What's with all the cover hate?

It's FAR better than 90% of the other covers we recieve from ANY one! I don't get why it's so bad

its tacky, cheap, vulgar.

....they're just having a bit of fun, give them a break.

And???????

It is The Saturdays after all. Hence the cover is a perfect compliment for the band's image & music.

I wonder why you don't like it then...

Because they are not very good (so far).

Compare their output to the likes of TLC, The Spice Girls, Destiny's Child, All Saints, Sugababes, Girls Aloud ..... and they are nowhere in that league.

I also dislike the way they were blatantly hyped & manufactured (well they put together via auditions from the same management as Mcfly & formerly Busted who therefore know all the tricks in the book), with an initial substantial marketing budget to break them and the shackles go up amongst music fans who know when they are being conned.

As Chuck D once said "Don't, Don't, Don't Believe The Hype".

But the bottom line is that unlike Girls Aloud, their music so far has been either bland, insepid & lacking in merit. Tellingly their Live Lounge version of "Beggin'" is by a long distance the best thing I've heard from them as it strongly suggests they have a vocal talent & spark lacking so far from their first three singles.

Fukkin' horrendous cover.... AWFUL.... Russ is spot on... Two-bit, deeply unconvincing, trannies.....

I've seen ladyboys in Soho who dress with more class and style than these awful slappers..... :puke2:

The material on this, their debut, is FAR, FAR better than anything from GA OR Sugababes' debuts...

I must admit, I prefer The Saturdays first three singles BY FAR to the Sugababes first three.

And IIRC, it got quite decent reviews, probably better than Sugababes & Girls Aloud's latest albums.
It and Out Of Control got similar reviews (three, four stars) although this is much better than OOC.

'issues' live is very good too, they can produce decent harmonies with the right material, im not going to write them off.... as with ANY artist if i like a track, ill like it regardless of who it is, or what they have previously done. hell even coldplay might one day do a track i like!

going off the first 3 single releases i couldnt dissagree more. 'overload' in particular was a clever use of a sample with intelligent lyrics ... pisses all over 'if this is love'.

'Overload' was alright, yep, but I don't find it has aged especially well. I don't know if I prefer 'If This Is Love' but there's no doubt whatsoever for me that 'Up' is better than any of the follow-ups, same with 'Issues'. Anyway, just for fun:

If This Is Love vs. Sound Of The Underground vs. Overload

Up vs. No Good Advice vs. New Year

Issues vs. Life Got Cold vs. Run For Cover

Work vs. Jump vs. Soul Sound

The Sats win that 3-0 LOL (can't picker a winner for the debuts).

My choices:

If This Is Love vs. Sound Of The Underground vs. Overload

Up vs. No Good Advice vs. New Year

Issues vs. Life Got Cold vs. Run For Cover (love all three of those though)

Work vs. Jump vs. Soul Sound

If This Is Love vs. Sound Of The Underground vs. Overload

Up vs. No Good Advice vs. New Year

Issues vs. Life Got Cold vs. Run For Cover

Work vs. Jump vs. Soul Sound

Sorted ^_^

But I'd be inclined to recognise that the original sound the Sugababes did was more underground (in vain of early All Saints).

Butting in but I disagree.

Sound Of The Underground & Jump are miles better than If This Is Love + Work, maybe not production wise but as far as "classic 21st century british pop songs" go, then they are far superior. No Good Advice & Life Got Cold arn't some of GA's finer moments, but it was them songs that helped them get to where they are now today.

I don't think they're exactly dressing to look good on the cover, surely they're going for the do something funny for money which is the motto for Comic Relief this year. (though I thought that was the idea behind it anyway)

I think 'Overload' has aged quite well, the debut by the Sats is easily the worst of the three, but they're all decent. Mine would be 2-0-2, 'Overload', 'Up', 'Run For Cover' and 'Work' are the best. But 'Work' probably isn't their fourth single unless it's the B-side to this but I reckon this will be better than the fourth singles by the other two.

No Good Advice perhaps Josh, but not Life Got Cold. It's pretty much entirely forgotten today... and Jump can't be a 'classic 21st century British pop song' when it was a cover of a song from 1984... LOL.

0 v 2 v 2

Mind you if you'd posted the first 4 Spice Girls singles it would be 4 - 0 - 0 - 0 to the Spices.

:heeheee: Okay, ignoring Life Got Cold, but I'm pretty sure that the majority of the British public know the Jump cover (it was more successful than the original).

I'm just surprised at how long GA have lasted. :o
