Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas has confirmed that he is working on a movie adaptation of the cult show.

The series, which starred Kristen Bell as a student who moonlights as a private investigator, ran from 2004 until 2007.

Thomas told iFMagazine that a Veronica movie would be his "next project" and hinted that The Matrix producer Joel Silver had already expressed an interest in greenlighting the project.

"My writing the movie is half the battle. Someone else has to pay for it," he said. "Joel Silver does have a certain pile of money. He called on me saying 'Can we do this now?' Kristen wants to do it. Joel wants to do it and I want to do it. For me, that’s the next project."

When pressed about a possible plot, Thomas admitted that it was "70% broken in my head", but refused to divulge any details, saying: "I’m feeling like I’m on the right track now. But I don’t want to give that away yet."

However, he did reveal what fans should not expect to see: "I know we did that F.B.I. 'what if' thing, but we would not go to that place. I think it would open just days before the Hearst College Graduation. So Veronica would be sort of at the end of her college career."

Sooooo glad that this might be happening. I never saw the series but i really wanted to and i know they have been battling to get a film made and ive been backing it all the way so i hope it does get the greenlight :yahoo:

You never saw the series?! :o

You've been missing one of the best TV shows ever.

Seriously.

It's my second favourite show after OTH.

It's immense.

I really really hope this happens.

It's so adaptable, I'm sure it'd be a box office hit.

Especially since Kristen's a pretty big name now.

I, too, am overjoyed  The series is, actually amazing! One of my favourites, ever.

Looking forward to the movie, not that they'll show it in UK cinemas, except maybe a couple of the big cities :(

Initially, i was put off by the concept.... Precocious American high school cheerleader types moonlighting as a PI had "DANGER! DANGER! CACK-OLA ALERT" written all over it, but then a friend of mine (a fellow Buffy/Angel) obsessive sat me down and said, "no, seriously, this is actually good....". And, er, it was...... The writing was excellent, and the character was not irritating at all.. A miracle of Buffy-esque proportions, a show revolving around an American High school pupil that didn't make me want to vomit..... A great, 'old-skool' detective show with a modern twist....Some of the stories could be pretty seriously edgy as well.....

Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas has revealed that a big screen version of the show is "close" to being completed.

The series, which starred Kristen Bell as a student who moonlights as a private investigator, ran from 2004 until 2007.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Thomas said that he had almost finished writing the project, saying: "It's close. A few key details left to solve.

"I'm preparing the pitch now - literally now. I hope to go in and talk to [executive producer]Joel Silver and [Warner Bros.] in the next week or two to see if they're interested."

However, he stressed that this did not mean that the movie was a done deal. "I'm going to give it my best shot and let the chips fall where they may...It's entirely possible I won't have an answer at the end of the pitch.

"They will want to consider [the pitch], look at some numbers - whatever it is people on the business side do - and then they'll give me some sort of response. Then, if they want to move forward, there's the deal-making that'll need to go on."

Pavel will be happy :heehee:

I AM! :w00t: This news has made my day and now i have a stimulus to live  VERONICA MARS series were incredible. My favourite show.

WE WILL SEE VERONICA AGAIN :w00t:

It sounds like fans shouldn't get their hopes up about seeing a big screen version of the TV series Veronica Mars anytime soon.

Although there had been positive developments on the film front over the last few months, series creator Rob Thomas says the situation has now changed for the worse. "While the pitch [to producer Joel Silver]went well and I don't think the movie's dead, right now it's looking depressing," Thomas told the New York Post.

He added, "I think honestly if we would have had the pitch ready a year earlier, it would be a go project. The hope that we would get a quick greenlight didn't materialize. This is the least optimistic I've felt in a while."

Thomas said the film would have "picked up just prior to Veronica's graduation, it would have been the college years."

Silver's publicist informed Entertainment Weekly's Hollywood Insider, "Joel has a very strong attachment to Veronica Mars. Rob has a great idea for a movie, so Joel really hopes to find a way to make it." Warner Bros. refused to comment on the story for EW.

This is just unacceptable.

Although in all honesty, I'd sooner see a fourth season than a movie - but STILL!
