I disagree. I doubt Alex could ever interpret a song and completely "make it her own" like Leona did with Run.

Well IMO she made Hallelujah her own. I guess thats part of the reason people hate her version.

But what im saying is, if Leona was ever to start singing and dancing to Toxic by Britney, that would be car crash TV at its worse.

And go Alex. Very impressive.

i hate her because shes nothing more then an overhyped karaoke contest winner and does NOT deserve to be hyped into the #1 spot by the idiotic brain dead public.

question..... would she have made #1 if she had recorded and released this track by herself?.... NO. it wouldnt have been a hit, shes tried and failed to get a recording deal, proving that this rubbish tv circus can get any old rubbish undeserved recognition.

its bollox like this that has been the ruination of the uk charts over the last 20 years.

100% spot on.

Face facts, she only won the fiX Factor because her mum is a long time friend of Sinitta's & Alexandra was part of the London Community Gospel Choir who performed on stage on last year's X-Factor final on Leon Jackson's When You Believe (as revealed by News Of The World's Ian Hyland back early in September 2008).

Back in the 1980s Pete Waterman tried and failed to revive the Opportunity Knocks style talent format via his Hitman & Her show but it failed, due to the utter cynicism of the Great British Public. Similarly Milli Vanilli's career was over as soon as the two models who fronted the duo were outed for not singing a note on the tracks.

Fast Forward to 2008 and the British Public could not give two $h!ts if the same thing occurred today (despite Louis Theroux's & Charlie Brooker's excellent examination of the X-Factor programme & especially the way Simon Cowell uses his PR Max Clifford to such a strong affect by planting negative stories in the newspapers (this year the stories to knock out the favourites Laura & Diana; whilst the much worse scandal of Alexandra's relationship with a married man which ended the marriage was buried along with her "ringer" background)) to ensure he gets the results he wants; the way the TV camera always goes to Simon Cowell whilst an act is performing to show his facial expression; the order in which acts are asked to perform on the show; etc, because the Great British Public are now gullible brain dead zombies.

As for her vocals on Xmas TOTP I was sat with my family of 9 of us, and all of us thought how poor Alexandra was vocally compared to the majority of performers on the show, especially compared to the stunning live vocals by Leona Lewis it was cringeworthy to think Alexandra is supposedly the best new singer Britain has got when she is nowhere close to the quality of Beverley Knight live.

congrats to her, I guess.

Wow at all these conpiracy theories. I get that Syco are just in it for the money and whatever but I have to tell you, some of these conspiracy theories are PATHETIC. Especially Simon didn't even care about Alex until much later in the competition... Especially considering she was always near the bottom of the voting until WEEK 8. And, well, you jst completely murdered the whole basis of your argument by saying that you believe what papers like the sun and the news of the world. Even when they come with no facts or references.

And as for the british public being "sheeps" argument. No Alex probably wouldn't have gotten to number one if she had done this song on her own, but why? The X factor exposes you to so many different types of people, they will obviously be a fraction of people who might just LIKE the song and want to buy it. Look, the first week sold 576,000 or something that means that only 4% of the viewers bought it. Don't you think that maybe that relatively small fraction of people could have actually liked it? Or is that too absurd for you to consider?

And just because you think that shes not a great singer, doesn't mean that its the gospel. I personally think she has a beautiful voice. It wasn't her best performance but I don't even think it was that far off leona, typically with us british there is a lot of overrating going on with leona, as there was with tim henman and the England football team. For someone even to claim that she is better than 90's Mariah is CRAZY. I love Alexandra's voice and prefer it to Leona's. It has a beautiful tone compared to leona's thinner and much more poppy tone and for me she is able to connect with the music and be more emotional than leona. Although she may not have the range of leona, I think her range is quite underrated and we havent seen the best of it yet at all, she was already belting E5s which is no mean feat and I think she can go further with vocal training. Don't get me wrong, I love leona. But I prefer Alexandra and her voice much more.

oh wake up! x factor is simon cowells contemp circus whos ONLY aim is to make money! he doesnt give a flying fcuk about YOU or the public, the artist or music. morons have bought it in their droves just to be part of the hysteria that is x factor. that is the ONLY reason its at #1.

theres no creativity, no musianship, no message, no meaning to this karaoke tripe. again, it reprisents EVERYTHING thats wrong with the great british public that in their wisdom can project this rubbish to the top of our feeble charts.... want more evidence? well just look at the publics recent history in chosing a eurovision entry!!!! year after year they miss the best and chose the worst.

a small fraction might like it, but not enough to give it all this false accolade, the biggest selling single of the year? the fastest selling single? #1 for another week?... god once upon a time records acheived that simply by being GOOD, without hype and without mr contemptable cowell.

Yeah, I get why you hate everything that the X Fatctor stands for. But how do you know that alex isn't gonna go away and make something fresh, new and blow everyone away with her first album? Even though I like this song, I know that it is there just to make quick money for Cowell but you can't afely say that she isn't gonna come back with something innovative and BIG. Sucess as an X Factor winner isn't guarenteed, just look at Steve Brookstein and Leon. The reason I like Alex is because I feel she can do exactly that and make some amazing music. Writing her own songs as well as working with the very best.

Some people are so easily conditioned by the media into doing whatever they want anyone who bought this really you are what is wrong in society. The tragic thing is they dont even realise that they have been more or less brainwashed.

Gullible fools  .

As I said before, not everyone has the same taste as you. There might just be people who like the song? Or is that too absurd?

TIP don't you get bored of trying to make everyone conform to your point by typing the same thing over and over and over? I can't count the amount of times I have heard your spiel about Sinitta, Ian Hyland, the London Community Choir and Max f***ing Clifford!

I have NEVER brought an X Factor single before, WE LIKE HER VOCAL, GET OVER IT.

i just youtubed it. when i saw her perform live i wasn't really moved. her voice lacked strength altho very pretty. in the recorded version for the single she sounds a lot better. she can only get better really.
Let us not forget it was recorded the day after she won the show and sobbed and screamed alot. It wasn't even bad, it just wasn't the fantastic we're used to!

I looved the performance.

And yeah, I just don't think they get it. -_-

thats possible, but highly unlikely, after all why hasnt she already done it? thats how true talents do it, id suggest that her failure to secure a recording deal prior to x factor is simply because she isnt good enough.... so why should it change now? id be surprised if she was still around by next crimbo... by then she will be just another forgettable name.

There are 1,000s of truely talented artists in the industry that never secure a record deal - Getting a record deal does not make you a better performer alot of it comes down to luck. I can totally understand why an act wanting to have a pop career would choose the XF route to success regardless of if you think that Alexandra will be around next year the fact is that she will have achieved a million selling single and pre-orders for her album have topped 300,000 so with that much interest in her then I am sure she will be able to have some sort of career for many years to come.

Amen.

oh yeah? where?...

i think thats an urban myth, a saying with no substance, the fact is that alex HAS touted herself about and has FAILED to secure a record deal..... why? because shes c**p!

winning x factor means absolutely nothing. it is no indication of her 'talent' at all because its an overhyped karaoke contest run by an old man who gives not one jack $h!t about music, but cares ONLY for making money.

i predict that many here praising her atm, will one day be cringing at that decision, with it/her being clearly in the 'omg what was i thinking off' bin.
