Posted January 27, 200916 yr With a warm-up gig for her national tour, Lily Allen performed at Gloucester yesterday! Tickets sold out within minutes of going on sale, and an eclectic mix of ages gathered at the venue last night to witness one of the biggest names the city has seen perform in a few years. A DJ provided the warm up music, but the crowd were only waiting for one persson. Lily duly appeared, walking on stage in a sparkly silver jacket that soon discarded as the temperature in the intimate venue took effect. The gig itself, a warm up for a forthcoming national tour, was clearly just that. For the first few songs, they appeared to be settling in, before finding their stride halfway through the set. Lily's voice, which has clearly matured since her debut two years ago, struggled at times to be heard over the band, especially earlier in the gig and during hit single LDN. However, by the time her first single Smile and current single The Fear were played, she had the crowd bouncing along. For an encore, the band launched into a cover version of Britney Spears' Womanizer. Full of distorted guitars and shouting, it was a breathless and confident finish. This was a warm up gig, and you could tell that at times. However, taking it as a taster for the forthcoming album, and a preview of the national tour, it is clear fans of Lily will not be disappointed in the coming months. (Review by Dave Thomas, pictures at Crackerjack.co.uk)
