Funny to see the hugely hyped The Spirit out of the top 10 already, I can only presume it wasn't very good... :teresa: The Top Film dvds: Compiled by DTR, based on sales and rentals 01 NE PINEAPPLE EXPRESS 02 01 DARK KNIGHT 03 02 MAMMA MIA 04 NE SOMERS TOWN 05 05 WALL.E 06 03 HANCOCK 07 04 IRON MAN 08 NE THE CREW 09 09 THE STRANGERS 10 11 SEX AND THE CITY Nice to see two of my favourite films holding in the top five (guess which!) Dave sez: "Dare I say the ghastly Celebrity Big Brother is at 17 with 5.90.. .Nearly 6million people need urgent help, then!!" Then again he likes My Family ;) The Top Albums: w/k ending 21st Jan 2008 01 07 THE SCRIPT - SCRIPT 02 01 ONLY BY THE NIGHT - KINGS OF LEON 03 NE FAME - LADY GAGA 04 03 ROCKFERRY - DUFFY 05 12 SONGS FOR YOU TRUTHS FOR ME - JAMES MORRISON 06 02 CIRCUS - TAKE THAT 07 04 SPIRIT - LEONA LEWIS 08 08 MAMMA MIA - OST 09 11 I AM SASHA FIERCE - BEYONCE KNOWLES 10 05 DAY AND AGE - KILLERS 11 13 WE STARTED NOTHING - TING TINGS 12 06 ORACULAR SPECTACULAR - MGMT 13 29 WE SING WE DANCE WE STEAL THINGS - JASON MRAZ 14 14 SOUND OF - GIRLS ALOUD 15 22 MOTOWN 50 - VARIOUS 16 09 NOW 71 - VARIOUS 17 17 CLUBBERS GUIDE 09 - VARIOUS 18 21 GOOD GIRL GONE BAD - RIHANNA 19 10 A DECADE IN THE SUN - STEREOPHONICS 20 18 ANTHEMS 2 91-08 - VARIOUS 21 NE NOW 1 25TH ANNIVERSARY LIMITED EDITION - VARIOUS 22 24 FUNHOUSE - PINK 23 27 FLEET FOXES 24 15 SELDOM SEEN KID - ELBOW 25 43 CHASING LIGHTS - SATURDAYS 26 19 ONE OF THE BOYS - KATY PERRY 27 23 YEAR OF THE GENTLEMAN - NE-YO 28 25 FREEDOM - AKON 29 16 OUT OF CONTROL - GIRLS ALOUD 30 35 808s AND HEARTBREAKS - KANYE WEST Some good news for some great albums there. Some people are calling Lady Gaga a flop, but I think straight in in the top 3 is pretty good in these times of stock problems and slow sales! Mega flashback time with Now 1 back in at a somewhat lowly number 21 (although it is just outside the top 5 on compilations). It is time to Flashback...to January 1993: The charts compiled by MRIB for Independent Radio The Singles: 01 01 I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU - WHITNEY 02 02 EXTERMINATE - SNAP 03 06 THE LOVE I LOST - WESTEND/SYBIL 04 03 EASY - FAITH NO MORE 05 07 WE ARE FAMILY 93 - SISTER SLEDGE 06 NE ORDINARY WORLD - DURAN DURAN 07 NE NO LIMIT - 2UNLIMITED 08 17 SWEET HARMONY - THE BELOVED 09 04 MR WENDAL - ARRESTED DEVELOPEMENT 10 05 COULD IT BE MAGIC - TAKE THAT 11 18 BED OF ROSES - BON JOVI 12 19OPEN YOUR MIND - USURA 13 09 STEAM - PETER GABRIEL 14 NE INDEPENDANCE - LULU 15 16 WHAT YOU WON`T DO FOR LOVE - GO WEST 16 NE DEEP - EAST 17 17 NE HEAVEN IS - DEF LEPPARD 18 RE SHE SELLS SANCTUARY - THE CULT 19 08 HEAL THE WORLD - MICHAEL JACKSON 20 NE IF I CAN`T CHANGE YOUR MIND - SUGAR 21 15 WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG - DEL AMITRY 22 20 ARRANGED MARRIAGE - APACHE INDIAN 23 14 FOREVER PEOPLE - SHAMEN 24 11 WOULD I LIE TO YOU - CHARLES AND EDDIE 25 NE START CHOPPIN` - DINOSAUR JNR 26 26 HOPE OF DELIVERANCE - PAUL MCCARTNEY 27 10 AFTER ALL - FRANK AND WALTERS 28 23 LOVELY DAY - SOUL SYSTEM 29 NE LOVE MAKES NO SENSE - ALEXANDER O`NEAL 30 39 OPEN SESAME - LEILA K. 31 13 DOGS OF LUST (THE HEAT IS RISING) - THE THE 32 NE HIP HOP HURRAY - NAUGHTY BY NATURE 33 25 STEP IT UP - STEREO MCs 34 43 LOVE ME THE RIGHT WAY - RAPINATION 35 NE SOFT TOP HARD SHOULDER - CHRIS REA 36 NE REVIVAL - MARTYNE GIRAULT 37 40 MUSIC - FARGETTA/ANNE MARIE SMITH 38 12 DEVIL YOU KNOW - JESUS JONES 39 NE THINGS CAN ONLY GET BETTER - D:REAM 40 NE I WANNA BE IN LOVE - BEJING SPRING 41 29 SOMEDAY - LISA STANSFIELD 42 21 WOMANKIND - LITTLE ANGELS 43 22 WOULD - ALICE IN CHAINS 44 28 GIVE IT UP-TURN IT LOOSE - EN VOGUE 45 24 GET THE GIRL KILL THE BADDIES (GOT A REASON) - POP WILL EAT ITSELF 46 33 OUT OF SPACE - PRODIGY 47 NE PHOTOGRAPH OF MARY - TREY LORENZ 48 41 FEED THE TREE - BELLY 49 NE WE SAIL ON THE STORMY WATERS - GARY CLARK 50 27 BROKEN ENGLISH - SUNSCREAM Not too many differences from the official chart there. In fact, 1993 was the last year that Independant Radio used the MRIB Charts. At that point Airplay was very low at 10%. ANyway, Whitney at number one for the umpteenth week, with another umpteen to come, Snap are serious as... Daleks at number 2, future classics from Duran Duran and, erm, 2 Unlimited making top 10 debuts, Beloved peaking at the same position as on the official charts with the gorgeous Sweet Harmony (though their best remembered song, trance classic The Sun Rising only peaked at 26!) Lulu gets her first original UK hit in 12 years with the boom bang a bangin' Independence. East 17 get Deep a few years before Brian Harvey got them into deep trouble in the press (hence the change of name to E17!) Def Leppard, The Cult and Dinasour Jnr are rocking out in the top 30. Alexander O'Neal doing something more soulful, but all they want to do is criticize... Naughty By Nature taking us back to the Daisy Age at 32, Chris Rea on a road to the top 40 too. New Labour was just a glint in Neil Kinnock's eye when THings Can Only Get Better entered for D:ream for the first time. Good group actually that had several more top 20 hits, including the originally more popular U R The Best Thing. A lot of covers and remakes here. West End and the unjustly forgotten Sybil remake Howard Melvin and The Bluenotes, Sister Sledge are still family and still climbing, Take That slipping, but enjoyed their biggest hit up until that point with a cover version of Barry Manilow (or the superb Donna Summer), Go West cover Bobby Caldwell (the version sampled by Tupac on Due For Love), Soul System sample Bill Withers and make a day of it, and probably the most obscure, The Prodigy's rave anthem Out Of Space samples I Chase The Devil by Max Romeo (responsible for the naughty reggae classic Wet Dream) and Critical Beatdown by the Ultramagnetic MCs. The top albums in Jan 1993: 01 01 THE BODYGUARD - OST 02 02 LIVE-THE WAY WE WALK VOL. 2 THE LONGS - GENESIS 03 07 CONNECTED - STEREO MCs 04 06 AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE - R.E.M. 05 14 3 YEARS 5 MONTHS, AND 2 DAYS IN THE LIFE - ARRESTED DEVELOPEMENT 06 03 GREATEST HITS 1965-1992 - CHER 07 04 BOSS DRUM - SHAMEN 08 05 TAKE THAT AND PARTY - TAKE THAT 09 NE SO CLOSE - DINA CARROLL 10 08 POP! GENESIS 2 albums VOL 1 THE SHORTS featured the trio`s short in concert numbers, and THE LONGS VOL. 2 featured the extended songs. Stereo MCs getting Connected long before the Carphone Warehouse, it was walkie talkies from Tandy in those days... DINA CARROLL was the voice on the QUARTZ "Its Too Late" in 1991...a reworking of CAROLE KING`S 1971 top ten smash. Erasure compile their first twenty hits, and the next volume, Complete Pop, is released next month. Cathy Dennis went from briefly shining pop starlet to legendary writer for all the other pop stars and starlets, responsible for Can't Get You Out Of My Head for Kylie and Sweet Dreams My LA Ex for Rachel Stevens among many others. ABBA still on their original top 20 run of their classic hits album Gold  Coming soon...The top pre-orders and Brand New Up To Minute Singles Chart!

