Mariah Carey's new album will be released in the UK next month, her label has confirmed.

Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, which debuted at number three on the US albums chart last week, will be released on Mercury Records on November 16.

It will be preceded by Carey's new single - a cover of Foreigner's 'I Want To Know What Love Is' - on October 26.

The UK version of Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel will comprise two discs - one featuring 17 new tracks, the other containing remixes of her recent US hit 'Obsessed'.

With the exception of 'I Want To Know What Love Is', Carey has written and produced the entire album with production duo The-Dream and Tricky Stewart.

Falls to #6 in the USA on sales of just under 54k. Poor Mariah, don't know if this will pick up.

What I found interesting is that "Betcha Gon' Know" is at #1 on the Bubbling Under bit and was #3 last week. Seems to be quite consistent for an album track and I'm glad to know it wasn't among the highlights for me only.

BGK has high downloads, but all the experts don't know from what oulet cause the song is not featured on the itunes top 300 songs or on amazon downloads.. its very strange..

I wouldn't worry for the album, i think it'll sell 500.000+ in the end.

There must be some deal or something with the first song on an album, I remember Ciaras "Ciara To The Stage" was downloaded loads on the first week, like it was a weak song with no promotion but it was the first on the album it just seemed like something about that.

500k is all good and well... For Christina Milian or someone! Selling 500k for Mariah is unthinkable and her worst selling album by 500k. I really like (not love, really like) the album, it's very personal and definitely some of her best lyrics but it's just not commercial enough. End of story. We'll see how things go, i'm not holding my breath like... I'm dreading how this is gonna go in the UK. She should have waited as Geriboy said. I'm glad we got another album so quickly as all fans are, but realistically after the relevant floppage of E=MC2 she should've backed off for at LEAST 2 years and then came back with another stormer Mimi style.

I think she needs to stop trying to recreate her former glories, this seems to be where she's going wrong. If you look - Mimi did amazingly well because it was something different and fresh from Mariah. E=MC2 flopped because she basically tried to re-create Mimi (and while I LOVE E=MC2), it didn't strike well because it was pretty much Mimi Part 2. So she noticed that didn't work, and then tried to re-create Butterfly, which again, was nice because the fans relate to Mariahs personal life, but Butterfly was so special because that was a huge turning point in her life and about her coming into her own as an artist which is what caught people. Whereas Memoirs is very much based on her life now, which is all good and well (i'm thrilled she's happy), but hasn't connected in the same way at all. Butterfly was deep, personal, meaningful whilst being commercial at the same time and Memoirs hasn't seemed to manage handling the two.

My 2 cents. :P

Ok, I'm really gonna backtrack here. After listen upon listen upon listen it's beginning to all fit into place. I felt the same with Butterfly, I hated Butterfly, thought it was just one big bland snoozefest but something clicked and it's now my fave Mariah album :D  Memoirs is heading in that direction - it's the deep introspective, personal lyrics and beats they suddenly capture you.

It's by no means commercial - all we can hope is that people buy it cos of Obsessed and Know What Love Is ;)

Anyway, loving: Betcha Gon' Know (love - 'u ok, I'm like mm alright' ), H.A.T.E.U, Up Out My Face, Ribbon (can't get this out my head!!) and old school Languishing. But standout is by far Angels Cry - that and Know What Love Is are 2 of the best Mariah tracks in years - absolutely perfect and stunning, make me wanna cry, they're just

I love how this follows the old Mariah style of:

1 cover version (Open Arms, without you, Beautiful Ones, Against All Odds, Bringin On The Heartbreak) Know What Love Is

A song about being insecure (Outside, Close My Eyes, Petals, Sunflowers) Languishing

A killer 1st single (Fantasy, Honey) Obsessed

She's back on track for me :-)

quick q: I always think Janet's are very boring, but never perservere like I do with Mariah - do they 'click' too??

Thanks to whoever changed the topic description. :P

I am waiting for the UK release, hence no comments from me on this album.

  • 3 weeks later...

UK promo has been announced! She's taping performances for X Factor, GMTV and This Morning on Nov 12th and Alan Carr on Nov 14th. No word on their actual airdates yet, or which songs she's doing.

I imagine that GMTV and This Morning (at least) will be mimed because she's doing Italian X Factor the previous day and we all know how she insists on resting her voice usually. Hopefully X Factor is (partially) live though.

Just read in my magazine that she'll be performing on 'Strictly' :D even more promo. :o
Let's hope X Factor can help the album and "I Want To Know What Love Is", at least more than it helped "I Stay In Love" last year. ^_^
Release date has been pushed back again to November 23rd. I'm starting to think if we will even get a release at this rate. :(

^ She's supposedly on X Factor next Sunday, so that would be the best time to release her album.

If she is on X Factor (recording her performance on Sunday) then it will be interesting to see the affect it has!

Like you said Aidan, I hope it is better than what it did for ISIL :P

Another week to wait for new Mariah material, hope it is worth waiting for.
At long last! I'm not buying the CD just yet since it's being re-released at some point but I have bought the Jump Smokers remix of Obsessed (which will count towards the original's chart position) :D
really hope she does alright over here with the album!
