Antony & The Johnsons follow up their Mercury Prize-winning second album ‘I Am A Bird Now’ with ‘The Crying Light’ - this week’s highest new entry at No8 and their first Irish Top 10 album. Outside the Top 10, two other critically-acclaimed bands make their chart debuts: Animal Collective at No13 with their ninth album ‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’ and White Lies at No23 with their first release ‘To Lose My Life’. Lady Gaga takes a second week at No1 on the Singles Chart this week with ‘Just Dance’, ahead of James Morrison & Nelly Furtado who climb to No2 after six weeks in the Top 30 with ‘Broken Strings’. This is the first time that an artist has had the Top 2 Singles for two consecutive weeks since John Lennon’s posthumous achievement in February 1981 with ‘Woman’ and ‘Imagine’. Bell X1 have this week’s highest new entry at No3 with their first new release in more than two years ‘The Great Defector’ – their sixth hit single in Ireland, but the first to make the Top 10. Their previous best was ‘Flame’ which reached No12 in March 2006. The only other new entry in this week’s Top 10 is from Australian electronic duo ‘Empire Of the Sun’ with their debut single ‘Walking On A Dream’ at No8. With Lady Gaga and Bruce Springsteen swapping places at the top of the Album Chart, Lily Allen has to be content with a No3 debut for her second album ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’ – an improvement on the No6 opener for her first album ‘Alright, Still’ in July 2006. Bette Midler has the next new entry at No12 with ‘The Best Bette’, released in September 2008 but until this week never climbing higher than No48. The third and final Top 20 new entry is from The Fray at No13 with their self-titled second album, the follow-up to ‘How To Save A Life’ which reached No4 two years ago. Shaky Fan's Commentary 2 weeks in the Top 2 positions for Lady Gaga - if she makes it again next week it will be the longest spell for the same 2 songs in the Top 2. John Lennon managed 4 consecutive weeks but with different combinations of different songs. Meanwhile on the download chart she also holds the Top 2 positions though this time the 2 songs switch places! On the compilation chart Now 71 notches up a 13th week at the top - if it stays there much longer it could find itself replaced by the follow-up. February 24, 200916 yr I really hope so Xamkou! :D I live just half a mile from the "border" on the North side so I get best of both worlds - I never appreciated how lucky we are being able to pop across and pick up albums a few days earlier! Delighted Ireland loves GaGa so much :wub:
