I don't remember Tom going missing tbh, but I think this one with Holly is supposed to be a bigger, longer-running plot. Stephanie Waring is indeed the star of the show at present.

Big Hollyoaks news:

New Hollyoaks boss Paul Marquess has culled another 11 cast members as part of the Channel 4 soap's mass shakeup, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.

A month after his arrival, Marquess took his axe to Josh, Suzanne and Neville Ashworth - played by Sonny Flood, Suzanne Hall and Jim Millea respectively - and subsequently replaced three of the serial's leading producers in a bid to streamline the creative team.

In the coming weeks and months, a further 11 characters will be phased out, bringing the current departure total to 16.

Those on the chopping block include the entire Valentine clan - Sasha (Nathalie Emmanuelle), Lauren (Dominique Jackson) and Leo (Brian Bovell) - while Calvin (Ricky Whittle) will be written out towards the end of May at the climax of the ongoing 'Who Shot Calvin?' 'flashforward' storyline.

Kent Riley will exit for pastures new after a decade playing student Zak Ramsay, while Warren Fox's foster brother Spencer Gray will also depart the teen soap at the end of actor Darren Langford's current deal.

Kevin Sacre and Melissa Walton - who play screen lovers Jake Dean and Loretta Jones - will further bow out of the programme at the close of their ongoing story arc.

Nico Mirallegro's character Barry 'Newt' Newton, meanwhile, leaves the village later in the year and relative show newcomers Dave Colburn (Elliot James Langridge) and Des Townsend (Kris Deedigan) will also be written out.

Gerard McCarthy, who plays bisexual cross-dresser Kris Fisher, recently indicated to bosses that he wanted to move on of his own accord, as he prepares to embark on a West End stint in the Arlene Phillips-choreographed Flashdance - The Musical.

The McQueen clan, however, remain untouched. Stephanie Waring - superbitch Cindy Hutchinson - signed an 18-month contract in September, taking her through to March next year.

Belfast-born Marquess is renowned for his cut-throat decisions to cull sets of characters from the shows he helms. In 2002, he took control of ITV police drama The Bill and almost immediately cut six regulars. A year later, he went on to revamp Five's Family Affairs, before it was axed in 2005.

Over the years, Marquess has also produced Brookside, Footballers' Wives and Bill spinoff M.I.T.: Murder Investigation Team.

I dont watch HO but wow at that. When I heard Marquess was taking over I expected a few changes given his record but 11 is a big number!

Good on him though, I like when someone new comes in and has balls to make changes - especially when needed [according to people who watch HO ;)]

Tbh, none of them are a huge loss and alot of them are much overdue - Sasha & Lauren especially have always been pretty useless imo. Never saw the fuss with Newt either tbh ... his storylines really just annoyed me.

Glad to see all the McQueen's will still be there as well as Cindy and Steph too. :D

Sasha's axing was overdue given the actress has made a hash out of all the big plots she's been given the past couple of years.

I could think of better candidates for axing than Zak and Kris though - I'm assuming this means Elliott, Theresa and Archie are still safe then

ARCHIE HAS BEEN AXED! REJOICE.

Theresa is staying- It says in the article that all the McQueens are staying and there is big plans for them.

It's a bit strange that they are getting rid of Zak though- I REALLY like his relationship with Michaela.

Unpinned. This thread really isn't popular anymore so there's no justification as to why it should be pinned.

A symptom of the nosedive in Hollyoaks' popularity.

According to Digital Spy, there are genuine fears of the show being axed.

I have to admit I just can't be arsed with it anymore. I know it's always been essentially a teen soap, but until recently it was a GOOD teen soap, and at it's best can be just as good if not better than EE, Corrie and all.

But recently it's just DRAGGED. Half the characters are bland or just plain awful, and there is a lack of a proper blockbuster storyline. I know things will probably pick up as we approach

Calvin's death.

But I'm sure it will sink back again into it's slumber afterward.

Yeah I don't really make the effort to watch it anymore. A couple of years back it was brilliant, especially when John Paul, Craig and Sarah where still there. The last time it has been really interesting is with Sarah's death and Lydia being a psycho bitch imo.
BRING BACK BRYAN KIRKWOOD. Im sorry but it seems like when he does something with Hollyoaks it can be more than good. Look at Hollyoaks Later with Sarah's death... And the McDean storyline. Werent they all under his reign? The producer who came after him turned it into UTTER $h!tE. Only to jump ship a year later. -_-

Hurray for producers giving Theresa a credible storyline... Boo for ridiculousness of the father...
$h!t why did I have to read that spoiler
I've been watching for most of wedding week for the first time probably in five years and I quite enjoyed it! Some real crap in terms of the music and THAT AWFUL VOICEOVER from the terrible Calvin but I DO like the McQueens, especially QUEEN JACQUI MCQUEEN who I intend to model myself on from now on.

The McQueens are fine, and one of the show's few saving graces right now. With the exception of Theresa, who I find awkward and I don't really rate Jorgie Porter as a particularly good actress. Unfortunately the powers that be seem to have decided she's the next big thing - this week more than ever has highlighted that they see her as being their own Stacey Slater.

Jacqui however is indeed marvellous, and although I dislike her character, Mercedes is played pretty well.

I, on the other hand, LOVE Theresa and all the McQueens, probably the greatest Hollyoaks family ever! Would never have suspected her but loved that last episode!
I'd agree on the McQueens being the best Hollyoaks family although I really dislike 2 members. Carmel and Theresa.
I dunno how anyone can doubt Jorgie Porter's acting ability after this week, she's been incredible.
Are you for real? She's hardly been in it for starters, which is probably because they realise she's not strong enough to carry the aftermath to a murder, whereas Jacqui, Mercy and Carmel are. But the little we have seen of her has hardly been very impressive - just that rabbit-in-the-headlights fixed expression.
