It's the first Comc Releif song not to make number one since something like 1994, when there wasn't actually a Red Nose Day that year!

I imagine it won't be long until there's another which fails to make the top though, maybe about 6 days?

well if 'islands in the stream' does get to #1 it will be a further blow to the saturdays!

I promised to start going to the church provided that The Saturdays wouldn't go to number one.
But its about raising money for Comic Relief, and has done that - even more so than 2 years ago so go The Saturdays.
oh dear........ #2?

that is an unmittigated disaster, especially when they were beaten by such a load of crap.

Yup - a bigger disaster than that plane that crashed in the Netherlands last month.

if that was strictly true then they wouldnt have been 'begging' people to go out and buy it so it "gets to #1" . the point is that it was beaten by an even bigger load of crap!

The funny thing is, after this week it will more than likely have passed the overall total sales of that Sugababes vs Girls Aloud thing.

I was thinking that earlier  So for everyone who is saying this is flop  Yeah, really is should have gone to no.1 but it was just unlucky! The fact that they have sold as much as GA and Sugas song in 2 weeks says a lot does it not? They are supposed to be the 2 biggest girlbands etc...This song has done very well for the sats! Will sell at least double what last years did so yeah -_- ^_^

but like ive already said, they wont be remembered for selling more then ga/sb, theyll be remembered as the acts that failed to get a #1 with a comic relief single.

if its any consolation, i too think they were robbed, that flo rida track is total rubbish.

They won't be remembered for anything. The song won't be looked back on fondly, it's rubbish. But they made a bit of cash for charity and that's that. It's good enough. #1 or #10, it's pretty irrelevant really. It's just another success for the Saturdays to add to their CV.

Could people just look back at how low were singles sales in 2007 compared to now though? Digital sales are exploding at the moment, that is why singles sales look really high for the Sats, no comparison is "aloud" ^_^

Especially since this song won't be remembered at all. GA's fourth single was "Jump". You want to compare both songs' popularity? ^_^

.... but it could be argued that only reaching #2 especially to that flo rida crap isnt a success.

Flo Rida's number 1, coz (Obviously) more people like that than this... so I don't see/get what you mean...
No, it couldn't be argued that at all. Really, you talk such rubbish. :s Flo Rida's song, regardless of your opinion of it, is one of those songs you get a few of each year with massive, global hype. #1 in basically all of the major markets.

a comic relief single NOT getting to #1 could easily be considered a failure

so?

i dont get the appeal of it, its a half botched effort pinching dead or alives 'you spin me round (like a record)' which makes anything coldplay has plagiarised look innocent! its been 15 years since a comic relief single failed to reach #1, and the saturdays managed it!

Just give up. Flo Rida was always going to be #1. Fact is, in 2 weeks, the Sats have raised more money for a good cause than Babesaloud did in their entire run on the chart. Not a single person cares that it didn't get to #1 because a global chart force beat it.

You're just picking on them for the sake of it now. So both this and the Sugas/GA Comic Relief single were rubbish in your opinion but this is more of a failure for reaching #2, even though it sold at least 10,000 copies more than they did in the first week? I swear, sometimes you're on the "chart positions don't matter guys, it's how much hard cash they make for the label executives that matter" (though the point is fairly moot here as it's a charity record, but they still sold a lot of copies) and now you're saying "positions > sales". Make up your mind.

Flo Rida isn't claiming to be completely original with his record, it's fairly well-known that it heavily samples Dead Or Alive. It's broke records in the US for most downloadsin a week and it sold a hefty amount of downloads (72,000) here as a result of that.

the difference being that being selected to do the comic relief single should have guaranteed them #1, as many further back on this thread have said. its about kudos..

but i have sympathy for them, id sooner them be at #1 then that flo-rida rubbish.

If it was number 2 on 40k sales, I'd understand where you are coming from Rob, but the fact they did over 60k in their first week, at number 2, is just pure unlucky. Flo Rida was always going to be number 1, it's just he wasn't expected to release so soon, so the girls were just unlucky on the position, but sales wise have done brilliantly for Comic Relief and beat the 51k number 1, position of Babes/Girls Aloud. Comic Relief aren't really bothered about the positioning, never have been, they're just bothered about how much each single raises etc... Of course it would be nice for the position to match the sales, but that's just an added bonus (If they can get it). Singles sales this year are UP and it's so much harder nowadays.
