range of shoes for a German company called Deichmann. They’re quite big round Europe.

Do you actually wear them?

Yeah, we do. Honestly.

Have you been approached to advertise anything unsuitable?

I’m not into endorsing perfumes – I don’t get why you’d want to smell like a particular celebrity. We’d love to do a make-up range, though.

Who is the rudest celebrity you’ve met?

Michael Winner. It was in Barbados. He asked for me and my boyfriend’s [TV presenter Dave Berry] sunloungers to be moved because they were facing in his direction. The hotel put the sunloungers in the same place every day but one day they were moved and they said: ‘Mr Winner didn’t like you looking at him.’ To be honest I wasn’t looking at him, I was looking at my boyfriend.

A nice read especially given that you don't normally hear much from Heidi. Interesting about the audition for Scooch and about Michael Winner (tit) and good to see her set the record straight on the 'Babes opinion of GA.

This should shut a few people up.

GA = Bigger Public Profile

Suga's = Bigger Total Sales.

Now can we all forget this pathetic who's bigger than who thing, as to be quite frank it just depends which aspect your looking at as to the answer.

And if one of you brings up ooc vs C&S i will edit the $h!t out of the post, there will be no arguments in here thank you very much

And that goes for Suga fans as much as the GA fans

It's not Girls Aloud that have the bigger public image it's just Cheryl! It's good the Sugababes don't have a massive public image otherwise I wouldn't be able to buy tickets for their tours at the las minute lol

Never mind about who's the biggest, it doesnt matter in the lon run since they're both sucsessful in their own way.

Anyway, nice to hear from Heidi, she di say quite a few interesting bits and pieces

This GA VS sugababes thing got boring like years ago <_<

If anyone cares, i'm jealous that they lead a life where they dont have more important things to worry about coz i know i do.

They are two different acts - end of.

Yeah GA and Sugababes are just the same brand. I mean people dont constantly go on about Westlife V Take That (etc...). Either way i do love a good natter about who's better but only when its provoked and called for, and this frankly isnt the time or place!
