Shaky do you know if 2fm will be doing its annual year end top 40? I heard you mentioned on another forum they will be doing a decade one on new years eve? (even though the top 14 can be seen on irishcharts.ie site)

 

Nothing mentioned in the RTE Guide about the year end chart. Unless they do it on Sunday 27th instead of the normal chart.....

I know that Spin 103.8 did one but thats only in the Dublin area

Chart Track Commentary

 

Joe McElderry holds at No1 on the Singles Chart for a second week with ‘The Climb’, extending his lead over the nearest challenger to more than 20,000 sales to claim this year’s Irish Christmas No1. In the process he sells more singles this week than any artist since Six ‘There's A Whole Lot Of Loving Going On’ back in 2002.

 

Rage Against The Machine remain well ahead of all other challengers but stall at No2 with ‘Killing In the Name, and so fail to emulate the UK success of the Facebook campaign to dislodge the X Factor winner. This is, however, the best-selling download in Ireland this week, but the avalanche of Joe McElderry CD sales is enough to sink RATM’s challenge for the overall top spot. Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’ is a non-mover at No3, ahead of X Factor Finalists ‘You Are Not Alone’ at No4 and Black Eyed Peas ‘Meet Me Halfway’ at No5. Cheryl Cole is the only significant mover in the Christmas Top 20, up eight places from No15 to No7 with the second single and title track from her solo album ‘3 Words’.

 

Michael Bublé holds off a strong challenge from Susan Boyle to take a second week at No1 on the Album Chart with ‘Crazy Love’ – his second Christmas No1 album in three years following ‘Call Me Irresponsible’ which achieved this accolade in 2007. With Susan Boyle and Westlife steady at No2 and No3 respectively, Paolo Nutini makes a late surge with ‘Sunny Side Up’ climbing from No9 to No4, in the process overtaking Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas and JLS who all slip back one place.

 

 

Both last week's and this week's properly formatted charts will be posted over the weekend and next Thursday between 4 and 7pm there will be a live countdown of Ireland's Top 40 singles of the decade

Well done Joe and Buble on their xmas number 1's, the chart is fairly static all round and Paolo;s late late show performance gave the album a great boost as did miley cyrus;s late late show apperance.

Physical sales are still alive

Interesting that the Irish Christmas chart is a week after the UK equivalently (makes sense though).

 

Cheryl with two singles in the Irish Top 10. :D

Journey are now level with Galway Girl though there are a further 9 weeks credited to the Sharon Shannon / Steve Earle version.

If more people actually bothered to pay attention to their own chart rather than the UK one they could have made sure RATM got to No.1 :angry:

 

Anyway, hoping GaGa can climb back to the top to claim the first No.1 of 2010! I think she's got a good chance to be honest, are there any big releases in the next couple of weeks?

The Riptide Movement, one of only four Irish artists in the top fifty this week, the only Irish entry this week who is independent, one of only 2 artists who have moved up by more than 6 spots on christmas week (cheryl cole been the other one), the only irish independent who has been 5 weeks in the chart with their release 'ALIVE INSIDE' from November 06th 2009, (still currently in the top 20 of the physical chart). Last week number 27 in the charts with "bringing down the house", The only artist to have 2 singles in the top twenty of the physical chart last week ending 18th of December with "Bringing down the house" and "Alive Inside" ( the only competition been Simon Cowels catalogue of clowns), I have been following this band since I stumbled upon their debut album in May09, check their myspace, facebook or website and compare with chart tracks/irma archives, it makes for some interesting reading.

Nurture and support our own talent after all it is the Irish charts.

P.S, Physicals sales are still alive "The Riptide Movement" are outselling almost every artist in the singles chart on physical sales.......FACT, Happy Christmas
