Well it seems Jeff has the edge so far. I wonder what this will do to the charts on Sunday.

Maybe no X-factor #1 this year.

You're joking right? Have you even seen the latest midweeks? I don't see Jeff overturning a 300K lead in a day...reaching 100K is much more likely IMO

Alexandra. But I do like Jason Castro's version from American Idol - not David Cook as stated in the OP :P

The main problem here is that the people voting for Alexandra more than likely never heard Hallelujah before she ruined it.... she doesn't understand (as she's admitted) what the song is about....so how can you sing it with any genuine feeling? She was genuinely shocked when told the song was about sex and the female orgasm

If she understood what Cohen meant when he wrote it - then of course she'd have sung the song completely differently.... because the way she oversings it is totally at odds with the meaning of the song...

The best version, by miles, is the late, great Jeff Buckley. Alexandra has a wonderful voice....but Hallelujah simply isn't the song for her.

Jeff of course. Leonard aswell... Alexandra ruined this song to bones. Such a shame.

Isn't it ironic that an X factor winner sings this line "But you don't really care for music, do you?" (i mean that not at Alex but at those buying a song because of the X factor fame).

My fav versions are from Cohen and Rufus Wainwright!!! :yahoo:

Feeling the need to put a version from Rufus here :

When did the say that? Also is there a line-by-line interpretation of the lyric anywhere? I get it, in a general sense, but I'd like to understand it better...

Love Rufus' version by the way, forgot about it. Although he does kind of sing "holy duck" in the video version  And what does he know about the female orgasm? ;)

Alexandra admitted this week in the Sun's Bizarre column that she thought the song was about God

And Cohen has written many times that the song is overtly sexual - in fact, he often adds different verses in to the song when he plays it live - usually far more explicit than the recorded versions.

I hadn't heard Jeff Buckley's version till this week, but it's truly stunning and I can see why it's so raved about.

Like some have said, Jeff Buckley brings out the real emotion in the song and it just doesn't suit Alexandra, the song doesn't sound quite right sung by a big soulful voice. I hope she finds something that suits her voice more for future releases.

Jeff!

Jeff Buckley ... followed by kd lang's version. I don't really like the Rufus Wainwright one and I don't like Alex's version. I like her and she was the right winner of the show ... I just don't like this choice of song for her. But does it matter? If the X-Factor winner had sung 'When I'm Cleaning Windows' it would still be the Christmas number 1.

In today's, 'The Sun', their 'Bizarre' Page Journalist - Gordon Smart,

is claiming that it is ALL down to him, & his recent 'Campaigns' that:,

1) Jeff Buckley will be No.2 tomorrow.

2) The BBC has decided to bring back 'Top Of The Pops'

3) Sony released 'Run' as a UK Download.

A modest little fellow! (And his surname is a contradiction!).
