Posted February 9, 200916 yr Singer Rihanna pulled out of the Grammy Awards after police announced they were investigating an assault claim against her boyfriend, R&B star Chris Brown. Los Angeles police said Mr Brown, 19, had argued with an unidentified woman on Saturday night, and the fight escalated when they got out of a car. He is currently being interviewed by officers, a police spokeswoman said. They did not identify the woman who had made the complaint against Mr Brown, whose performance was also dropped. Mr Brown, who walked into a police station at 1900 local time on Sunday (0300 GMT on Monday), is being held on $50,000 (£34,000) bail, Associated Press reported. "We have just been informed that Rihanna will not be attending tonight's 51st Annual Grammy Awards. We're sorry she is unable to join us," the Recording Academy said in a brief statement shortly before the ceremony. 'Visible injuries' Chris Brown first topped the US charts aged 16 with Run It Police said Mr Brown and the woman got into an argument while sitting in a parked car in the city's Hancock Park neighbourhood. "After stopping his car, Brown and the woman got out and the argument escalated," a Los Angeles Police Department statement said. "The woman suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker." Police received an emergency call reporting the disturbance but when officers arrived, Mr Brown had left the scene. Rihanna was due to sing Live Your Life/Disturbia as the second performance of the night at the Staples Center, while Mr Brown was to sing Forever. They were both nominated in the pop collaboration with vocals category, Brown for No Air with American Idol winner Jordin Sparks; and Rihanna for If I Never See Your Face Again with Maroon 5. Mr Brown was also nominated for male R&B vocal performance for Take You Down.Source: BBC News UPDATE (9:11p EST): Ok, here’s the low down we got from an extremely credible PR source on the ground at the Grammys. Said source tells TheYBF.com that the “car accident” story is false and is being used to throw everyone off. Rihanna is DEFINITELY the victim of domestic violence and is now pressing charges against her boyfriend Chris Brown as we speak. Early this morning while leaving Clive Davis’ party, the two got into a physical altercation in their limo and he punched Rihanna in the face. We’re told that’s when he/the limo dropped her at Hancock Park in L.A., and she ran and called 911. He left the scene and hasn’t been found since. We’re told Chris has until midnight tonight to turn himself in to LAPD. Otherwise, he will be arrested as soon as he’s spotted by an LAPD officer. We’re told Rihanna is definitely in the hospital recovering as we speak. Source: YBF.com Los Angeles police said they plan to detain R&B singer Chris Brown for questioning in connection with an alleged domestic violence assault against his girlfriend, pop singer Rihanna, according to sources familiar with the investigation. [updated 7:25 p.m.]Brown arrived at the Wilshire Division station about 7:15 p.m., accompanied by another man. The pair drove into a parking lot behind the station on Venice Boulevard, east of La Brea Avenue, in a black Escalade. Brown and the man entered through a back door where a posted sign stated for “authorized personnel only.” Police are expected to release a statement later this evening. February 9, 200916 yr I don't know what to write about this without sounding like Jeremy Kyle. I can't stand supposed "men" like that, f***ing cowardly, sub-human scum. Clearly I get riled at every case of domestic abuse I hear about, be it towards a man or woman, but hopefully, because it involves relatively young 'celebs'; it'll raise awareness and be an incentive for anyone the same age to get help if they're going through the same thing.

Far too often women drop the charges because the blokes manipulate them into believing that they're really "sorry" and can "change".... Bollocks, if he did it once and gets away with it, he'll do it again. And again...... These things just never end well.....
February 9, 200916 yr Hopefully he will go to jail and will be the bitch of some 20st black dude who will ass rape him till it bleeds every day throughout his sentence Domestic violence is vile whether he might have been provoked or not

February 9, 200916 yr I love how the blogosphere is exploding and declaring the woman he punched MUST be Rihanna. It could be, but her pulling out of the Grammys is hardly proof enough... if she'd just seen her boyfriend attack some woman and be taken into custody, she'd hardly be in the right frame of mind to perform in front of thousands anyway would she?!
February 9, 200916 yr Well, isn't the title a bit presumptuous? :P Sure, it's implied quite strongly that Rihanna was the one on the receiving end (as he had apparently just had an argument with her) but it is, for now, an unidentified woman... And I'm quite surprised by this actually, seeing as Chris claims to 'hate [his father] to this day' for his physical abuse of his mother. Then again, The Daily Mail crowd will probably start crowing that the apple never falls far from the tree... That said, I'm not quite sure why this is in Perspectives and not The Lounge :/

Oh $h!t, really!? I mean, I was only bothered because I assumed it was Rihanna. Not really bothered if it's just any old bird, that'd be fine...

February 9, 200916 yr TMZ has confirmed Rihanna is the named alleged victim in the Chris Brown case and the allegation is that she was assaulted with a deadly weapon. Law enforcement sources tell us the crime report calls the incident assault with a deadly weapon -- we do not yet know the nature of the weapon. The crime report gives the victim's name as Robyn Fenty -- that's Rihanna's real name. I don't believe that tbh... hmmmm it's all very odd atm
February 9, 200916 yr "She was assaulted with a deadly weapon" LOL. Surely she'd be in hospital then? Anyway, innocent until proven guilty and all that. The media always over exadurate 100% when a famous person is involved generally.

The media always over exadurate 100% when a famous person is involved generally. She is in hospital I think  I'm still not believing the "Deadly Weapon" thing ;) Also can't this topic be merged with the one in the lounge? :P It's confusing having two topics

February 9, 200916 yr That said, I'm not quite sure why this is in Perspectives and not The Lounge :/ I thought the same initially. After all, what discussion can there be? Is anyone going to say "I disagree, he was right to hit her, domestic abuse is sometimes warranted" But this could lead to a broader discussion of something that occurs every single day around the world and is usually kept secret. We could go anywhere with this... alcoholism, the Middle East... I'll start with hip/hop culture. The whole "smackin' bitches" attitude glamorized by rap lyrics is revolting and should not be tolerated. I know it seems silly but I really think Obama should speak out about it - after all he has an entire generation of African Americans looking to him as a hero and role model. I hope he loses every one of those pricey endorsements, too. If Michael Phelps lost a Kellogg endorsement simply by sticking a pipe in his face, I certainly hope Brown won't continue dancing for Doublemint Gum on TV...
February 9, 200916 yr Hmmm, well I wouldn't really place Chris Brown under the hip-hop/rap category. Lyrically and musically he's very definitely sanitised family-friendly R&B-pop. I think only Run It could really be classed as the former and that's not really an example of typical hip-hop/rap culture tbh, so I wouldn't say that he was particularly influenced by that in his actions against Rihanna... Then again, I don't think any of us really know his music taste, so for all I know he could be
February 9, 200916 yr Tbh, does Chris Brown actually hold any musical qualities? Has he actually done anything good for his genre of music? No, because he's shit. If this is true, I'd be happy to see him dropped, and for him to never make a song again.
February 9, 200916 yr Haha, good point. I can't imagine "Forever" blasting out of the windows of an Escalade in the hood. :) Then again, Rihanna is pretty "pop" yet she performs with convicted felon TI...
