Burn got me hooked :wub:

I really can't see this girls appeal. Her music/voice/look is like everything else out there. All her songs (that I've heard anyway) have been ok only :(

Is it because she's basically an Australian Ciara? :(

Perhaps she's slightly more 'Pop' than Ciara, but "Running Back" reminds me of the sort of thing Ciara would have released before giving in to the JT song. I'd put her in the category of R&B divas that are nice to listen to but aren't very gifted vocally, with Ciara. (and Cassie and Ashanti and Christina Milian and Keri Hilson and Rihanna - apparently there are a lot of them!)

I just think she makes decent catchy RnB/Pop songs, of course she's nothing special but she's fun to listen to and that's all really.

Are you guys serious? Ciara? Woah. Hold on!

 

Im sorry but that is such an insult. Personally I love some of the songs: RB, Burn, Been Waiting, Used2B, Empty, Because... But I can see why a lot of people dont think her album is anything spectacular. But look, shes 19, she's such a newcomer in the industry and shes still trying to find her feet as an artist, I think this album is a pretty great effort for someone who's only been around for like 3 years and who made her album in australia.. I mean no disrespect to australia and australian music but RnB-wise, it is a HOLE.

 

I'll tell you what separates her from Ciara; her VOICE. Im sorry, but Ciara can't sing.. Jessica? In 3/4 years if she manages to break the US and UK she could easily be one of the top 5 voices in the world at that. Its so natural, so distinctive, so amazing. This album she made has been so safe and within herself, there's so much more of her voice that we have yet to hear. For her second album I so hope she has just a MASSIVE ballad. I get that shes virtually unknown to most of us Brits but I kinda had to LOL at the "arent vocally gifted" and "nothing special parts" but you learn something new every day. :P

12 is good. They really pumping money into her in Australia it seems, so they can persuade her to stay with SOny BMG when the inevitable loads of offers begin to flood in when her contract runs out soon. Shes coming to the UK next month.... I cant wait!

Ciara may not be able to sing as well, but she has star quality this girl could only DREAM of having. Ciara is a born performer... most singers can stand on stage and sing a few pretty notes, even RIHANNA can do that.

Hmmmm.... Well that is very subjective because i've never ever gotten the hype of Ciara.. I just dont get what this star quality is, I mean she can dance and she can make good songs but I dunno my definition of star quality in a singer would be someone who can blow the whole audience away with their voices. And some of the videos i've seen from Jess have done exactly that.. Just go and look at that video I posted a couple of posts up where Jessica is singing Beautiful.. Look at the audience's reaction. THATS star quality IMO. Thats why shes becoming so big in Australia and looks to be going around the world to do the same...

 

And I just dont get it, its not like Ciara has even just an average voice like as you mentioned rihanna, in the few times i've seen her sing live, its been awful.. And that has completely put me off the rest of the performance.

MAJOR WTF @ people comparing her to Ciara. She's EXTREMELY vocally talented, have you even seen her perform "Burn" on Australian Idol? Her voice is stunning.. Ciara, Cassie, Rihanna literally have no voices, maybe Rihanna (I've got her live dvd and it's pretty Damn good).. I thought the Ciara fans of all people would like Jess..

I guess she's just way much more talented and exciting for Mikal and Jark's liking, "Been Waiting" outweighs "Fantasy Ride" and "In A Perfect World" by a long mile!

LSM is cheese, and Ciara's songs take AGES to grow on you so unfulfilled and most-of-the-time-bland they are, with Like A Boy/Goodies/Oh as exceptions, where with Jess most of her songs you fall inlove with on first listen

She's got a unique sound of her own, what artist does upbeat Pop&B styled songs AND ballads, her whole album is self-written, I'd recognize her amazing voice from a mile away.. She's anything but "just another artist with just another voice", comparing Ciara as better than her is a complete joke .. :blink:

 

And "Because" is now her 4th single, I only got this album last week and after the minor flop of her 3rd single.. "Because" should follow an unfortunate and even worse trend, sadly as good as it is. Jess should stick to upbeat "Burn"-esque songs as singles and save the ballads as album tracks I guess.. "Been Waiting" deserved so much better than just #12, but I guess not every single will got top 3 or no.1 off an album, her SECOND single going no.1 just showcases her major appeal even more..

Burn is the best track off the album, but there are some other hidden gems on there. Shame Been Waiting hasn't been as successful

We can't expect everything top get top 3, esp. as its her first album. But I love Because and from what i've seen, they're really gonna whore this around Australia to try and get it up there. LOL, I truly hope so, she's doing a great job of it on twitter already.. :o I first heard "Running Back" ages ago last year.. Jack sent it for BJSC and was on about how well it was doing in Australia and I thought she'd turn out as another Gabriella Cilmi (one-hit wonder) but "Burn" getting to no.1 and both her first two singles going platinum there certainly does show there's plenty of open doors for her on the global scene and she's got both the US and UK appeal to become pretty huge. ♥ her.

I do think was kinda within herself though. Thats probably why people who dont know much about her and havent seen her AI vids think shes another one of those singers who can't actually sing. I hope she does a massive ballad on her next album.. As I said before, I LOVE this:
