February 9, 200916 yr Author MY NAME IS ANNE I GOT A PLAN. Actually surprised Touch My Body is that low. Yeah, exactly. Anne isn't up to much. Quite boring. I was quite surprised at how low MiMi was too but I'd probably only put her two places higher if I didn't base this on the Multichart point system. "Migrate" would have been like #4 out of the songs left.

February 10, 200916 yr Author 05. Sara Bareilles - Love Song [33-14-08-09-02-01-01-03-04-03-03-05-06-08-14-22-29-37-OUT] [18 wks.] *536* http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697315932.JPG At #5 is the 2008 one-hit wonder with the confusing surname. I'd seen people talking about this song for a while before listening to it and I was impressed when I got round to it. This is one of the catchiest songs of last year and very radio friendly so it's no wonder radio loved it. I still get excited when I hear the "head underwater" opening words despite me playing this to near death. I think her sexy accent also did something to increase my love for the song. This spent two weeks at the top of my chart and become something of a summer anthem for me. It spent 18 weeks in my chart, 12 of those in my top 10 which is huge. It's kinda hard to believe that it only spent 6 weeks not in the top 10, a bit of a fast faller for my chart but I can't remember why, I don't think I've ever gone off this song as such. 05. Mariah Carey - E=MC² http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1767179.JPG Highlights: Migrate, Touch My Body, Thanx 4 Nothin' Least Favourite: I Wish You Well At #5 is another album I thought would be much higher, I considered it my #2 album of the year for quite some time but just today I decided that maybe this isn't quite that good. "Migrate" is the opening track and it's actually one of my favourite records of the year as it ended up in my top 5 most played 2008 songs which is something I wouldn't have believed if I was told I'd like a T-Pain collaboration. It should have been lead single etc. "Touch My Body", "Bye Bye", "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" and "I Stay In Love" have already been on my countdown, so it should be obvious that I love those a lot, though the last two are much better in remix form. Not many people like it, but "Thanx 4 Nothin'" is actually my favourite of the ballads. I remember this one afternoon where I was trying to learn the lyrics so I could sing along, I thought I was actually Mariah. <3 When I first listened to the album, "I'm That Chick was my favourite "got flava, like ice cream" is one of my favourite silly lyrics of the year. Another one of those features on "4real4real", a bonus track. "Hotter than cable TV, like something outta your dreams" being the lyrics in question. The rest is quite nice, "Side Effects" especially but there are some songs that are a bit bland. "I Wish You Well" and "Heat" being the songs I don't listen to a whole lot. It's by no means a bad album but from my second favourite artist I guess I wanted more from this album in retrospect, I still consider it one of her best albums though.
February 12, 200916 yr Author 04. Estelle - No Substitute Love [16-05-04-01-01-01-02-02-03-04-06-09-14-16-21-24-30-37-OUT] [18 wks.] *542* http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/AT0318CD2.JPG At #4 is my current iTunes #1 most played song. (after various resets) This was Estelle's second release from the "Shine" era and I finished 24th in BJSC VII with this. This quickly became of of my favourites on the album thanks to the catchy George Michael sample and Estelle's lyrics making it more catchy. I love her rapping on this, especially the "you can't call my name like I'm going outta fashion" bit. Unfortunately this song did make hergo out of fashion in the UK charts as this was her last top 40 hit from the album. I don't know why no one liked it, I was so glad when she decided to release this after "American Boy", only "Shine" would have been as a good a choice. :( This spent 3 weeks at the top of my chart and it could have been 5 had "No Air" (wchich is still to come!) not finally decided to go to the top. I think this is the song that really converted me into being an Estelle fan and listening to her back catalogue. I had never heard of her before "American Boy", she's now one of my favourite artists! 