January 28, 200916 yr It was a poll for NME magazine. Regardless, Kelly will have bigger sales. Not first-week, but when all is said-and-done. Anyway, this is officially #1 in the US now. Clearly she's back.
January 28, 200916 yr Not a big fan of the video, she's definetly had better. :( Still love the song however and she really does deserve a #01 :D
January 28, 200916 yr U2 will obviously sell much more? People need to get some perspective outside of BJ. I speak in terms of the UK btw...
January 28, 200916 yr U2 will definitely trounce her in the first week, no doubt about it. I don't think it's impossible that in terms of long-term sales that she could beat them though...
January 28, 200916 yr It depends surely? U2 usually have a big lead single and a reasonable second one whereas Kelly doesn't have a 'usual', but she milked Breakaway. If the same happened with here, she'd sell more. And globally she'll certainly sell more.
January 28, 200916 yr Author U2 will do better in the UK. Just for the fact it's U2. I never said they wouldn't... But Kelly's comeback is bigger than alot of people on here realise! Not U2 big or anything, but she's still going to be like, 'Breakaway' big IMO. Edited January 28, 200916 yr by Hand-Jon

January 28, 200916 yr i starting to think this song is alright, but it's a bit too much like Since U Been Gone for my liking.
January 28, 200916 yr Apart from U2's New single - Which has 2 versions on itunes... Hmmm.... I don't think U2 can get number 1 there, they need to be heard on the radio and sell 250K to be number 1... or 300K and no much airplay... DONT think they have a chance... in the US they only play rap, hip hop and pop. p.s and when the u2 song (baaaaaaaaad song and I love them) officially released? January 29, 200916 yr Sounds like a short not much longevity yet I read some posts of people loving to play it again and again. So a bit tough. Perhaps some will like it for a long time while for others a few listens is enough. Guessing Top5 but could be #1.
January 29, 200916 yr U2 will be no1 after Lily Allen here but then I think Clarkson will do it unless anything else comes out that's big enough. I still love it. I love the over dramatised, angsty, gut wrenching lyrics she has in her tracks. She's no Depeche Mode or Metallica or other such 'cool' act but she definately rates high in my book. I am very excited for her new album :D
January 29, 200916 yr U2 will be no1 after Lily Allen here but then I think Clarkson will do it unless anything else comes out that's big enough. I think U2 will stun a lot of people and stay at the top until Comic Relief. Vertigo spent 8 weeks at No1 on the download chart in the fall of 2005. While their collaboration with Green Day ‘The Saints Are Coming’ spent nearly 2 weeks at No1 on iTunes the following year it’s run only ended then when it was deleted. Now that download sales make up 95% of the market I think they’ll turn their astonishing download power into this years surprise long running No1!

Vertigo was tremendously well received. Whilst they were praised for their cover with Green Day of the new wave The Skids classic. However their forthcoming single has met with comfortably the poorest reviews for a lead track from a U2 album since Discotheque if not even worse. Whilst its early performance on the US iTunes chart compared to the aforementioned tracks previously if repeated in the UK strongly suggest it could very well struggle to spend a week at #1, nevermind see off the US record breaking comeback single by Kelly Clarkson afterwards.

Oh you never know, when it comes to the reckoning it’s a distinct possibility that you could very well be surprised or even dare I say stunned at U2’s chart performance. I’ll quite happily stand corrected if the scenario you have outlined above comes to pass. ^_^ Any move away from their Joshua Tree revival back to a more experimental phase was always going to disappoint some. The fact they are 20 odd year veterans will preclude them from scaling the heights of critical acclaim in some quarters of the current music press. However ‘Get On Your Boots’ has received a plethora of excellent reviews from the more discerning quarters of the media. It is arguably very much in the same vein as Vertigo and not such a radical departure from what has gone before as Discotheque was in 1997. It’s worth pointing out that while Discotheque may not have been one of their most highly regarded singles, it did however turn out to be the fastest selling single of their career. I don’t think a U2 single of any level of critical acclaim is seriously expected to top the US charts in the current musical climate over there. While a Max Martin/Dr Luke production specifically designed to top the US charts and thrust Kelly back into the spotlight after a very brief comparitive career nadir would have been seen as a major failure had it fallen short. The glorious unpredictability of our charts may well throw the form guide out of the window as it has done countless times in the past. U2’s download sales have been to date impressively dominant and this is the first time they have an opportunity to capitalise on a download-dominated market… There are certainly some very interesting weeks of chart watching ahead. :) Edited January 30, 200916 yr by Ethan.
January 30, 200916 yr  Hey! I bought Discotheque on the day of it's release! :P I'm incredibly underwhelmed by their latest offering though :( Since hearing it twice in the space of few hours on Radio 1, I've not heard Kelly's new single again. It needs to pick up a heck of a lot more airplay if it's going to achieve anything like the number 1 position that so many here seem certain of.
