Lovely? I cringed. :( Yeah Dr Al is hot but it pains me how he's ONLY eye candy. Nobody can be so pretty but so lacking a personality surely?!

Hugely realistic too! Not! Does anyone actually know where their doctor lives ... let alone get invited out on a date by him. Isn't it against the rules for a doctor to date or even get as familiar as this one does with all his patients. Mine certainly doesn't drink in our local!

But most of the doctor's I have seen have been old, turban wearing with unreadable handwriting. Dr.Al is just... Hot.

To be fair, eye candy NEVER = acting talent or personalities on a soap. Remember Dennis Rickman?
Dennis had a personality! :( I didn't even think he was that hot but I didn't think he was as wooden as people claimed either.
Oh he was DREADFUL. Okay, well admittedly on script, Dennis had a personality, but it REALLY didn't translate well onto the screen. Harman is one of the most wooden actors I've seen on TV for years. Even now he's helping Hotel Babylon plumb depths not even they've seen before.
I cant see Doctor Al lasting long to be honest, as they dont seem to have any decent storylines for him unless they come up with one soon. Soaps never get doctors right, this approaching the doctor in the oub business doesnt happen in real life but soaps including eastenders consistantly make this mistake. For me mad May is the best doctor ever in eastenders i thought she was fantastic.

Totally, Dr Al does have the feel of a 6-month part-timer. It's an EE tradition.

yes, indeed a part timer is correct and i think could very well end up being a very very forgettable part timer aswell. I just wish when they inroduce new charactors they would have long terms plans and goals for them. Personnaly if i was executive producer i would proioritise that before a new charactor is launched there should be decent storylines for that charactor for at least a year. When i say a year i mean develop it on screen for a few months and then hit the storyline on the head with a good peak within the 12 months of it starting.

Lucas for example i think they have handled extremely well, he is very dimensional and is a charactor that has slowly build up but gets mor einteresting all the time, this is the kinda style on charactor i like. The Slaters were also handled fantastically when they joined the show and that is what i want to see happening again.

I think it's just a problem for most of the new characters these days. They all seem to have storylines planned ahead, but it usually takes at least 6 months of the audience getting used to them before anything happens. Susie, Danielle, Syd, Manda etc. all spents months in the soap before any sort of proper storyline came along and they became good characters. (you could argue that Syd and Manda haven't even got that far yet!) Heck, the Masoods were quite pointless for such a long time ('Shabnam' even quit because they weren't going anywhere) and now they're one of the best families on the Square and have won Soap Awards.

Saying that, he's a Doctor and apart from May, they've never really had the most interesting of storylines/characters.

That episode had about four potential duff duff moments! Brilliant. I was crying like a baby when Darren got upset. :(

Really glad they left together.

Oh I just got around to watching the trailer for Sam's return on Digital Spy and I really feel as if this is going to be the show's 'big mistake' of the year. They've had so many great character returns recently - Bianca and Janine are central to the show now - but I just don't understand the mentality behind bringing Daniella Westbrook back. She looks about fifty for starters, whereas Kim Medcalf was utterly gorgeous. Are we expected two believe she's aged two decades in the four years she's been gone? I know a trailer isn't much to go on but her acting doesn't look up to much either (I suppose in that sense it's fairly realistic that she could be Peggy's daughter though).

If Kim Medcalf genuinely did turn a return to the show down then I would've got Daniela Denby-Ashe (Janey from My Family) in. She looks surprisingly similar to Kim and she really can act. I know she played Sarah Hills in EE from '95-99 but that could be easily glossed over since she looked so different back then and it's not like hers was one of the premiere characters in the show's history.

I found it all a bit laughable tbh

How far do you reckon that boat'll get then? My brother-in-law has one just a little bit bigger than that and it'd be hard-pushed to get from Burscough to Southport!

To be honest, I thought it was a dreadful episode. Kara Tointon's acting wasn't great, so the emotional moments fell a bit flat for me.

But I think the root problem is that I still found it impossible to believe that Dawn really did love Garry. It just WOULDN'T HAPPEN.

@ Jark - Fukk off is that Sam Mitchell :o :o

She looks like one of those 50 year old council mums, who drinks & smokes heavily, dyes their hair bleach blonde all the time, tarts herself up in trashy makeup. Jesus!

I know, tragic choice of casting isn't it? Especially since the last Sam was such a hottie...
GOD she looks awful. I'm going to add to the chorus that they should have just stuck with Kim Medcalf.

They asked her and she turned it down....
