December 28, 200816 yr Author A little something I prepared the other day. And yes, I missed off Leon Jackson at the start of 2008, and note the dates are w/e dates.
December 28, 200816 yr So there were 20 No1's in 2008 – just a few more than we were expecting after that opening 5-5-4-4- sequence of long runners at the start of the year. In the end we had 3 more than last year but fewer than in any year between 1996 and 2006! 2008 was the first year since 2004 we didn't have a 7+ week No1 (2005: Tony Christie[7]; 2006: Gnarls Barkley[9]; 2007 Rihanna[10] & Leona Lewis[7]), although like 2007 we had 3 5+ week No1's (2008: Basshunter[5], Duffy[5] & Katy Perry[5]; 2007: Mika[5], Rihanna[10] & Leona Lewis[7]). Britain's Got Talent and Coldplay's eccentric single release strategy yielded a false turn over of chart toppers in the summer. While an unprecedented busy fourth quarter album release schedule and X Factor ensured a more turbulent conclusion to 2008 at the summit. Edited December 28, 200816 yr by ej87

December 28, 200816 yr It's great that If I Were a Boy got to #1 the week it did. It was in between some monster acts from the UK. And after 2 months it is still in the top 3!
