Posted January 9, 200916 yr http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...15875-21028582/ Might be a bit of bias being a Liverpool fan, but I think Benitez just totally pwned Fergie. Good on Benitez as well, everything he said was spot on. Good timing too. @D
January 9, 200916 yr I think he's been planning saying this for a few years now, and now Liverpool are in the lead, Man Utd lagging behind, Rafa Benitez picked a perfect time to say that. Had he said this last year, sitting in 4th in places, it would look like he's feeling under pressure, but he's picked a perfect time, and its complete truth. Go Rafa!

Perfect timing with Manchester United having a tricky fixture against Chelski on Sunday.
January 9, 200916 yr Author I've seen various Man Utd supporters and leading people connected to football saying Benitez has lost it but I think quite the opposite. Sure he got quite nervous, but who wouldn't be? Don't think i've ever seen anyone stand up to Fergie before, publically at least. Also he didn't rise to Fergie's comments... he just produced his own portfolio on Fergie which I think was quite clever and witty, and all that he said was quite truthful. Good timing with the Chelsea game, but I also think Benitez 'took one for the team' as it were. I wonder how many people even remember Steven Gerrard being charged with ABH now?
January 9, 200916 yr I'm not Rafa's biggest fan but everything he said is spot on. He certainly isn't stupid, he knew what he was going to say, how he was going to say it and he timed it perfectly. Good on him, I say

I'd forgot it, so you've got a point.
January 9, 200916 yr Rooney, mate... let's face it, you won't win the league, we will.... it's inevitable
January 9, 200916 yr btw, what he said isn't fact like he said he says ''i don't know why United play on the 29th, when the rest of the teams play on the 28th'' OBVIOUSLY we're playing someone else, not ourselves... cock
January 9, 200916 yr Author Rooney, mate... let's face it, you won't win the league, we will.... it's inevitable I've never said Liverpool are going to win the league?! :| I think we've got a great chance and at the moment it's in our hands. I find it funny how I keep hearing on blogs and stuff that Man Utd are only 1 point behind Liverpool? Unless some Man Utd fans can suddenly see the future than they're not. The media always slate robbie Keane, and yeah, he's not been brilliant, but to call him a flop when Berbatov has completely messed up the attacking fluency of Man Utd is stupid. Also, Fergie assumes that Man Utd are gonna come good in the 2nd half of the season. Well looking back over the past couple of seasons then Liverpool have really hit 5th gear in the final half of the season. But anyway we shall see come May. No point bragging about being top of the table in January if you've not won the league. btw, what he said isn't fact like he said he says ''i don't know why United play on the 29th, when the rest of the teams play on the 28th'' OBVIOUSLY we're playing someone else, not ourselves... cock Well you've gotta remember English is his 2nd language. He obviously meant it in the right context...
January 10, 200916 yr Rafa finally clocks onto the mind-game cicuit that Fergie's been playing for decades. Only took him 5 years in English football aswell. Congrats Raf (Y) Twat.
January 10, 200916 yr Mind games, if they don't beat Stoke and we beat Chelsea this will be so LOL worthy
January 10, 200916 yr Author Mind games, if they don't beat Stoke and we beat Chelsea this will be so LOL worthy Yes exactly. If We don't beat Stoke on Saturday this will all seem a bit pointless, but i'm confident we will, and I think the Man Utd and Chelsea match will end a draw. Just seems one of those Big Four games that seems destined for a draw for me. You'd have thought that this game, everyone would be saying it's pretty much a title decider at the start of the season... but now it's all about Benitez vs Mr. Ferguson. No coverage on Chelsea at all at the moment. I kind of wish Rafa had said his piece with a Mourinho style, but Rafa's not got the same charisma as Mourinho, but he's certainly a lot more intelligent and imo this rant was is 10x better than a Mourinho rant against United (although not as funny obv).
January 10, 200916 yr This is like Keegan, and will but played back 10 years from now, aswell Funny, I can't remember Kevin Keegan winning 2 Spanish La Liga's, a European Cup & a UEFA cup as manager. But I do know that in the 2001-2 season out of the Xmas break Valencia's manager Rafa Benitez said a near identical thing about Real Madrid, when Valencia were sitting at the top of the table just ahead of Barcelona & Real Madrid after the then Real Madrid manager said that Valencia would fade as they did not have the squad and experience to handle the pressure and his captain said the title was a two horse race between them & arch rivals Barca. Guess which club ended up winning the La Liga that year for the first time in 30 years...... :D Rafa's been here before, and knows exactly what he is doing.
January 10, 200916 yr  Although what he's said was right it's really backfired on him now. That was one of the worst Liverpool displays I've ever watched, and tbh that says something. Utter $h!te. They're never going to win the league when Benayoun, Lucas, Hyypia and to an extent Kuyt, Babel and Aurelio get regular games. I said it a while ago and I'll say it again, the title is United's to lose!

January 11, 200916 yr I'd concentrate more on your tactics rather than silly publicity stunts next time Raf..
January 11, 200916 yr And not have your goalscorer on the bench :D They're just not consistant enough at the moment to win the title tbh.
January 11, 200916 yr Author today Liverpool lost the title, may aswell give us it now. The title race won't be over for a long time yet imo. I only managed to catch the last 40 minutes of the game, but Chelsea were f***ing abysmal. They were pretty poor before Deco went off, but after Deco went off they just lost all balance of play. They played with no confidence, and it's gonna be tough for them to get back into the title race now. Liverpool have a tough set of games on paper, so we'll see what happens come the middle of February, but i'm still fairly confident as Man Utd will have to beat Wigan and Bolton. Haven't seen any of the game yesterday but judging from what i've read off various forums we were awful. I disagree with RFC's comments about some of the players aren't good enough. Sure they may have not been good yesterday, but at times this season Benayoun and Lucas have been brilliant. And Hyypia is just the sex. Consistency levels aren't always there, but it's been like that for all the top teams so far this season. Never thought i'd say this at the beginning of the season but Alonso is just as important to Reina, Gerrard and Torres to our title challenge. Fergie's comments in response to Rafa's were just laughable. I was expecting something much more witty, so either he just didn't know what to say, or he's been on the whisky too much.
