Yet another Horror classic gets a reboot. This time its Jason. The film is directed by Marcus Nipel who also directed the Texas remake. Written by the same people who wrote Freddy vs Jason (Damian Shannon and Mark Swift). I didnt see Freddy vs Jason cos i wasnt bothered to waste my time on trash so i cant comment on writing abilities nor with the directing.

Plot synopsis released by Paramount and New Line:

Searching for his missing sister, Clay heads up to the eerie woods of legendary Crystal Lake where he stumbles on the creaky remains of rotting old cabins that lie in wait behind moss-covered trees. And that's not the only thing hiding under the brush. Against the advice of police and cautions from the locals, Clay pursues what few leads he has with the help of a young woman he meets among a group of college kids up for an all-thrills weekend. But they are about to find much more than they bargained for. Little do they know, they've entered the domain of one of the most terrifying specters in American film history - the infamous killer who haunts Crystal Lake armed with a razor-sharp machete...Jason Voorhees.

As much as i tend to dislike remakes, i will honestly give this film a try. But i dont see it reviving the series and will probably end up being a one off like Rob Zombie's Halloween remake...

This doesn't come as much of a surprise.
So, it appears that 2009 is to basically take up from where 2008 and 2007...and 2006.....5..4.....3, etc, etc, left off.... ie, MORE substandard, pishy Horror remakes.... Oh, and another one of the production line HACKS to do the directing chores for one - Marcus Nipple, oh, sorry, NISPEL innit... Well, you can forgive my mistake, he DID make an utter t*ts up of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.....
I actually enjoyed the new remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, as I found the original Very boring and disappointing, the first time I saw it! Not sure about this though!

Hahahahahaha sameeee!

I only got the first one because everyone on here (well like, 2 people) were all "SEE THE FIRST, IT IS EQUIVALENT 2 SEXYTYMZ".

But....it's really not.

But I'm too YouTube to know about films anyway.

Pretty obvious to me that you young 'uns dont appreciate the grungy 70s Horror at all, preferring the completely sanitised, safe, commodified type of "horror" that's about as scary as a bowl of custard...... Or this "torture porn" cr@p that replaces the actual horror with a load of semi-clad girls being saditically tortured in a highly sexualised manner for the amusement of the misoginists behind the camera and in the audience....

I think you guys dont "get" the original because it has an uneven tone to it, one minute being quite amusing and quirky, and the next just plunging you head first into sheer horror...

Im pretty sure i dont fall into that category :P

I LOVE old style horrors like The Shining, Psycho, Halloween, The Strangers

Hostel was pure utter $h!tE.

Oh and fans of the remake of Halloween can look forward to Halloween 2 <_< Or as they are calling it, H2.

^ Same@some of that. I've just never "got it (?)" with the old TCM :[, as much as I'd love to.

I think I could be quite bias with my SHEER and passionate hatred for the guy in the wheelchair

and the main girl though; just thinking about them annoys me haha.

Btw Joao, do you know if Rob Zombie's directing the next Halloween? :s

I really didn't mind his version though. What winds me up though, is when I watch it

with someone and they're like, "WELL, THAT'S NOT HOW THE ORIGINAL WENT", but it wasn't

meant to be an ACTUAL remake was it? :S Just how RZ thought it should've been done...?...IONO.

Oh, come on, Franklin's kinda funny.....

And also, Leatherface's family are pretty bizarre, fukked-up people but there's also this strange sense of humour that they display as well (the bit with the "father" shouting "Look what your brother did to the door.." is bloody HILARIOUS, I mean, never mind the fact that he's bashed peoples' skulls in, impaled them on meathooks, chainsawed people, the important thing's the door innit... ?  ). That sort of strange sense of surrealness, atmosphere and humour to act as a counterweight to the horror is totally absent from the remake, and I feel it is totally to the detriment of the tone of the story.....

Yes he is. Its down for a late august release.

I'm looking forward to watch this, I really liked the original so I hope it's a good remake. I'm probably going to book tickets for the actual Friday the 13th, it would be so cool going to see it on that day!

Jared Padalecki is another one who's gonna get stuck in the "horror film actor" rut just like fellow Supernatural dude Jensen Ackles.....

If I'm being absolutely honest, Friday the 13th is probably one that could benefit from a reboot, the original films dont really have the same "classic" feel as Halloween or the original TCM, they just look now like naff "slasher" films.... Only, it shouldn't have been "rebooted" by the meatheads who did Texas Chainsaw Massacre..... I'd've liked to have seen what a Rob Zombie, Jaume Balaguero/Paco Plaza (the guys who made the quite astounding "Rec") or a Guillermo del Toro "Friday the 13th" would be like.....

After all, they got a pretty credible Euro director (Alexandre Aja) to do "The Hills Have Eyes", and it was a pretty decent job, for about the first hour or so, then it just goes a bit TOO far with the CG and prosthetic effects.....

Well to be fair to both Jensen and Jared they both star in a horror/fantasy TV show so it's to no suprise that they're being offered all these roles. I think it's OK for them to do it while they're still on Supernatural, but I hope they both try something different once Supernatural has finished as again both have come on leaps and bounds in terms of acting since the show started.

The only thing I don't like about the Friday 13th remake is they're putting the first 3 films into basically 1 film? Kind of defeats the object from the original film. I think it looks alright from the trailer tbh. I hope it's good, I want it to be good, but I just can't help but feel that the scripting will be a let down.

Sounds a bit weird tbh.... So, does this mean that we're not going to have Mrs Voorhees, or that there will be Mrs Voorhees and she'll just be offing some of the students or maybe about the first half-hour or so, then Jason takes over proper......?

If that happens, it's gonna be a pretty muddled kind of film....

I'm not entirely sure. But the core of the story will focus on Jason, and not his mother. I get the impression they're going to tell a lot of Jason's origins through flashbacks too.

But as i've ready, the writers and producers aren't really re-making the Friday the 13th series, they're more re-creating it. Sounds weird and messed up, but i'll see the film before slagging it off.
