Posted February 3, 200916 yr http://www.popeater.com/music/article/mile...ady-long/326727 Miley Adds Racist Gag to Already Long List of Photo Scandals Source: PopEater.com (Feb. 3) - Miley Cyrus has had her share of photo scandals in the past couple years, ranging from racy pics on her MySpace page to statements of regret over her mature photo shoot with Annie Leibowitz. Her latest scandal has angered more than parents and fans looking for a good role model - a photo of Miley and her friends pulling back their eyelids to adopt an archaic, racist caricature of Asian people has leaked to the web. The OCA, an organization "dedicated to advancing the social, political and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans" sent a statement to TMZ in response to the photo. It reads, in part: "The photograph of Miley Cyrus and other individuals slanting their eyes currently circulating the Internet is offensive to the Asian Pacific American community and sets a terrible example for her many young fans. This image falls within a long and unfortunate history of people mocking and denigrating individuals of Asian descent... Not only has Miley Cyrus and the other individuals in the photograph encouraged and legitimized the taunting and mocking of people of Asian descent, she has also insulted her many Asian Pacific American fans... The inclusion of an Asian Pacific American individual in the photo does not make it acceptable." Read the entire statement on TMZ Karen Narasaki, president of the director for the Asian American Justice Center, tells CELEBUZZ, "It's hard to imagine the context where this would be okay. It's offensive and disappointing. She's such a role model for young women." An image search for Cyrus on Google still offers an abundance of scantily clad photographs of the young singer, many of them taken and posted by herself. Last year, after a relatively tame but partially unclothed photo shoot with famed photographer Annie Leibowitz, Cyrus released a statement saying, "I took part in a photoshoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed."
February 3, 200916 yr summut over nothing? is it really that bad? ok its unacceptable but if i was a chinese/japanese and somebody 'slitted' their eyes.... so what? id just think they are a 'david brent' type of unfunny arsehole... not worth getting worked up about imho.

People KNOW that David Brent is a character played by Ricky Gervais..... Whereas Miley Cyrus is an actual person and supposedly a "role model" for teenagers and young girls.....I mean, come on, first it's partially clothed "artistic" photographs (this girl is UNDERAGE in the US ffs, so it's bordering on the extremely dodgy, who is the intended "audience" for these photos, you think it's all chin-strokey arty types who'll witter on about the "composition" or the "use of lighting"....?), now she's making extremely dodgy racist gestures... I mean, what the fukk has got into this silly little bint.....? Unfortunately the fact that she IS a role model will mean that impressionable teenagers will tend to copycat.... So, is going around semi-clad and making racist "slitty eye" gestures the sort of thing that young, impressionable, pubescent girls ought to be doing....? Errr, no......
February 3, 200916 yr Nothing will suprise me with this one now. You can just tell cant you that she's just the most unlikeable person.
February 3, 200916 yr Nothing will suprise me with this one now. You can just tell cant you that she's just the most unlikeable person. It seems to me that we can add Miley Cyrus to the list of celebs who seem to believe their own bullsh!t......
February 3, 200916 yr Yes she is a role model but at the same time she is a young girl and she is just doing stuff that others her age do be it pics, drink/drugs, being rebellious or whatever She is a child prodigy and how many child prodigy's have had totally fukked up lives because they were not able to have a proper childhood/teenagehood ? it is good that she is acting like any other teenage girl is
February 3, 200916 yr BULL. Ive been doing that for years and im not gonna start doing it more just cos Miley Cyrus done it  Its ridiculous that cos she does something that her and her friends does something of comic value for themselves, she suddenly gets hung drawn and quartered for it but we can watch "normal" people do it every day and shows such as The Simpsons and Family Guy take the p*** out of them for the exact same reasons (comic value) and just carry on with our lives. Im not defending her (god i would like to see her and her father go back to the farmyard), but it is a little ridiculous no?
February 3, 200916 yr LOL @ you guys. She's never done a single thing that 80% of other teenage girls hasn't done! Role model or not, she's a normal girl! And I'm not in on this 'she does it so people will copy it' MADNESS.
February 3, 200916 yr I'm with Jark :o She's a teenage girl, just because she's famous it doesn't mean imo that she should start acting any differently and if people insist she should, she is entitled to make mistakes too. This is exactly how I acted when I was a teen and I dare say I still do from time to time... like Joao says shows like Family Guy are huge and some of their humour comes from this sort of thing. It's all a bit OTT, over-reaction to me.
February 3, 200916 yr Good now lets hang her. :cheer: Seriously though, I've seen more worst pictures of girls her age from my school.

And I'm not in on this 'she does it so people will copy it' MADNESS. I completely agree. This is completely PETTY. For all we know the writer of this article could be Miley's biggest hater, everyone knows how the media blows up issues to such an extent to bash a celebrity. . Miley really has her share of bashers, that would love to see her vanish off the entertainment scene. . Something like a sex tape would be a major issue but this is crazy. I mean it's the media. Helloo. . Labelling her as a poor role model over this and her half naked pose on a magazine really has no backbone. Millions of girls love her and look up to her and their is PLENTY of reason to. Every girl dreams and would love to have her own tv show, music album, live concert and autobiography by when they're 16. That really is a huge load to respect and look up to her for. For example any child or teen star could end up on a celeb magazine on the internet half naked in a photo taken by the paparazzi. Miley posing HALF naked really is nothing. Just go to the beach ffs. That takes a lot of confidence and an obese girl could have Miley as a role model and then motivate herself to lose weight after seeing Miley posing like that. She is one of the nicest girls, I mean the media would love to turn her into Lindsay Lohan II. And them taking something that was meant as humour and blowing it up like they did in this article really substantiates this. .

February 3, 200916 yr I don't see why it's condoned just because "every teenage girl does it". She's not just your standard teenage girl. And she's not young anymore! She's 16! She should know what's right and what's wrong. And if she doesn't know, then she should be educated. She hasn't grasped the responsibility which comes with being famous. Take as many photos as you want where you're acting like a twit, but don't release them when they'll most likely cause offense, which in this case, they have. I accept that she is allowed to make mistakes, but she has made many and she should have copped-on by now. And she chose to go into this business, so if her life is ruined by the time she's 20, it's her own fault. She gets no sympathy from me.
February 3, 200916 yr ^Why should her being famous make her act differently?? Nobody is asking her to act differently, people just want her to be aware of what she's doing. She can be herself, but she should try and maintain a level of decency. I accept that she is just being a teen, but with millions of fans [both teens and parents], she should be more careful about what she releases to the public.
February 3, 200916 yr "Personally I blame the (male) parent(s)".... OIqMflhH1LY Billy Ray Cyrus - Achy Breaky Heart ....Considering her dad has a "criminal record" to his name what can you expect.
February 3, 200916 yr Um, good attitude... The way the title of this piece has been written is enough to let you know the author isn't keen on her. 'List of scandals'? Makes her sound as if she was a Sarah Palin/Hitler hybrid (imagine!)!
February 3, 200916 yr Author I think it is just teenage girls having fun, i don't there was any racist intent. She has actually commented on twitter about it, which you can see below. dident say anything i took a picture and it made it seem like i was making fun of asian people witch wasent the case :[ She apologises here. I apoligize if i offened anybody in the asian commuity

I'm guessing by this that you're also quite upset with the Michael Phelps scandal? :o Same thing could honestly be said about him. I could honestly care less about Miley tbh lawlz. I'm not phased by this.
