Chris Martin has admitted that Coldplay have given themselves until 2010 to produce their best work yet.

The 'Viva La Vida' singer revealed that the deadline is in recognition of their tenth anniversary as a band.

"We feel bands need to fill their first 10 years, so we have lots to do before December 31, 2009," he told The Sun. "I know it’s stupid, but that’s kind of our deadline. We have to do something good by then."

The band, who formed in 1998, achieved worldwide fame with their debut LP, 2000's Parachutes, and have gone on to sell around 40 million albums worldwide.

"We’ve done some pretty good stuff, but there’s something about the year changing to 2010," he added. "I’ll also be 33 that year, and I always feel that marks a different phase of songwriting. So I just try to keep as busy as possible till then.

"Most of my heroes did most of their great stuff before they were 33. It’s not that you can’t do great stuff afterwards. You just have to have deadlines, otherwise you’ll spend all day in the sauna."

it seems silly but it sounds like were going to get loads of new material this year.

but if they are going ti rush it, it may not be up to the same quality :(

Why did they have to release Prospekts March as an EP? They could've used it as a platform for improving it even more (not that its needed) into the studio album that way it wouldn't be so much rushing.. But now the EP is out and I'm probably guessing the new album will sound similar. Anyways a new album again is great. Cannot wait. .

PM was a sort of potential B Sides collection I think - extra good stuff left over from VLV.

Would be good to hear more progression in the next album, whenever it is......!

I think Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends is their best album yet, and imo, it is an amazing work of art! I'd say mission accomplished, but if they feel they are still to release an amazing album, then bring it on!

Well, personally I don't think that "personal deadlines" cant be breaked. You know, if you want to get the best - you should request impossible.

So its ok to have plans for the 2010 and still release great stuff a bit later :)
