Posted February 3, 200917 yr Fleet Foxes in hunt for top five place 10:41 | Tuesday February 3, 2009 By Paul Williams Two of 2008’s most-critically-acclaimed albums are set to move into the Top 10 this Sunday, with Fleet Foxes’ debut set looking for a top five slot and Elbow’s The Seldom Seen Kid just a few places behind. Bella Union act Fleet Foxes’ self-titled album, which was the inaugural winner of Uncut’s album of the year prize, originally peaked at number 11 last June, but is now poised to move from its current position of 23 high into the Top 10 following the release of a special edition of the album. At the same time, Fiction act Elbow, who won the Nationwide Mercury Prize last year with The Seldom Seen Kid, are likely to climb into the 10 from their present chart position of 17. Ahead of both of them on sales presently, Bruce Springsteen is looking to spend a second week at one with Working On A Dream. His nearest challengers are fellow Columbia act The View whose second 1965-issued album Which Bitch is around 1,600 sales behind, according to early sales indicators. In a quiet week for new album releases, there are unlikely to be any other new entries in the Top 20 with the next highest-placed debut expected to be James Taylor’s Hearmusic/UMTV set Covers. Below it, a number of new retrospectives are set to enter the chart this weekend in time for Valentine's Day, including a Rhino/Universal Burt Bacharach best of, Virgin-issued Love Songs by UB40, Decca’s The Duets by Luciano Pavarotti and UMTV’s The Very Best Of by Buddy Holly & the Crickets in what is today the 50th anniversary of the plane crash that killed Holly, The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens. The singles market remains pretty static currently with the Top 10 sellers as they were last Sunday but in a slightly different order. Lily Allen’s Regal single The Fear leads the way, with the track it replaced at number one, Interscope/Polydor’s Just Dance by Lady GaGa, its nearest challenger. Just outside the 10, Daniel Merriweather’s Columbia solo debut Change is the biggest-selling new single of the week and the only one so far to register among the Top 40. Expect among the singles chart’s big climbers on Sunday tracks by Universal’s Shontelle, Interscope/Polydor’s Pussycat Dolls and Parlophone’s Coldplay.
