TBH I much prefer it to Meet Me Halfway... And it still has some way to go to hit any record for length of time in the chart - last week is was only 2nd longest stayer in the top 50 with just over a quarter of the total for Journey's Don't Stop Believin' which has now managed 80 weeks. And Galway Girl has managed 83 weeks for Sharon Shannon & Mundy and a further 9 weeks for the Sharon Shannon & Steve Earle version.

December 5, 200915 yr Ugh. The X-Factors grip on the singles chart is simply sickening. Not a terribly exciting chart this week IMO, but hoping that Bad Romance can finally reach the top next week, although it's more than likely guranteed No.1 the week after, after her performance on you-know-what. Â As the year draws to a close, I think it's time for some reflection! Overall I think it's been an alright year for music, yet this isn't reflected at all in the list of No.1's. Several great songs were kept off the top spot by songs that stayed for just too long. She Wolf, Sexy Bitch, Break Your Heart, Empire State Of Mind and Knock You Down would have all made fabulous No.1's but were all kept off by the same song (except KYD, I think).

Whether Joe can hold on for the Irish Christmas No1 remains to be seen when the official chart is published on Christmas Eve. Rage Against The Machine have the next new entry at No2 with ‘Killing In the Name’, their third hit single in 16 years on the back of a Facebook campaign to topple The X Factor. ‘Killing In the Name’ failed to make the Top 30 in Ireland on original release in 1993, unlike ‘Bullet In The Head’ which reached No28 in the same year and ‘Bulls On Parade’ which reached No26 in 1996. Lady Gaga drops to No3 after a week on top with ‘Bad Romance’ and 3Oh!3 take the next new entry at No4 with ‘Starstrukk’ (feat. Katy Perry) - their second Irish hit single following ‘Don’t Trust Me’ which reached No17 back in May. Following his Late Late Show, X-Factor and Royal Variety Show performances, Michael Bublé ends Susan Boyle’s reign at the top of the Album Chart this week as ‘Crazy Love’ climbs back to the No1 spot after an absence of 5 weeks. Susan Boyle slips to No2 while Westlife drop to No3 with ‘Where We Are’, one place ahead of 2009’s best-selling album so far – Lady Gaga’s ‘The Fame’.
