I wouldn't call it a bad contest at all...just too many bad songs in the final compared to previous editions where I liked 95% of the songs e.g. BJSCX

 

I never even get close to liking 95% of the songs. ;o So, this one is pretty normal for me. BJSCVIII had the best quality of any of the contests imo.

most people see that as the most 'forgettable' contest...I don't find it forgettable as I hosted it so know all of the songs back to front!

It's not that it's forgettable contest as such. I just think it's because the winner wasn't that convincing and I was aware of quite a few of the songs beforehand. Little Jackie, Ladyhawke, Alphabeat, Gabriella Cilmi, The 411, Kate Nash, KT Tunstall, Gwen Stefani and Mutya Buena all had songs I knew of or about. The first three I mentioned were still fresh to me, but I don't find them to be exciting entries, looking back. I think it's a case of all the well known artists making it look a bit disappointing. I still remember most of the songs, it's part of the reason I don't rate the contest that highly.

and for once the well known acts completely dwarfed the success of the unknown acts who floundered at the bottom of the scoreboard in VIII

 

Lily, Little Jackie, Ladyhawke and Tata Young only had a few points separating them in the end...Botannika's late and void votes would have changed the winner but you don't send your votes while the live final is running, as he could well have been influenced by which songs were doing well and badly...

BJSC VIII definitely was the worst of the post-Untouched contests, if only for the rampant cheapness and awareness of most of the entries prior to it starting, and now because the best discoveries have all been hits :(

and the undeserved flop of Thermostatic :cry: one of my songs of the summer but definitely my most forgotten entry :o at least Rontvia's DNQ entries are well remembered

I agree. And I won it with Lily (Although I still think that is the best song she has ever done). But it was Nonsuch's 2nd ever competition and I wanted to make an impact so I jumped on the song within 12 hours of it being posted on the net.

 

I'm far more prouder of using Cyndi Lauper & Suzie McNeil as they were way more unknown/obscurer.

 

In retrospect I wish I went with Ladyhawke - Paris Is Burning for BJSC VIII. I guess I'm destined never to use Pip, as My Delirium was going to be Nonsuch's entry for this competition, but then Radio 1 & Music Channels had to pick up on it far more than her previous efforts, and with it being her most successful single on iTunes I had to ditch it because it had become too cheap.

 

 

Kopečka have voted! :cheer: Was VERY close for my final ten, I'm very sad that my 11th placed song couldn't get any points. Apart from the awfulness at the bottom, the quality of the good songs in the contest is VERY high IMO :wub:

it really isn't that bad, I'm listening through now and I already have a load of 9's, 9.5's and a 10...but it could have been a vintage or even damn near perfect final had about four songs that crashed out in the semis made it in place of four others

Ojnoj have nearly voted! I must agree with what's been put though. The standard is much better than thought! There's alot more variety in this one. But like Rich said a few songs deserved the places alot more than a few others did that made it :( But very good contest overall!