04. Sara Bareilles - Little Voice http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/SARABAREILLES.JPG Highlights: Fairytale, Love Song, Come Round Soon Least Favourite: Many The Miles This is probably the highest impulse buy on my albums list. I had heard "Love Song" and I had heard a little about this from gooddelta but I don't think I had heard any other tracks from clips when I bought this and at £8.99 it wasn't that cheap. When I first played it I was a little disappointed that there were no other "Love Song"'s on there and that it was quite a mature album but after repeat listens I started to appreciate how good it was. I think her accent is too hot to ignore. "Fairytale" eventually became my favourite from the whole album and I sent it to the BJSC (the contest after the Estelle song I've written about in this post coincidentally!) and it finished 16th. It's a nice fun song that you will be singing along to eventually, if you like it or not. I've just said why I love "Love Song", it's the epitome of catchy pop. Now the rest. It's less catchy but still so good. If I recall, "Come Round Soon" was one of gooddelta's least favourites from this album but it's my third favourite. Although I hate smoking and anything to do with it, I really like the use of the "I could use another cigarette" line for some reason. Another standout for me is "Morningside", probably because it isn't as chilled as most of the album. "Bottle It Up" was the second single and it just missed my top 100. I think it's a nice song and good lyrics but just not as commercial as it's predecessor, despite it still sound inoffensive. Although I've selected "Many The Miles" as my least favourite and I haven't mentioned the other songs, this is really complete album. I could put this album on repeat and relax to this all day because the songe, and her voice, are beautiful. Every so often I'll starting singing one of her songs from this album in my head for no particular reason. "No fame no money I'm nobody", "Leave unsaid unspoken eyes wide shut unopened" etc. I think that's a sign of a good album.
February 12, 200916 yr Author 2 Estelle's in the Top 4  LOL AND? :( You're lucky it's just songs I've charted, the chart would probably have all of her album.
February 12, 200916 yr Author 03. [15-01-01-02-01-02-01-01-01-03-07-12-11-17-21-24-28-31-36-37-OUT] [20 wks.] *568* http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/AT0304CDX.JPG "American Boy" is at #3. Yes, #3. :o I would maybe put it one place higher if it wasn't based on points but, yeah, it's not #1. Based on it's statistics you'd think so though. It was the biggest jump to #1 (and perhaps the only to do so from outside the top 10) and it holds the record for most weeks spent at #1 in total. But as it didn't spend that long in the top 10 (outside the top 3) and it's chart run isn't as long as the next two songs it falls at #3, becoming the highest Estelle song on the list. I was actually quite late getting into this, I didn't know who Estelle was so I didn't have any inclination to listen to it. But when I saw that everyone was obsessing over it in their personal charts I thought I had better give it a listen to see what the fuss was over. As the record jump suggests, it became one of the quickest growers of the year for me, I loved it instantly. I don't think this is overrated like most people seem to say it is. I obviously think it's one of the best songs of the year because it still sounds so fresh despite being on of my most played songs. 03. Lady GaGa - The Fame http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1791747.JPG Highlights: Paparazzi, Just Dance, LoveGame, Poker Face, Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say) Least Favourite: Summerboy I guess this is technically a 2009 album for the UK but like most people I heard it late summer in 2008. My favourites are probably quite obvious choices, but that's because they're the best tracks so it's no wonder they're the general favourites. Obviously "Just Dance" is the big, unavoidable, smash that everyone has heard by now. At first I thought she sounded like Ashlee Simpson but after a bit it hit me like it did to most people instantly. I have to say, my favourite is the more mellow "Paparazzi" with the stalker themed lyrics which maybe isn't so instant but great once you get into it. "LoveGame" (disco stick! lol) and "Poker Face" are another two songs in the same vein as "Just Dance", though slightly different and just as good. "Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)" is another one of my highlights, it's a cute bouncy little number with her little catchphrase "cherry cherry boom boom" feauturing. Then there's the utterly camp "Boys Boys Boys" to take your fancy, if you like, I love the "Don't forget my lipstick, I left it in your ashtray" line. It's become apparent to me that I have a thing for lines related to smoking. Lady GaGa has a talent for writing lyrics like that, to get in your head, whether it's the one I just mentioned, the 'disco stick' line, "Would you make me #1 on your playlist?" or something else. Nearly every song of hers has something to hook you in. The only exception for me would be "Summerboy" which, after multiple listens, is still hardly hummable. If this album is anything to go by, I can definitely see why people would say she could be the next Britney or even Madonna. She can sing, write, dance and has a good image. She's the full package, just like the album.
February 12, 200916 yr OMG American Boy! :o I like the song so much although it only peaked at number 2 for me. Santogold started her 5-week reign that week

I think this is one of the best duets of recent times and it spent 15 weeks in my top 10 which is a record shared with the song at #1 on this countdown. Although this only spent two weeks at #1, it spent ages in the top 3 and at the runner's up spot. When it first reached #2 it was behind Estelle's "American Boy" and by the time it reached #1 itself, the song it knocked off was Estelle's follow-up single, "No Substitute Love". It's fall from #1 was a lot quicker than it's long climb there. I obviously wasn't thinking properly when I claimed that Janet Jackson had the longest climb to it's peak in one run with "Feedback" as this easily beats that! This is everything you could want in a big ballad and Chris Brown's other similar duet with rent-a-diva Keri Hilson sounds pathetic next to this. I can't understand how anyone could prefer it. Jordin Sparks has had a good year in my chart, two songs in the year-end top 10 and both spent 22 weeks in my chart. Hopefully she has something amazing from her next album due this year. So this means the #1 is... 01. Kelly Rowland - Work (Freemasons Remix) [24-13-05-03-01-01-01-01-01-02-03-04-06-06-07-09-10-13-17-19-24-33-37-40-OUT] [24 wks.] *704* http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697268382.JPG Yes, the nicest girl from Destiny's Child, Kelly Rowland is #1. With 24 weeks, a joint record with "Valerie", on the chart it was almost inevitable. It also has the joint record of 15 weeks spent in the top 10 and holds it's own record for having the most consecutive weeks at #1, with 5. Only Estelle has had more weeks at #1, with "American Boy". This remix absolutely trounces the original which is alright but nothing special and turns it into something amazing. It seems the Freemasons can do no wrong with ex-DC members and the Knowles family. This was my stand-out track for the quiet January and February months of 2008 and I was glad that it was somewhat of a hit for her too. Thankfully the remix is at such a fast pace that it's easy to ignore the fact that she's saying we want to hear her moan, Kelly is too much of a good girl for this song. In the song she tells us to use the curves of her body for our motivation but I find that I don't need her to be present to motivate me. This song is like perfect motivation, I have found myself cleaning my room to this many a time. Hopefully Kelly gets her next album out soon with something as good as this on it. 02. Brandy - Human http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/BRANDYHUMAN.JPG Highlights: Right Here (Departed), A Capella (Something's Missing), Long Distance, Piano Man, Camouflage Least Favourite: True At #2 is an album I got for Christmas, Brandy's "Human". As this countdown has progressed it's been climbing the ranks. I knew it'd feature after just one listen but to get so high so soon shows how much I love it. The lead single "Right Here (Departed)" is immense and she sounds as good as ever on it, not charting it was one of my mistakes of the year as it would have surely been a long-runner in my chart as I'm still not bored of it. That's what no UK impact means in my chart, meaning the beautiful ballad "Long Distance" didn't do anything either. "Long Distance" is one of the biggest ballads of last year and deserved much more. One of my favourites is "A Capella (Something's Missing)" the umm...mostly acapella song, with her voice doing most of the background 'music'. I've got my favourite part of it in my signature, I think a lot of people can relate to that feeling. Speaking of lyrics I love, "Camouflage" is full of them, "these flaws I've got, they're a part of who I am, take me or not" is probably one of my most loved lyrics of the year. The lyrics shine again on "Piano Man" with "play me a song about heartache, I promise I can sing every word" being the one everyone knows and loves. When I first heard the leak of "1st & Love" I didn't think it was all that good but when I listen to it on the album it's great. It has quite a Timbaland sound to it, though he isn't the producer. There are a few weaker patches with "True" and "Shattered Heart" but I actually love each track individually. Although it doesn't look like Brandy does a lot of writing, this feels like a very personal record from her and probaly her best album yet. And so the #1 album