Posted December 2, 200816 yr Has anybody caught Underbelly that Aussie crime drama starring Vince Colosimo from the Wog Boy, The Secret Life of Us and Body of Lies (and now also Sally Fletcher from Home & Away!!! Kate Ritchie) thats about the mid 90s gangland war in Melbourne and which has been causing all sorts of fuss in Victoria???
December 6, 200816 yr Yeah, it actually got pulled from being aired didn't it, because it may have prejudiced a court case..... I downloaded some episodes of it... Really pretty superb stuff actually... An Aussie version of The Sopranos is how some lazy critics will describe it, but I reckon it's deeper than that in some ways, and more tough and gritty.... The Sopranos is obviously fiction whereas Underbelly is based upon actual facts, so there is a bit more meat to it....

Eventually they ruled to put it back on air. It's not a bad show, is actually a good representation of gangland Melbourne
December 7, 200816 yr It's not a bad show, is actually a good representation of gangland Melbourne Yeah, that's what people say about it... Obviously I dont know the facts of the Melbourne underworld, but it does seem to follow the same line of gritty realism that "The Wire" does, so that's the way I look at it, it's convincing, it seems an accurate portrayal... The Wire is one of the greatest drama serials I have ever seen in my life, "Underbelly" looks as though it can follow in that sort of line.... God, when did Aussie telly get this good, or is this a freak occurence...? Anything else you lot 'down under' can recommend to me that follows in a similar vein to this...? I really like shows that take me deep into a story and character and a situation - The Wire, Underbelly, Dexter, Mad Men, Oz.... Anything else like this from Australia...?
January 13, 200916 yr Has anybody caught Underbelly that Aussie crime drama starring Vince Colosimo from the Wog Boy, The Secret Life of Us and Body of Lies (and now also Sally Fletcher from Home & Away!!! Kate Ritchie) thats about the mid 90s gangland war in Melbourne and which has been causing all sorts of fuss in Victoria??? haha i have it on dvd (i got a mate to send it to me, coz i live in Victoria haha! coz they cant sell the dvd here, as there is a case that could be prejudiced, well cases, surrounding tony mokbel, a drug kingpin) Kate Ritchies in Underbelly 2: A Tale of Two Cities, which airs here in Feb the ads on Channel 9 have been saying, but there wont be any dramas surrounding that, coz it all happened in the 70's and 80's, and all the court cases are over and closed. the first is set between about 1995 and 2005 i think the timeline is... It got pulled from Victoria but the rest of Oz could watch it. Eventually they ruled to put it back on air. It's not a bad show, is actually a good representation of gangland Melbourne mmmm they did, but onyl the 1st 5 episodes, and heavily edited! coz i got the dvd sent from New South Wales, so like ALOT of people in Victoria, i had seen it before it hit the screens, and yeah, heavily edited for Victoria due to the courtcase! Yeah, that's what people say about it... Obviously I dont know the facts of the Melbourne underworld, but it does seem to follow the same line of gritty realism that "The Wire" does, so that's the way I look at it, it's convincing, it seems an accurate portrayal... October 11, 200915 yr What do you think about this series ? I kind of liked it. Of course not as good as anything from HBO, and with the women in it being some saxon-celt-convict mix, they are not really pleasing to the eye. But all in all a pretty decent series.
January 12, 201015 yr Underbelly is set to hit Sky/Virgin channel FX soon and for once, STV are doing something worthwhile. STV are to show Underbelly this year :w00t: Makes being subjected to Jackie Bird almost worthwhile ^_^
