January 22, 200916 yr a few comments... 1 The Pretenders - Brass In Pocket... excellent song and it was a nice surprise when it reached #1 2 The Specials - Too Much Too Young (The Special AKA Live! EP)... brilliant record, I can still picture the cover now 3 Billy Preston & Syreeta - With You I'm Born Again :puke2: 4 Madness - My Girl... the first big hit for Madness, good song 5 The Nolans - I'm In The Mood For Dancing :puke2: 6 KC & The Sunshine Band - Please Don't Go :puke2: 7 Styx -Babe :puke2: a US number one that sounded dreadful 8 Joe Jackson - It's Different For Girls ... I remember having to pay 80p for this record when I bought it, my local Woolies had just increased the prices from 75p! 9 Booker T & The MGs -Green Onions 10 Dollar - I Wanna Hold Your Hand :puke2: 11 Dr Hook - Better Love Next Time :puke2: 12 The Beat - Tears Of A Clown / Ranking Full Stop... another 2 Tone single and another great song 13 The Clash - London Calling I love this song but never got around to actually buying it 14 Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall  I detested this song at the time, thought it was a song for thickos. I don't mind it these days. 15 The Regents - 7 Teen and they sang "a permamnent reaction" on TOTP but they certainly didn't on the single! 16 Jon & Vangelis - I Hear You Now :puke2: 17 Kenny Rogers - Coward Of The County :puke2: and I bought this for my mum, for Mother's Day 18 Abba - I Have A Dream :puke2: 19 The Bee Gees - Spirits (Having Flown) I loved this song at the time, a bit of a belated release as the last single released from the album was some 8 months previous 20 Sheila & B Devotion - Spacer  I still have this on 12". Such a brilliant song. 21 Azymuth - Jazz Carnival -_- a bit bland 22 Positive Force - We Got The Funk used to have this, good party song 23 The Boomtown Rats - Someone's Looking At You better than Mondays or Diamond Smiles 24 New Musik - Living By Numbers had this on 10" vinyl. Great song but the band look like furniture removal men or something! 25 Rose Royce - Is It Love You're After :puke2: S Express took the only good bit of the song and made something better out of it 26 Matchbox - Buzz Buzz A Diddle It :puke2: :puke2: :puke2: 27 Kool & The Gang - Too Hot :) OK 28 Rupert Holmes - Escape (The Pina Colada Song) :) another US number one, not too bad 29 The Sugarhill Gang - Rapper's Delight the longer version on the 12" was 15 minutes long but what a song! 30 The Tourists - I Only Want To Be With You -_- OK 31 Fiddler's Dram - Day Trip To Bangor :puke2: 32 Sad Cafe - Strange Little Girl -_- OK 33 Sister Sledge - I've Got To Love Somebody :puke2: one song too many for the Chic gang 34 The Skids - Working For The Yankee Dollar great song 35 Fleetwood Mac - Sarah I loved this song 36 Amii Stewart - Paradise Bird / The Letter :puke2: 37 Suzi Quatro - Mama's Boy :( boring 38 UFO - Young Blood :puke2: 39 The Buggles - Living In The Plastic Age :) OK song 40 Chic - My Feet Keep Dancing "my mama said my brains were in my feet". Excellent song and Chic's last top 40 hit, save a 1987 remix.

January 22, 200916 yr mushy - which Rachel Stevens song samples Spacer? Alcazar sampled it on "Crying At The Discoteque" and reached #13 in December 2001.
January 22, 200916 yr 1 The Pretenders - Brass In Pocket... classic 3 Billy Preston & Syreeta - With You I'm Born Again... you'd never know this was Motown would you? The label REALLY went downhill in the 80s :( 5 The Nolans - I'm In The Mood For Dancing... love 'em  :heehee:  Biggest selling western act in Japan EVER, you know? 6 KC & The Sunshine Band - Please Don't Go... not their best, but definitely better than Basshunter's version! 9 Booker T & The MGs -Green Onions... why was this in the charts in 1980? Mod revival I guess... classic Southern soul jam 10 Dollar - I Wanna Hold Your Hand... I liked them better with Trever Horn 12 The Beat - Tears Of A Clown / Ranking Full Stop... I actually always thought it was a really terrible version... 13 The Clash - London Calling... absolute classic again :) 14 Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall... ditto 18 ABBA - I Have A Dream... my least favourite ABBA single. The Spanish version Estoy Sonando is good though (and the Westlife version is OK, for the first time ever!) 20 Sheila & B Devotion - Spacer... amazing Chic-produced French disco. Daft Punk have nothing on this. 24 New Musik - Living By Numbers... good band. Can't remember this song off hand though. Tony Mansfield = LEGEND. 29 The Sugarhill Gang - Rapper's Delight... first rap song, although in a way it's more disco... good anyway 30 The Tourists - I Only Want To Be With You... Not a patch on Dusty but it did show early promise from Dave and Annie... 33 Sister Sledge - I've Got To Love Somebody... great group, but I don't remember this at all... 35 Fleetwood Mac - Sarah... as above... 39 The Buggles - Living In The Plastic Age... Trevor Horn = GENIUS. This wasn't bad. 40 Chic - My Feet Keep Dancing... as 33/35!
January 22, 200916 yr Author mushy - which Rachel Stevens song samples Spacer? Alcazar sampled it on "Crying At The Discoteque" and reached #13 in December 2001. ooops.... you are correct, it was 'more more more' by andrea true connection that the stevens bint covered.. :)
January 23, 200916 yr What a great chart full of variety and diverse genres of music. A far cry from today's charts... (goes into old git patronising mode) it makes me feel sorry for teenagers today .... I like: 1 The Pretenders - Brass In Pocket 2 The Specials - Too Much Too Young (The Special AKA Live! EP) - I'm so pleased they are coming back in 2009. Terry Hall is criminally underrated as a singer/songwriter. T6fkHZzlFUA 3 Billy Preston & Syreeta - With You I'm Born Again 4 Madness - My Girl 6 KC & The Sunshine Band - Please Don't Go 8 Joe Jackson - It's Different For Girls 12 The Beat - Tears Of A Clown / Ranking Full Stop 13 The Clash - London Calling - The late Lily Allen's godfather's most famous tune. Although I always preferred Mick Jones' compositions. Then again I prefer McCartney to Lennon... MqO1b-5RsAs 14 Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall 15 The Regents - 7 Teen 16 Jon & Vangelis - I Hear You Now 17 Kenny Rogers - Coward Of The County 18 Abba - I Have A Dream 19 The Bee Gees - Spirits (Having Flown) - I don't care how uncool this track is, I just love it as it is an immense tune. No wonder I like Take That & Gary Barlow today.... aYTGQ7lFVBw 20 Sheila & B Devotion - Spacer 29 The Sugarhill Gang - Rapper's Delight 30 The Tourists - I Only Want To Be With You 34 The Skids - Working For The Yankee Dollar 35 Fleetwood Mac - Sarah 39 The Buggles - Living In The Plastic Age 40 Chic - My Feet Keep Dancing