is... 01. Estelle - Shine http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/7567899542.JPG Highlights: American Boy, No Substitute Love, Shine, Wait A Minute (Just A Touch), In The Rain Least Favourite: Back In Love I think this was always an obviousone really. I don't think there's another album in my iTunes where the least played track has 16 plays, even Beverley Knight hasn't managed it yet. I bought this, like most people probably, looking for another song like "American Boy". That didn't happen, but I found out what Estelle's normal sound was like and I had to find her debut album immediately. Each of the 12 tracks are great in fact, "Come Over" is probably in my bottom 3/5 from the album and even that made #3 in my chart. The two songs that bring this album down (if possible?) are "Back In Love" and "You Are". "Back In Love" is a nice, laid back, little number but I much prefer her more upbeat songs with her rapping over her mellow songs where she leans more towards trying to sing. "You Are" is a bit like "Back In Love", it's a bit of a mushy duet with the lovely John Legend which is a nice listen. I've already said why I love "American Boy" and "No Substitute Love", the fact that they're #3 and #4 on my singles countdown should say enough. "Come Over" and "Pretty Please (Love Me)" have also appeared on the countdown. I've grown to like the radio edit of "Come Over" more than the album version, the only difference being the addition of Sean Paul to the edit. I think he added something that was previously missing from the original. "Wait A Minute (Just A Touch)" (another collaboration, with will.i.am) was actually the first single and that somehow went over my head, most people thought it was rubbish but I loved it almost immediately. Some of the lyrics are downright laughable ("I heat it up like a toaster", "you're staring at a woman that'll slap your ass to the floor" or maybe "get your shoes on coz I'm using you") but it's part of her charm. As for song that weren't singles, "Shine" is easily the best offering there, it should have been the second or third release, it might have been a mini-hit with it's simple, yet catchy, chorus. "In The Rain" is also a highlight, it worms it's way into my head nearly everytime it rains. It's a catchy song about an affair going on between Estelle and a fictional man...in the rain? It doesn't sound good, but it is! The other three tracks are also fantastic but I've already gone on for long enough so I'll leave it there. Estelle. Shine. Best album of 2008. Yes. Woo there you go, just over a month after I started and I finally finished. I was doing this for my own satisfaction in the end. I just had to get it finished at some point. Maybe just a list and no comments next year, yeah?
February 13, 200916 yr Author OUCH! No surprise at the albums. Ouch what? The albums were never gonna be a surprise. Though Mariah Carey was at #2 for a while until Brandy's and others grew.
February 13, 200916 yr God, i really need to finish mine dont I. I will aim to finish it this time next week. Not supried at the #1 album but i am at the single. Work is vastly overated like i think i said before.

Work is vastly overated like i think i said before. Yes, you do. I thought I started late and it's taken me a month. It'll be 2010 by the time you're done. It was always going to be Estelle, it's one of my favourite albums I have. "Work" was kinda obvious too when you consider it's one of my longest runners! I might try and work out a different way to work out the singles next year though. Prediction for this year: If Beverley Knight does release, she'll be #1 in both countdowns and probably have more than one single in the top 5!
February 14, 200916 yr OUCH means i didn't think of Work at all :o  Incredible song though :D 27th place in my 2008 chart. But it could have been Top 3/5 if it was counted by points or sales.

February 14, 200916 yr Oh my the whole chart is excellent and scarily simular to mine  great top 2 albums as well excellent to see Brandy's Human so high

Unless she releases something like "Get Up!" I think she's certain to be #1 with a single and most likely the album. Oh my the whole chart is excellent and scarily simular to mine  great top 2 albums as well excellent to see Brandy's Human so high  I know. :o 3 of our top 4 are the same. If only I had "Denial" in there. I wonder if we'll manage it again this year. Brandy's album is excellent, so didn't deserve it's flop. :(
