Posted December 20, 200816 yr From rté: RTÉ is inviting interested parties to submit an entry to represent Ireland in next year's Eurovision Song Contest which will take place in Moscow in May. RTÉ is inviting submissions which are based not only on song composition, but also on the singer, visual presentation and performance details. This following a review of the selection process and taking account of new developments in the Eurovision Song Contest itself. The deadline for submission is 2 February next. OH DEAR GOD. Please will a performer with ACTUAL talent please enter. And no ballads. I HATE BALLADS. Discuss. And take a cookie :)
December 21, 200816 yr Author If you can sing, go for it :o I hope we get some good acts to choose from. Last year, there were only two good ones to choose from (and no, Dustin wasn't one of them :P) And I really hope Dana will not be there. She's such a pain in the ass. :arrr:
December 21, 200816 yr If Leona Daly can come up with anything anywhere near as good as NCAA then it would be worth her going for another punt...
December 23, 200816 yr Author If Leona Daly can come up with anything anywhere near as good as NCAA then it would be worth her going for another punt... Hope so! Something on Rté.ie made my blood boil: "The competition will be called Eurosong 2009. There will be a Late Late Show Eurosong Special on a date to be confirmed in late February or early March, where six shortlisted songs and performers will compete to decide Ireland's entry." I guess we are stuck with Plank this year. <_< I bet we're going to bit stuck with six old feckers from Donegal or Cork or something.
December 23, 200816 yr I don't like it when it's on the late late show, makes it seem a little cheap and like a half-hearted effort has gone into it. I hope this time Ireland enters something that's visually polished, usually the song itself is good but the execution of the performance leaves alot to be desired.
December 24, 200816 yr Author It's cheap :( I don't see why they do this. I mean, we have NO singing competition in this country, Gerry Ryan gets paid €500,000 a year to be a gob$h!te on radio.... but there isn't enough money to stage a proper show for an act to represent Ireland in Europe. I HATE THIS COUNTRY.

December 24, 200816 yr Author Its sad really - Especially as during the 90s Ireland was the home of Eurovision! Indeed. I think I may get my cardboard sign and start picketing outside the Rté studios in Donnybrook! :drama:
January 30, 200916 yr Author Six songs and regional juries for Eurosong Pat Kenny, the host of RTE's Friday evening entertainment programme the "Late Late Show" this evening revealed some details about the upcoming Eurosong special. A total of six acts will take part, with the winner being decided by a mixture of televoting and regional juries from around Ireland. This year sees a return to the ''Late late Show'' format after it was dropped in light of Dervish's last-placed finish in 2007. It did, however, help Brian Kenndy to the top ten in Athens. Last year saw a special show, 'Eurosong 2008', in which Dustin the Turkey flew to victory (I know, Turkey's don't fly, but it was the best I could do!). The Irish national final takes place on February 20. Regional juries? Like a Munster jury and so on? I don't understand why it's gone back to the Late Late. I mean, it was dropped because Dervish came LAST. But Eurosong didn't send a song that came LAST... it was just an epic FAIL. I don't want to watch Plank Kenny yap on for hours whilst he's wearing one of his many knitted jumpers. :( I wish we'd get back to an actual contest where there is competition. It seems with these recent "contests" there isn't any real competition because only two acts are good. I wish we'd be like Norway where we hold regional semi finals and then one big feck-off final in Dublin or Cork or something. It would be so much better! There are so many talented singers and bands in this country, but they're scared to be labelled as a Eurovision entry. Cathy Davey, Roisin Murphy, and many other artists that are so talented but won't f***ING TRY IT. I'm going to go away now before I break something.
February 1, 200916 yr i realkly hope there is some decent songs in the final 6 and not a load of tosh,,id love ireland or Uk to win as both countries have won in every decade they have taking part so in order to keep that record they need a win this year
February 2, 200916 yr Leona Daly has swallowed her pride and entered again, as has Donal Skehan, as part of a boyband. Whether either of them make the final 6 is another matter.
February 2, 200916 yr Leona :cheer: Donal was a bit of a waste of space, buit I think a boyband is his natural place. Are all entrants revealed now?
February 2, 200916 yr Author I'm sure Leona will get into the final 6 :w00t: . Not sure about Donal and Co. I think his song last year was good, but his confidence needed work. He was very nervous!
February 2, 200916 yr I'm sure Leona will get into the final 6 :w00t: . Not sure about Donal and Co. I think his song last year was good, but his confidence needed work. He was very nervous! I don't think a boyband would do well at Eurovision to be honest. Apparently Louis Walsh is the brains behind them, so it could be interesting to see what they come up with. As for Donal, he was very confident, even though he always knew he was going down to that turkey! Unfortunately I just don't think his vocals were up to carrying the song on his own. Met him during the final last year though. Really really nice guy, and a genuine fan. I hope he manages to get to the contest one day.
February 2, 200916 yr Author Yeah, he seems really nice. The studio version of his entry last year was much better, I think. And if Louis is behind this band, then they may have a good chance. He does have a good track record with his acts. Leona, Donal and Maya were my favorites last year. I just hope Leona gets picked and can pull of a great performance like last year. She was quite popular during Eurovision time. She was on a number of radio shows and she was commenting on a load of the performances. She's got a good sense of humor, too. What ever happened to her album?
February 2, 200916 yr I hope Leona makes it to the final 6! "Not Crazy after all" was a great song! :D Let's hope theres no turkeys entering this year......or crazy frogs or anything of the sort.
February 2, 200916 yr Author Maybe Zig n' Zag will enter. Or Bosco. :puke2: The fact that it's televoting and regional juries makes it easier for the good acts to win. If there was a jury last year, I don't think Dustin would have made it. Edited February 2, 200916 yr by Cal★
February 2, 200916 yr Maybe Zig n' Zag will enter. Or Bosco. :puke2: Feck off :puke2: I didn't know Leona was meant to have an album. I don't know why they didn't release NCAA here in the UK. It would have been huge, especially as it was co-written by the same guy who wrote Duffy's Mercy...
