hardly an expert on life... but surely, absolutely more equipped to comment on it than yourself, eh, Jark?

As for stereotypes.... hardly..... The Saturdays is muzak CLEARLY aimed at the lispier end of the gay market... the Jeremy Joseph clubbers whose only experience of a gay club is one that plays Kylie et al and where the clubbers are all in too-short-too-tight-Top-Shop clobber.

I know...I've been to them.... and it's not nice. So stereotyping? I suggest you visit one of these clubs... then come back with a comment.

I wonder what The Saturdays can't get enough of? Fake tan?

The colour of their clothes?

You seem to assume I haven't... :heehee: I'm well aware there are hordes of queeny gays out there who like nothing better than to lose their sh!t to remixes of Up and Issues, but equally it's music with fairly wide appeal. There are certainly artists out there much more heavily-marketed at gay guys!

I don't know what's wrong with you... but you have to get a grip and shut up. <_<

Also, about GA, aren't they "what you call"?

Anywayyy, personally I think it's awful news. A Comic Relief single is going to make them successful, resulting in the saturdays being around for lot longer and making more music. Dam.

I think you are ill informed of the Saturdays market. They are actually appealing to a very wide demographic in my opinion. I hate Mariah. I hate Madonna. I don't think much to Kylie, Dannii. I could live without Britney and Christina. But the Saturdays are making modern, cool pop music, I really don't see how any of it is Atomic Kitten-esque bar Issues. I think they are actually seen as quite cool and will over time achieve the same level of cool as Girls Aloud, who it's now okay for anyone and everyone to like.

I also would never dream of wearing tight tank tops or whatever it is you are suggesting is gay to wear.

I am a polo shirt and jeans, pint of lager type of guy who happens to think the Saturdays are one of the best things to happen to pure pop music in many years. I usually listen to singer songwriters but I can recognise promise, talent, potential and I resent your idea that the fact I see it in these girls makes me a lispy, camp queen.

But when a record company decides to plough obscene amounts into a new band (something they very, very rarely do nowadays anyway), they have a clear set idea of the target audience.... these people don't care about music or integrity - they're cold, hard businessmen who only want a hefty return on their investment.

The Saturdays were totally aimed at that luscious Pink Pound. From their numerous appearances at G.A.Y. to their blanket coverage in the gay press (which doesn't come cheap).... the record company knew the cheesier, the camper, the more startlingly badly dressed, the shallower they made The Saturdays... then the whippersnapper suburban queens will LAP it up.

And they may have been slow on the uptake - but it appears they have lapped it up.

The only other audience The Saturdays may appeal to is the girlie girls... to a lesser degree.

Right now, I'd say there really isn't an act being marketed more to the gay audience than The Saturdays....

I usually listen to singer songwriters but I can recognise promise, talent, potential and I resent your idea that the fact I see it in these girls makes me a lispy, camp queen.

Talent? Potential? Promise?

Have you listened to the lyrics of Issues? They sound like they were written by a simpleton 8 year old. And that's being unkind to simple kids, let's be honest.

What singer/songwriters can you possibly listen to that would enable you to even begin to think The Saturdays have 'promise, talent and potential'?

The sad fact is that Joe Public are stupid sheep when it comes to muzak.... they'll buy any old crap if it's in the top 5 and if it's being hyped by some TV show or being advertised.... I think a few hit singles for The Saturdays can hardly be equated with, ahem, 'connecting to their public'.

Then again, the average age and intelligence of both The Saturdays and their fans... perhaps their banal, braindead, wafer-thin, bland pop has struck a chord with the people who flap their little arms about to their muzak.... tragic. As girl bands go, they make even vomit like Atomic Kitten seem appealing.

A Poundstretchers, cut-price and ATROCIOUSLY styled Girls Aloud-alite for young girls and camp mincing gay men...and that's it. Really.

Indeed the last time a British girl group covered a 1981 synth pop classic as a bonus track for a reissue of their debut album the results were not exactly a resounding success:

Girls Aloud - Girls On Film

Talent? Potential? Promise?

Different musical acts cover different parts of musical satisfaction.

My absolute favourites, John Mayer and Jason Mraz have been producing, performing and writing their own credible music for years. Mayer is regarded as one of the greatest modern guitarists, while Mraz has always been applauded for his wordplay and for being a fantastic lyricist.

Both have some tunes that make me smile, but I would never put them on if I wanted something to just cheer me up, something I could have fun to.

In the same way that I enjoy listening to Booty Luv before I go for a night out, the Saturdays appeal to another part of music I enjoy. Good fun, pure pop music. I don't pretend that anyone in either of these two outfits are musical geniuses. However, there are those within both groups who are immensely talented vocalists. It's quite clear, in my opinion, that most of the Saturdays are better vocalists than 80% of the Spice Girls and 60% of Girls Aloud.

When I talk about potential, talent and promise, I don't mean to ever join the Music Hall of Fame and go down as Britain's great musicians, I mean to be one of our best girlgroups, and one of the best outfits out there producing pop music.

Different musical acts tick different musical boxes for me. I listen to Jamie T for a different reason than I listen to Maximo Park, for a different reason than I listen to the Saturdays. But all for GOOD reason.

eh? English might help.

Bit of a typo. :D

Anyway, what were you saying about Sats isn't it what GA are (Well, as you said)? <_<

In other words, you are sayin that Sats are *bleep* so, doesn't what GA are trying to be?

Bravo Adam! Good on you for standing your ground and not letting Buzzjack's resident grumps force you to concede that you're own personal tastes are inferior to theres. ^_^

says buzzjacks biggest bananarama fan! :P ....

yep, in a nutshell Russ... As usual, the overly camp Queeny-types with their masses of pink pounds and NO FUKKIN' TASTE IN MUSIC making an incredibly banal and pointless "band" famous for 15 minutes......

The only positive thing is, the "queenies" have limited attention spans and soon move on to something else.....

So it's allright for GaGa to believe her own hype and to be confident but it's not for Rochelle?

Lady GaGa has a reason to be confident in her abilities.... She actually HAS talent/abilities for one thing, and her material stands up to repeated listens, there's more ideas going with Lady GaGa than there ever will be with any manufactured act, I put LG up there with "Erotica-era" Madonna and Goldfrapp tbh, Lady GaGa is sitting rather nicely in my PC music folder alongside Ladytron.....  And, it's all very well to say the Sats have "nice voices", but come on, it's more what you do with it that counts surely....? Plenty of okay voices warble on in the Karaoke on a Saturday night, DOES NOT MEAN I want to buy an album of it..... I listen to the utter blandness that is "Issues", and frankly, they'd may as well be singing a shopping list..... There's really nowt worse than a waste of a perfectly okay voice..... If the Sats were doing meatier material, I'd listen more attentively... But, they aint, so I dont..... I judge music on the basis of "do I want to listen to this again...?", and with the Sats, the answer has, so far, been a total NO......

An act has to possess a bit more than technical ability for me...... I dont listen to Power Metal very much either, because, while these bands may possess a technical ability to play their instruments extremely well, the material is totally cheesy, cringemaking and naff........ So, it's the same sort of standard I apply to both tbh..... "Does the material do anything for me..?"

Power Metal rules! :cheer:
