This was just an idea I had, using a points system take the weeks top 100 singles and top 100 albums and see who is the most successful artist as far as having singles and albums in the charts goes - points being 100 for no.1 and 1 point for no.100

If a single is done by 2 artists (eg. Broken Strings) because James Morrison has an album in the album chart both he and Nelly Furtado get 96 points (being no.5 in the singles chart). However if it is the only time both artists appear (eg. Wiley ft. Daniel Merriweather) then they stick as one.

In the event of a tie in points it is the artist with the highest chart position that will be placed first, if the chart position is the same it is the artist on the singles chart that will be placed above the artist on the album chart.

I'll do a Top 40 because after that there are a lot of ties.

01 - Take That - 370

02 - Rihanna - 352

03 - Beyonce - 343

04 - Girls Aloud - 334

05 - Kings Of Leon - 313

16 - Jason Mraz - 206

17 - Saturdays - 184

18 - N-Dubz - 182

the points they had.

Wherever an artist ends up in either the singles or the album chart they get points, as i am basing it on the top 100, the artist at no.1 will get 100 points, no2. 99 points and so on all the way down to 1 point for no.100

Because some artists have more than one song/album in the charts they get points for each song/album for example Take That appear 7 times in total (4 times in the singles chart and 3 times in the album chart)

SINGLES - Greatest Day - no.10 (91 points), Rule The World - no.45 (56 points), Shine - no. 82 (19 points), Patience - no.90 (11 points)

ALBUMS - Circus - no.1 (100 points), Beautiful World - no.30 (71 points), Never Forget - no.79 (22 points)

All add up to 370 making Take That the most successful on a points system

Hope that makes it a little clearer

Like the old "A" List Chart, then! Which was cancelled. It came from the Heart Radio Stations of course, and was axed about a year ago. You could do it weekly, under the heading "A salute to the defunct A List Chart". Someone might notice the connection, you see...like I did!

I distinctly remember Radio 1 having a chart like this in the early 1990s on Jackie Brambles lunchtime show, with single sales counting as 1 unit, album sales counting as 2 units & any duets/collaborations had their points split accordingly.

Hmm... seems like it'll be biased towards artists that do a lot of collaborations, to me.
I really like this idea. You're right what you say about the bias, vidcapper, but that just means other artists should do more collaborations

I might just do that - thanks for the idea

Yeah, it's a good idea as it represents very well what people are listening to.
