my itunes has finally updated for the first time since boxing day.

I don't think the rises are TOTP related at all. Far more likely to be connected to the big three NYE shows - Jools Holland (Adele, Duffy, Dizzee Rascal, Sam Sparro, Lily Allen et al), BBC (Alesha) and Elton John at the O2 on ITV (Alexandra, Will Young).
