Oprah helps propel Blunt on Billboard chart

Source: Music week

Daytime TV queen Oprah Winfrey has helped James Blunt scale new heights on the US albums chart.

Following a performance screened last Wednesday on Winfrey’s show across the States, Blunt’s Back To Bedlam has reversed its decline on the Billboard 200 chart by moving up seven places to a new peak of two. The album was just 32,000 sales from claiming the number one spot, which instead is filled by fellow Atlantic artist Juvenile who debuts at the top with Reality Check.

The Blunt album’s sales improved week-on-week by 142% to reach a new personal weekly best of 174,000 sales last week. It is the highest-ranking debut album by a UK act on the chart since the Spice Girls’ Spice reached number one for Virgin Records in 1997.

Blunt, who performed his Hot 100 chart-topping You’re Beautiful and Goodbye My Lover on Winfrey’s programme, is presently in the first week of a North American tour which started on Monday in Washington DC. The 21-date tour concludes with two shows in San Francisco on April 5 and 6 before Blunt heads for dates in Australasia and Japan. He will return to the US for the Coachella Festival in California on April 30 before beginning a European tour in Lisbon on June 16.

Blunt’s single You’re Beautiful last week lost its place at number one on the Hot 100 after a week to Ne-Yo’s So Sick.

Number two :o I'm so pleased for him, even though he does irritate me in a way words can't explain :D
 he'll still be plugging this album at the end of the year, so don't expect a follow up until the end of next year i bet!
Are there any new big releases that will enter next week? If there is none it will be a battle for no 1 between Blunty and High School Musical since rappers like Juvenile usually blummet down more than 50% on their 2nd week. Just look Ne-Yo (ok, not rap but close enough) and how much his sales fell this week...
