December 23, 200816 yr Diana's version is better. Dan you really should take up stand up comedy you would have the audiences rolling in the aisles :manson:
December 23, 200816 yr its not quite like that though, yes you need talent, but you also need charisma, you need to have something to say and the ability to convert it into pleasant music. you need to be a talented individual. theres hundereds and thousands of people who can sing competantly, some can even compose or play instruments, but without that 'x factor' ...() you are just another person. sometimes you just arnt good enough. Agree with this That is why no matter how technically gifted Leona Lewis is she will never be considered one of the greats as she has no charisma or emotion, she is effectively a highly gifted performing seal

Ah, yeah. Forget Leona for a second anyway, im not really that bothered about her. But Alexandra has tons of charisma, so I hope it does rub off on her music. :)
December 24, 200816 yr I like the way Alexandra sings Hallelujah, but I've never been a fan of the song. I like her version of Don't Stop the Music.
December 24, 200816 yr They put out about 200 copies of Alexandra's single when I was in Woolworths today and they had gone within 15 minutes due to the 50% reduction on all Woolworths stock - Should help her sell loads of extra copies this week if all Woolworths have similar amounts still to sell :D
December 25, 200816 yr Dan you really should take up stand up comedy you would have the audiences rolling in the aisles :manson: That wasn't meant to be funny, silly. I watched Diana's performance of Hallelujah and it's far better than Alex's version. Btw, she was awful on TOTP today.
December 26, 200816 yr ^TOTP certainly wasn't awful. It wasn't great, average for her standards, her voice sounded thin and weak. But this probably just had something to do with the fact that TOTP was filmed the day after she won X Factor, the morning after all the partying which inevitably followed her win. The last 1/4 was still good though. And her performance on X Factor was amazing.
December 26, 200816 yr The performance was awful for two reasons, her vocals and the performance itself. It was a carbon copy of the Leona performance shown minutes before.
December 27, 200816 yr The performance was awful for two reasons, her vocals and the performance itself. It was a carbon copy of the Leona performance shown minutes before. And? They are similar songs, with the low verses and then the big emotive climax at the end so of course they're gonna be similar. If Alex hadsung first would you seriously have criticized Leona's performance for being "A carbon copy" of Alex's one?
December 27, 200816 yr The performance was awful for two reasons, her vocals and the performance itself. It was a carbon copy of the Leona performance shown minutes before. Hardly. Other than the fact they are big ballads how was it a carbon copy? Leona's voice was a million times better and she hit notes Alex can only dream of.
December 27, 200816 yr Yikes, same old English elitist bull$h!t. It'll never tire ;) "English"??? Er, look at the flag to the left hand side of this post..... Or is it you have a problem with me using proper English grammar....? "Elitist"?? Considering I just namechecked the likes of Lennon/McCartney, Madonna and Micheal Jackson as examples of those who once had the "X-Factor" and between them they have sold enough records to sink the bloody titanic about ten times over, just how the fukk am I being "elitist", you plank...... :P
December 27, 200816 yr I personally prefer alex over leone because she seems more versatile even simon himself said that.
December 27, 200816 yr I personally prefer alex over leone because she seems more versatile even simon himself said that. A story in a tabloid claimed he said that, I doubt he did.
December 27, 200816 yr I personally prefer alex over leone because she seems more versatile even simon himself said that. I think Alex is OK and of the finalists in the competition she deserved to win, and her version of Halleluja is not unpleasant to listen to. However, I honestly don't think she can hold a candle to Leona Lewis. I'm not a fan of the kind of stuff Leona does - but hearing her sing Run makes me believe that she can be as versatile as anyone - and I wish she'd do some more 'soft rock' songs. Its no insult to Alex as after being 'exposed' to Leona for over a year now ... I honestly don't think Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Beyonce or Celine Dion can hold a candle to Leona. Dinno - empty your in-box - I've been trying to send you a PM! Norma Edited December 27, 200816 yr by Norma_Snockers
December 28, 200816 yr Wow, what a thing to say Norma! Huge statement! Personally I believe that the versatility we're really talking about is umtempos and ballads - and Leona while being a master of the second, is no real expert at the former. In 'Forgive Me', she has a fantastic set of dancers, but all she does herself is move her hips and walk forwards, then backwards. Alexandra (who is my favourite contestant on a reality show ever, I say this because I hope it means this next statement will help validate my opinion as something other than a crazy biased fan) has not got as strong a vocal as Leona, in my opinion. However, there are things she can do which Leona just can't - and she does everything so well - we can't all be Leona Lewis, doesn't mean you can't be a bloody good singer. She is a wonderful allrounder. I believe I have heard Simon actually say Alexandra is more versatile. He also disputed Louis Walsh's claim that Alexandra was the best vocalist the show had ever had (Xtra Factor), bringing up Leona, so much as I dislike him at times, he does seem to recognise their strengths. And like he said himself, WHY is there such a fuss about the UK having similar (debatable) artists in Leona and Alexandra, when the US have Whitney, Mariah, Beyonce, Christina, Britney... there is so much room for both artists.

But if you'll forgive me  'Forgive Me' was a pretty c**p song - totally beneath Leona and if anyone had sung that song - they'd probably have done as 'relatively' poorly with it. I do think given the right uptempo - even an all-out rock - song Leona could sing it better than anyone. I do think Alex has the 'personality' and she does possess these 'all round' skills that you say ... but she doesn't really stand out from anyone to me. I'm not at all certain if she will be around in a couple of years time the way Leona has remained so. For one thing - despite his giveaway compliments every now and again (in an attempt to make people think he's human) Simon Cowell has lost interest in the X-Factor - I doubt he'll put as much money and effort into Alex as he has done with Leona. Norma
December 28, 200816 yr I fear you're probably right about that... however I hope he does give her at least SOME access to writers like Tedder.. the first album material will be totally make or break for her (I know they say that every week on the X Factor but it's actually true this time :P)

Dinno - empty your in-box - I've been trying to send you a PM! Norma LOL. No Leona is certainly an amazing talent but her main strength is both her belting range and full range, and: Mariah live: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-fOr8wLVRTo Leona live: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6G7F2Bgb9qU Even Jojo has a wider live range than her. :P And when describing someone's voice. Many people are forgetting that versatility of voice is a big factor. And Alexandra has sooo much versatility. She can sing anything, unlike Leona. Im not a fan of her at all but even with all the stick that Mariah gets nowadays due to the fact that the direction she was going with her music had changed dramatically, it just strengthens her claim to the greatest voice ever due to the massive difference between the music she was making in the 90s to now. She she is really comfortable with uptempos as well as being an amazing ballad singer. I am a big admirer of Leona's voice but I do think it can be overrated sometimes. But anyway, Alex and Leona are to completely different singers. You never see people comparing Toni braxton and Mariah. They have completely different strengths and weaknesses and I think britain should just appreciate the fact that we have two singers of their calibur now, rather than constantly comparing them.
December 28, 200816 yr 2nd week at #1 and also... BIGGEST SELLING SINGLE OF 2008!! :w00t: Also, Hero is the second biggest selling single!

I disagree. I doubt Alex could ever interpret a song and completely "make it her own" like Leona did with Run.
