Rihanna spent a whopping total of 129 weeks on the singles chart last year- that's around 2.5 songs in the chart every week of the year. This is close to the record set by Oasis of 134 weeks in a calender year in the 90s

She has also taken 8 singles off of an album (albeit with a deluxe re-release), is this a female record? (I believe Michael Jackson has done more with Thriller). She also appeared on a 9th single with T.I. (although not included on her album unless it is re-re-reloaded ) although only 5 were released in 2008, this could also be a female record. Comments welcome, will also post on Rihanna forum though i think being a chart record this probably should be posted here too :)

Rundown:

Umbrella 19 weeks (of total 51 by end of 2008)

Shut Up and Drive 2 (21)

Don't Stop the Music 31 (34)

Hate that i love you 8 (19)

Take a Bow 22 (22)

If i never see your face again (with Maroon 5) 11 (11)

Disturbia 24 (24)

Live Your Life (with T.I.) 7 (7)

Rehab (with Justin Timberlake) 5 (5)

Rihanna was prolific in 2008! It must be the record for a female act by some distance I would imagine. The digital age is definitely helping artists to rack up immense chart week totals.

And she's done it again! Rihanna now sets an all time record for most weeks ever on the singles chart in a calendar year, spending an incredible 202 weeks on the top75 in 2011. Occurring only 2 years after GaGa set a new record with 156/157 (depending on source), can this even be bested? Also occurring in a year where it was announced she's sold over 12mil singles overall which should currently place her in the top 5 of all time for this and close to the top 5 for the most weeks on the chart ever (only woman ahead on both counts is Madonna).

Break down of hits is as follows for this year:

Unfaithful 2 weeks

Only Girl 32 weeks

What's my Name 21 weeks (feat Drake)

S&M 31 weeks

California King Bed 16 weeks

Man Down 7 weeks

Cheers 11 weeks

We Found Love 12 weeks (feat Calvin Harris)

Talk That Talk 2 weeks (feat Jay Z)

You Da One 5 weeks

Where Have you Been 1 week

As featured artist

David Guetta Who's that Chick? 25 weeks

Nikki Minaj Fly 12 weeks

Eminem Love the Way You Lie 17 weeks

Coldplay Princess of China 2 weeks

Drake Take Care 6 weeks

Yes sadly she hasn't beaten record of 8 top 10 hits in one year and they were all solo.

Was that Madge? Intrigued now...

Whatever people think of Rihanna her ability to churn out hits is second to none. If she carrys on the way she is she should become the biggest selling singles artist in the UK ever.

I don't think Rihanna (or anyone) will ever match or beat that, unless the ways the chart is calculated changes in the near future, or Glee gets really popular next series.

Shouldn't Rihanna get the 18 Weeks from this Single too?

All Of The Lights - Kanye West & Various Artists. Rihanna was the only one of the Featured Artists to be credited.

"All of the Lights" is a song by American hip hop recording artist Kanye West, released January 18, 2011, as the fourth single from his fifth studio album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010). It was produced by West and features additional vocals from several other recording artists, including John Legend, The-Dream, Elly Jackson, Alicia Keys, Fergie, Kid Cudi, Elton John, and Rihanna, who is solely credited as a featured artist on the single.

^ That could be just in the US, since they sometimes use different crediting in different countries.

Although, it last time I checked on the OCC's website it was credited to Kanye West, Rihanna and Drake (even thought Drake isn't even on the song :drama:), so it would still count anyway if that's how it's credited here.

Elvis Presley's 17 top 10 hits in a year (all but one solo) begs to differ with that being a record :P Unless you just mean female artists.

They were all re-issues though- :D but if you insist then yes female only

I know many people, myself included, have mentioned just how solid a Rihanna 'Greatest Hits' package would be. For me, Rihanna is one of the few artists around who has continued to improve immensely over the years.
I have a feeling Rihanna will be decline with this latest album and the follow up singles won't do quite so well.

I agree, only because it's almost impossible for her (or anyone) to replicate how big she was this time last year imo.

When was the last time she wasn't in thr Top 75?

Good question tony.

W/E 5 Sep 2009.

Jesus. 2 years in the Top 75. What are the current records for this?