January 16, 200916 yr Thanks for these, one of my favourite threads. Hopefully GA can stick it! :cheer:
January 16, 200916 yr Author Thanks for these, one of my favourite threads. Hopefully GA can stick it! :cheer: Thanks :D Fingers crossed. I think I can actually see them climbing at the weekend.
January 16, 200916 yr Author Interestingly, I just noticed that Britney - Circus, Alesha - Breathe Slow and Pink - Sober are exacctly where their previous singles were on the official chart last sunday!
January 16, 200916 yr Cheers Tom. Woah @ Take That’s fall – looks like the January clearout is finally underway. Surprised Poker Face isn’t charting a bit higher as it’s been top20 on iTunes for a while now.
January 16, 200916 yr Author Cheers Tom. Woah @ Take That’s fall – looks like the January clearout is finally underway. Surprised Poker Face isn’t charting a bit higher as it’s been top20 on iTunes for a while now. No problem. I think you're right about the January clearout. The close of Woolies last week speeded it up dramatically, with artists like Rhydian and Same Difference's albums plummeting out of the top 100. As for Poker Face, persoanlly I love it, so I wish it was higher, but I presume that the iTunes demographic is such that it sells more there than on other sites. Younger I guess. And more up-to-date/trendy/wannabe-ish
January 16, 200916 yr 10 29 LOVING KIND - GIRLS ALOUD :cheer: Edited January 16, 200916 yr by Robintime11
January 16, 200916 yr East 17 get Deep a few years before Tony Mortimer got them into deep trouble in the press (hence the change of name to E17!) I think that was Brian Harvey not Tony Mortimer. Top work, thanks for posting :)
January 16, 200916 yr Good work, Tom. Lady GaGa sold 2.8K physicals to rank at #2 on the physical chart last week. I highly doubt that GA sold more than 3K physicals this week. Edited January 16, 200916 yr by Pikachu Mandinka
January 16, 200916 yr Interestingly, I just noticed that Britney - Circus, Alesha - Breathe Slow and Pink - Sober are exacctly where their previous singles were on the official chart last sunday! how bizarre! I wonder if it'll be the same come sunday
January 16, 200916 yr Big rise for Circus single, #3 in Pre-Order, amazing! Will be another her top 3 hit or #1. (hope so)
January 16, 200916 yr Author I think that was Brian Harvey not Tony Mortimer. Top work, thanks for posting :) Glad you enjoyed Mark. And you're right, corrected I thought I'd flopped for a minute, but I guess it just took people a while to catch on, like with Jason Mraz  Cheers too Pikachu. Dave and his team are still responsible for the compilation by the way, so I don't have any more data then given, but I wrote the commentary :) No problem Rob too :)
January 16, 200916 yr Great! Glad you've carried this thread for the week, its a great read. Nice to see Lily is top pre-oder! :)
January 16, 200916 yr Author No prob Robot :) Yep, I think Lily will definitely be top 5 in two Sundays time, maybe top 3, maybe more? :)
January 16, 200916 yr i for one will be shocked if lily isnt number one for at least 2 weeks with fear! So am i right in thiniking that although its physically not out for 2 weeks you can download it digitally next week? Or is she leaving that for 2 weeks too?
January 16, 200916 yr Author Not sure. But I would expect it's out next week for download, since it's already charting in Ireland...
January 16, 200916 yr I can't believe Alexandra Burke is still #1 on physicals Thanks for posting Tom.
January 16, 200916 yr I can't believe Alexandra Burke is still #1 on physicals 5 weeks at No1 on the physical singles chart must be the longest run at the top for months? Usually theres a new No1 every week.
