i wish the irish chart sales were available it would make it the best ever....

I know, we are starved of information! However, once I googled 'irish singles chart sales' and found a website on like the second or third page which gave a small bit of info. It claimed that average sales for a No.1 are 6,000 and average sales for a No.10 are about 1,000. However I don't know how old this website was and whether or not it was started before the inclusion of downloads.

Yep that's the one!! Do you have any idea how old that website is by any chance? And I'd love to know how they got that info out of Chart-Track because I emailed them once asking for sales info and they told me it was all strictly confidential.

interesting read 250 copies for number 30 :o

The guy seems to be connected with the band he mentioned!

I emailed IRMA once (around 2005) and got the following response

Certifications in Ireland are as follows:

Albums:

Gold: 7,500 units sold

Platinum: 15,000 units sold

Singles:

Silver: 7,500 units sold

Gold: 10,000 units sold

Platinum: 15,000 units sold

There are no average single sales as it depends on the release of new repertoire, but on a slow week 500 sales could make the Top 20.

No1 6,000 sales

No10 1,000 sales

No20 400 sales

No30 250 sales

I think that these stats are from 2002 because the band he talks about charted in 2001 and the author says 2001 instead of this year so it must be after....

At http://www.irishcharts.ie they have the Certificated Awards (silver etc...) but this contracticts the Top20 on the Irma website....

The Hot Press Yearbook 2009 states that for albums Gold is awarded for sales of 7500, Platinum is sales of 15,000 and double/triple platinum is a multiple of that figure. The Top 20 above is also in the book along with the awards you quote. The only thing I could think of is that the book wasn't published until May so maybe the certifications cover a longer period
ye maybe because it takes a good while for the certificates to come online.....maybe its Febuary to Febuary or March to March :S

Once again I won't give away any of today's chart but I CAN exclusively reveal that Peter André has failed to trouble the top 50 :D

I guess he's not too well known there?

I guess he's not too well known there?

Well, pretty much everyone knows who he is to be honest. Perhaps it's just a $h!te song.... ;)

Why does Ireland have -the song at #16- already? That's not fair, the video hasn't even premiered here yet.

Well.. you could make this argument for every other country that has got it before the UK

I know.

But why Ireland? I don't get it... why is it more attractive for record labels to release big stuff in Ireland, which goes on to flop until released elsewhere?

Well, a lot of the big stuff gets released in most major markets as well as Ireland. This weeks No.16 has been released in Canada, France and Australia too. But yes, I don't really know why Ireland tends to get the big stuff ahead of the UK. All I know is I'm not complaining!

Chart Track Commentary

Following The Script

Exactly a year after its initial release The Script’s self titled album returns to the top of the Album chart this week, having previously had 5 weeks at No1 last summer. This ends Michael Jackson’s six week reign at No1 as ‘The Essential’ drops a place to No2. Florence & The Machine’s ‘Lungs’ holds firm at No3 for a second week while Black Eyed Peas climb a place from last week’s No5 to No4 – achieving their highest position for ‘The E.N.D.’ in this chart to date.

The Stone Roses have the highest entry into the Top 20 this week as their 1989 debut album – ‘The Stone Roses’ – gets a new lease of life in the form of various 20th Anniversary Editions and re-enters the Chart at No14.

This week’s Singles Chart sees very little movement in the Top 10 as Black Eyed Peas hold onto the No1 position for a fifth week with ‘I Gotta Feeling’ - matching the other two longest running occupiers of the top spot this year – Lady Gaga’s ‘Just Dance’ and Tinchy Stryder’s ‘Number 1’, both of which also achieved 5 weeks at No1. Tinchy Stryders follow up single, ‘Never Leave You’ holds steady at No 2 while Mr Hudson & Kanye West’s ‘Supernova’ is also a non-mover at No3. Beyoncé continues to move in the right direction as ‘Sweet Dreams’ moves up three places from No7 to No4 while Pitbull also climbs a place with ‘I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)’, moving from No6 to No5. Calvin Harris is this week’s highest new entry , coming into the Chart at No9 with ‘Ready For The Weekend’ – the second single to be taken from next week’s Album release of the same name.
