Piles? Did you sit on cold steps as a child? My granny always said that gave you piles. Of course that may just have affected 'true' Scotsmen wearing kilts

MoD in n Larkhall X-Files probe

Feb 12 2009 by Gary Fanning, Hamilton Advertiser

A UFO sighting in Larkhall has been logged with the Ministry of Defence.

The MoD probed a report of an unidentified flying object in the town on August 11 at 10.05pm.

An eagled-eyed believer said they spotted one single round light hovering in the sky.

The spooky sighting was described as orange/red in colour and moving south east.

No sound accompanied the sighting, the MoD were told.

The incident was just one of 285 UFO sightings recorded by the MoD last year – another included a craft with green, red and white lights in the sky above the Palace of Westminister on February 12, 2008.

The number of UFO sightings logged with MoD has doubled from the previous year and is the highest number of sightings in 10 years.

All the incidents were included in a document released by the MoD last week.

It details the date, time and location of the sightings, along with a brief summary of the eyewitness reports, but it doesn’t say who reported the incident.

The MoD only investigate sightings that they consider might pose a risk to national security.

Residents had mixed views about the UFO sighting in Larkhall.

Veronica Magunnigle (48), of Cosyneuk, said: “I don’t believe it.

“I am surprised to hear that it was reported in Larkhall.”

Shavonne Dunsmore (30) of Saltire Crescent, Larkhall, said: “I don’t believe that anything like that happened in Larkhall.

“I am a non-believer and sorry I don’t think UFOs exist.

“They said it was a red/orange in colour. Are they sure it wasn’t white and blue as well?”

Tom Rocks (63), of Strutherhill, Larkhall,. said: “I didn’t hear or see anything that night. I am open minded.

“If there are aliens out there then they would be here by now.

“There could be things out there and UFOs could be passing by.

“I don’t know if it was a UFO, but the government cover up everything, so they could cover this up too.”

It’s not the first time that a UFO has been reported flying above Larkhall last year.

Two further sightings of UFOs in Larkhall were reported on a UFO website.

According to ufoinfo.com, a UFO was spotted in the town on July 3 last year at 1.36pm.

Another UFO was reported in the same area in December 2007/January 2008.

One person witnessed both sightings.

During the first incident, the eyewitness said he was sitting at his computer next to the window and saw something moving in the sky that caught his eye.

He said: “It would be visible one minute, then not the next, probably due to distance, cloud and light.

“It was moving back and forth in a circle.

“It did this for a few minutes before disappearing.” He added: “It did occur to me that it may be racing pigeons having been released, as my grandfather used to keep them and the movements were very similar.

“Though what it was moved in circles very fast.”

The eyewitness then went on to describe how he saw another UFO in the same area.

He said it was about 2am when he spotted what appeared to look like “flashing lights from an emergency vehicle until it stopped and moved back in the direction it came.”

He added: “It covered about half a mile to a mile at a time before turning back on itself.

“Once I realised it was not an emergency vehicle, as there are no roads in that location that would allow a vehicle to keep the same straight line, I thought maybe it was a police helicopter, although I have never seen a police helicopter with flashing lights before in these parts.”

The Advertiser reported last month how people in Blantyre were puzzled after an apparent UFO sighting in the area.

A bright yellow orb was spotted in the sky on January 5.

Witness Bill Sim (60) spotted the lights from his Fernslea Avenue home and even captured some video footage of the phenomenon.
