Below doth be my assessment. Having now read the LA Times review, it'd appear I am of a similar mode of thinking:

Kelly Clarkson 'My Life Would Suck Without You'

(RCA; 2009)

Poor poor Kelly Clarkson, she's had a rough old time of things. Stuck in a loveless relationship with a record label/old man that make her dress up in clothes she doesn't like, sing songs she doesn't like and be the person she isn't. 'My December' was her moment "on a break", free from the confines of her sterile relationship, a moment to forget the fake, transparent times of 'Breakaway'. Sure it had 'Because of You'; "that one track that actually meant something in a totally nonsensical way" but if you judge albums as artistic statements 'Breakaway' pretty much was dog $h!t on a canvas.

But that manipulative and controlling husband RCA-Davis cut any chance of Kelly flourishing dead. No radio payola, rumours ablaze, bad press pushed to all. Poor Kelly left humiliated. The only option; to return to the fold. Just as Kelly was finding her feet and establishing herself as a songwriter, an artistic orifice.

Then comes her statement of conformation: 'My Life Would Suck Without You'. A track as vapid and soulless as the title would suggest. The blueprint here seems to be "make another Since U Been Gone". The lifeless, weak lyrics are back, over-egged production too and of course the power hook which stitches this hollow shell of a track together. It's vapid, self-conscious and ultimately the product of manipulation and fakery. f*** actually writing quality music, who needs that when you've masterminded the perfect radio friendly chorus?

So Ms. Clarkson is back at the beginning, doing what she was told to do, exactly as she was in 2005. Still locked in a loveless marriage, doing things she quite clearly does not wish to do. It means nothing; but it sure does have a hook!

The sleeve to the forthcoming full length 'All I Ever Wanted' is the perfect image to sum-up the Clarkson of now: it depicts a vacant, over glossed girl who's been airbrushed to oblivion. But behind those touched-upped eyes lies a sadness that tells her story— the truth. A truth that remains no matter how many thousands of dollars Sony throw in the wind, pretending it's all real. Because that's the last thing it is.

Truth hurts.

But I don't believe Kelly would do something she really didn't like doing...

What choice does she have? She's under contract.

A depressing read but i cant say i disagree as many good points are made here. My Life Would Suck is no doubt going to be one of my favs of 2009 but i was rather hoping the lead single would be a bit less Since U Been Gone Part II but there's always hope they she's managed to put a few MD type tracks on the album.

People are always going to compare all of her lead singles to SUBG. Until she comes out with a bigger hit (Hopefully this is it), SUBG is always gonna be the the bar that people think she will never hit again.

Never mind her life, it's ours which have been worse off for Kelly's disappearance from the airwaves...

Kelly Clarkson

'My Life Would Suck Without You'

RCA

'I know that I've got issues / But you're pretty messed-up too' accuses the original American Idol winner on the first single from her fourth record 'All I Ever Wanted'. Don't be fooled, though; this is not a down-with-men! convention. Kelly has moved on, it seems. Perhaps third album 'My December' was just what was required to get that out of her system because on her highly-anticipated comeback single, Kelly admits defeat; 'You've got a piece of me / And honestly, my life would suck with you'. Progress!

We've got Dr.Luke, one of the handful of pure pop producers in demand in America, to thank for these three-and-a-half minutes of aural joy. Under Clarkson's all-conquering vocal he lays down a pumping, relentlessly energetic electro-pop-rock beat to rival the best of his back catalogue - this is better than 'Hot n' Cold', better than 'Girlfriend'. Clearly it helps that he has an A-grade vocalist at his disposal for however appealing a computer can make Ms.Perry or Mrs.Lavigne's vocals sound, they can't touch Kelly's tones, emotive and effortless in equal measures. The song is, by big comeback standards, simplistic and sometimes even subtle, from the demure guitar-led intro to the retro drum-roll leading into the final chorus. Most importantly it is immensely catchy, sporting a hook - multiple hooks - which won't leave your mind for days, weeks, probably months.

It'd be nice to see that RCA haven't totally eradicated Kelly's clearly-ample songwriting abilities from 'All I Ever Wanted' but, as lead singles go, 'My Life' could barely be more perfectly-conceived. Call it the 'So What' of 2009.

I think its a shame its nothing really new and that she is trying to redo something she did before. I dont really care about any of that right now though! Ive just put the song on my iphone and Im addicted!!!

Im pretty shocked to be excited about her again, I really went off her in the MD era lol

^^Will definatly get a higher peak i should imagine. Sales are higher than they were in 05 aswell so it should sell more aswell.

Not at the moment LOL
Yes sales are higher? Singles sales are double what they were in 2005.
