January 26, 200916 yr Author http://www.hotpress.com/news/5225641.html Ireland leads the way with new U2 album 26 Jan 2009 U2's new single 'Get On Your Boots' has shot straight to No.1 in the Irish airplay charts. The single – the first from the band's hugely anticipated No Line On The Horizon album – has already been greeted with widespread critical acclaim, significantly raising expectations for what is destined to be one of the year's big records. Originally titled 'Sexy Boots' the track is a thoroughly contemporary, intense electro grunge exercise, with Adam Clayton's powerful bass to the fore, which mixes hip hop influences with shades of the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and The Beatles. "We came up with 'Sexy Boots', and everyone got very excited by the idea and we pursued it, but in the end we just thought it was a bit limiting, and so we took it in another direction. That's the way it often happens with U2," Edge told Hot Press. Edge also waxed lyrical about the video for the single, made by French director Alex Courtes, who was also responsible for the video for 'City Of Blinding Lights'. "It's based around the idea that men have f***ed things up so badly, politically, economically and socially that it's really time we handed things over to women. We had our doubts when we saw a rough cut – but the finished video is brilliant. He's really nailed it." Officially due for release as a digital download on February 15, the track was made available on iTunes on the same day as Dave Fanning gave it its worldwide premiere on the Colm and Jim Jim Show on 2fm. "'Get On Your Boots' is a great opening salvo from what is a brilliant album," Hot Press editor Niall Stokes commented. "No Line On The Horizon is a huge record, full of big songs, powerful riffs and superb musicianship. It's more musically diverse that any U2 album since Rattle And Hum, mixing hard rock, psychedelia, pop, electronica, dance, folk, country, spiritual music and orchestral shadings in what is a fantastically heady brew. It will certainly challenge U2 fans, but my guess is that they'll ultimately be inspired. It's going to be a massive record. I can't wait to hear the songs live." The single has also won the approval of radio in the UK, where it is currently at No.6 on the airplay charts. No Line On The Horizon is released on February 27 in Ireland and March 3 in the US.
January 27, 200916 yr ^^ U2 / Electronica? Now that's one thing I NEVER thought would happen!
February 6, 200916 yr Author I have gone from liking this song to loving it :yahoo:
February 6, 200916 yr I don't understand how people DON'T love Get On Your Boots! :o I think it's fantastic - especially love the 'sexy boots' parts. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones to like it! :heehee: It's deffo a grower! :w00t:
February 17, 200916 yr I have to admitt as much as people are bashing this song and saying its going to flop etc, they probably have listened to it for like 30 seconds and labelled it as $h!t. Where I lurv it <3 it does take a bit like y'all said to grow butttt I think a better idea wouldve been releasing the Crookers remix of it, even more amaze than original imo ;o Viva la U2. .!
February 18, 200916 yr What did everyone think of the BRITS performance? It was pretty much the exact same as the Grammy's which was annoying, and after hearing the amazing album, I just want the public to hear the great songs off it, and not the worst. And I do like 'Boots', but live it just sounds like too much of a mess, well the chorus anyway. The guitar riffs were great though and I like the verses. They performed it very well though, but it just did'nt blow me away the vay U2 live usually do. I think by the time the tour comes, they will do something different with it and it will sound great live then.
February 19, 200916 yr i dont like the new song at all i think its one of their worsts singles ever,,they performed well on the brits its just the song isnt great,,im sure there is so so much better on the album so i look forward to that
February 19, 200916 yr The performance was really weak IMO. Which is probably why Kings Of Leon are doing better than GOYB even with a single that's been around for 22 weeks, Use Somebody was flawless. But I'm still hoping GOYB recovers from its current midweek (#11) to top 3 at least, it really doesn't deserve to be remembered as a flop =( Edited February 19, 200916 yr by ٠Kath٠
February 19, 200916 yr Author There are indeed much better songs on the new album (allegedly :P ). Strange choice for a lead single
February 20, 200916 yr I still think it's a song in search of a chorus   Yes, that for sure.

I will receive a copy made of the Brits this week hopefully ( it's been taped for me innit <33 ) I'll let ya know what I think of it once I watched it. For some reason Get on your boots reminds me of The Romantics song What I like about you  It's something with the verse and the way they sing it in the beginning. Real silly cause the songs aren't alike at all.
February 22, 200916 yr new at number 12 this week and its a fair enough position as it doesnt deserve a top 10 placing
February 22, 200916 yr Well compared to the rest of U2 singles, I'd agree, but considering how appauling the charts are, I think it deserved top 10. It is a shame that this has broken their string of #1 for lead singles for the past 17 years (not including Numb). The performance at the Echo awards was the best yet.
February 27, 200916 yr Author Get On Your Boots is straight in at Number 1 on the Scottish Singles Chart this week. Just goes to show how different music taste is up here than in England. And how much more popular U2 are up here than in England. But I've said all that before. Which is why I can never get blooming tickets for a U2 concert. :(
