Message to you and the fans

I'm sorry that this is the first thing anyone has heard from me in a while. I've been on the forum and the general consensus seems to be that I'm feeling down, but I'm feeling good. I'm feeling in control.

I think it would be an impossibilty for me never to make a record again. I just couldn't do that, but to say to the fans that I am actively working on a new album when I am not would be unfair.

One thing everyone has to realize is that being an underground leftfield artist used to pay the bills but in this age of the music industry, it is impossible. I'm not a kid anymore. I'm looking over the next few years to getting a house and having a family of my own. I need to pay the bills. It feels totally literating not to be beating down a record company door which another amazing album that they just yawn at. I get the feeling that we wouldn't have had the great music from the past if record company folk were such lazy idiots as they are so clearly now!

It's also an age for big brother, x factor, dancing on ice. You get my drift! I'm fighting a losing battle. People want scandal and addiction. They want a record thrown together in 2 weeks by 12 writers! I feel I need this to blow over. To see what the industry does next as ultimately the artists hold the power and good music will win through. The last thing I want to do now is write my best work for it to go underground!

I hope you understand and can go some way to explaining to the fans that i'm doing my best with bad situation and also that they ARE and have been the BEST part of my experience. Also, I'm not and never could be a celebrity. I'm just a regular girl finding my way and making mistakes.

I'm writing with some of my old crew on their projects just for fun at the moment.

Most importantly, as soon as I figure out what the next album is... I will make it. Ghosts took me 3 years to figure out the direction!

Sending lots and lots of love

Siobhan x

Yeah, no great loss...because shes like more talented than all 3 babes put together :/

Shame, she has talent.

Not a shock tho. Maybe time will be good for her, and she'll come back with an album thats not only amazing but successful.

Reading this has left me with feelings of anger and sadness.

I can understand where she's coming from. The direction she wants to go in, musically, isn't working out for her as far as sales & mainstream success goes. However, I don't agree with her just 'giving up'. It's easy to just 'give up'. She's really too talented to just sit and wait. She should be at the front of the class teaching, rather than sat at the back learning ... if that makes any sense at all.

Vanessa Carlton constantly battles with getting her music out there. Luckily for her (and she's said this since day 1 when "A Thousand Miles" was starting to blow up), she isn't interested in the "glitz and glam" of the music world and is contempt with simply just putting out music and touring. She was actually on the verge of quitting music because her old labels (and many others) had told her to either "do what we say, or leave". She left. 'Harmonium' was a commercial disaster, but it's been said to be one of the best albums in the last decade (and of her career) by critics.

ANYWAY, all I'm trying to say is that she shouldn't give up so easily. Her last project not doing well, commercially, was through fault of her label; not her. And her label was Parlophone, right? I said right from the minute I found out she was releasing with them that they would do a poor job of handling her project - especially since it's so leftfield and non-mainstream. And I was right. They didn't know how to handle an artist like Siobhan.

I wish her well, and I hope one day we get to hear something from her because 'Ghosts' is one amazing album.

:( :( :( :( :( :( :(

She's not giving up! She's not leaving the music industry behind or saying she won't release again. She's just saying that it isn't paying the bills and isn't allowing her to do the other things she wants to do, so she's not recording right now. Don't all artists have time off anyway? :heehee: I don't think there's any element of giving up to it... just practicality.

She can still do music and have a job, though. She doesn't need to give one up to satisfy the other. Just record some stuff acoustically and stick it up on the Myspace page. She could still write a killer album while working, too.

She's had more than enough time off (for my liking, anyway). I don't need ANOTHER artist trying out new things when really they should be in the studio writing for their next album ... lol.

I'm going to message her. What is her Myspace page?

Shame, I quite like a few of her songs. Don't Give It Up, Ghosts, Medevac and Goldfish.
 Ghosts was amazing.

Absolutely. She's a very talented girl but somehow always seems doomed to failure, totally undeservingly. I hope to see her give it another shot one day though.

Personnaly i feel she was by far the most talented subababe member and its a shame she wont be releasing any new music in the forseeable future and i think that is a shame as i actually prefer her 2 solo albums to any of the sugababes material
