Posted December 9, 200816 yr Britney in Trouble with PETA -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Monday, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals attacked Britney Spears for using captive elephants in her new music video "Circus." In a statment, a rep for PETA writes: "As Britney is such a victim of the paparazzi and always complaining and crying about how she hates to be held up in her guarded house and can't feel free, she of all people should be able to relate to the horror that captive animals go through when they're used for entertainment. Except when Britney chooses to perform, and the lifestyle just comes with it. Animals are ripped away from their mothers at a young age, kept in chaines and prodded with electric shock devices to make them perform." No word yet from Britney's camp. The singer has used live animals before in her performances. When she performed her song "I'm a Slave For You" at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2001, the singer danced with a giant boa constrictor around her neck.
December 9, 200816 yr I was worried that this would happen, when I saw elephants being used it did make me feel a bit sad as I don't agree with that part.
December 9, 200816 yr Oh whatever! It's not like she had then in a cage and was setting them on fire. Unless there is any proof of animals being misused, abused or hurt, this is get another case of PETA making a tit out of a nipple when it is unnecessary, and riding on a celebrities fame to bring prevelance to their cause.
December 9, 200816 yr Was always going to happen really. I really dont approve of animals being treated in this way and i really wish they hadn't used them in the video.
December 9, 200816 yr I really dont approve of animals being treated in this way 'treated' in what way?! They're just stood there!
December 9, 200816 yr Animals are ripped away from their mothers at a young age, kept in chaines and prodded with electric shock devices to make them perform :o I hope they weren't treated in that way :( Surely Britney wouldn't let anything like that happen  :(
December 9, 200816 yr Yes, but they are still part of a circus and being made to stand there against their own will.
December 10, 200816 yr The video wasn't an ACTUAL circus so I don't see why they are attacking Britney's video. They probably just stood there and weren't hurt during filming. Whereas, they probably are a part of an actual circus that has NOTHING to do with Britney.
December 10, 200816 yr Jesus, just because that happens in some Circuses (probably like, a percent), it doesn't mean it happened, in any capacity in the shooting of this video. Some folks is pathetic. If the video showed Britney tearing a newborn lion cub out of it's mother, chaining it up and whipping it and electrocuting it, then they have a point. As it is, there is no reason, at all, why this issue should even be being discussed - the video in no use condones violence or abuse towards animals, and I'm a million percent sure the animals used in the video were treated with respect and were safe. As I said in my other post, this is clearly PETA making an issue out of NOTHING (i.e. no substantial evidence or reasonable claims) with a prominent figure, simply to get their issues into the mass media. I'm even hearing "they were made to stand, under a hot light!" ... standing?! God forbid! They could be so busy doing other things! And, they live in effing Africa, do they not think it's hot in their natural habitat?!
December 10, 200816 yr PETA IS A f***ING JOKE. If they would spend the millions of dollars donated to their cause to actually help animals it would be one thing. But they spend all of their money petitioning against celebrities and using scare tactics. If you want people to take you f***ing seriously don't throw red paint on people, and do something besides just b**ch. Why don't they do anything to petition Circus' that take place all over the world, many where I can ASSURE you the animals are treated worse then on a high profile music video...in fact many animals that are used in videos like this are more pampered then the average human being. This is taking mere cheap shots to gain publicity and it will help nothing.
December 10, 200816 yr I'm not saying I like PETA, but they do do not a lot of work which doesn't involve feeding of the fame of celebrities, like I feel bad for Britney because although I don't agree with it I still think she wouldn't let anything nasty go on and such. Then again Pink had an elephant in one of her videos, so yeah and she is a huge PETA supporter. It's like what you have said, it's not like she has tortured them or anything. Peta are quite crazy though.
December 10, 200816 yr Look, im not PETA's biggest supporters. I highly dissaprove of a lot of things they tend to do and a few of their campaigns aswell but did Britney's management really need to put animals in this video, they answer is no. Plenty of circuses dont use animals so i was just dissapointed to see Britney's video featured them.

I keep watching the 'Circus' vid and I SWEAR the Lions are computer generated
December 10, 200816 yr Britney Spears - Elephant Trainers Respond To PETA's Criticism -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Britney's Team Hits Back The owners of elephants Britney Spears used in her new 'Circus' video, have hit back at criticism from animal rights group PETA - who slammed the pop star's latest promo yesterday. Now trainers Gari and Kari Johnson (from California company Have Trunk Will Travel), who looked after the animals during the filming, have responded to PETA's comments. "The American Humane Association monitors animal action in film and television," Kari tells MTV. "A representative was on the set of the Britney Spears Circus video with our elephants, Tai and Kitty, to ensure their safety and welfare." "Britney, the director, producers and the entire crew were respectful of the elephants' needs and comfort and a pleasure to work with." Source:angryape.com
December 10, 200816 yr Why didn't you mention that before this report came out? TBH! I keep watching the 'Circus' vid and I SWEAR the Lions are computer generated  And yeah the lions weren't even on set the same time as Britney...that was all done with computers :P
December 10, 200816 yr Yeah, the full response from the trainers is available on MTV's website. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1600992/2...s_britney.jhtml Edited December 10, 200816 yr by Music Maniac
