Those VARIOUS ARTISTS kept DEEP HEAT up there. THE MISSION entered high, then fell abruptly the following week. ERIC CLAPTON was heading towards a number 2 album, and couldn`t stop Phil. Although the album was one of Eric`s biggest. TANITA TIKARAM better the predecessor "ANCIENT HEART", by one place getting to number 2. THE CHRISTIANS were quite happy, as they had knocked Phil off for a couple of weeks. FISH (out of MARILLION) had his first solo album. LISA STANSFIELD was up and down. EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL were heading for the top ten (just). ROD STEWART was Mr Forever, as ever. CHRIS REA was on his 15th week, going down the M25! PURE SOFT METAL got ready for Valentine`s Day. Which in 1990 was on a Wednesday. Proving that the following week it would be back up for CHER, TINA TURNER, and LISA STANSFIELD. Meanwhile, outside the top 20 was the compilation "BODY AND SOUL-HEART AND SOUL II". On the following week this went from 30 - 16. As the Original Soundtrack from the London production of "MISS SAIGON" would crash into the top 10, with a lack of LLYOD WEBBER involvement...it must`ve been good! :teresa: The Network Chart in Feb 1990: 01 01 NOTHIN COMPARES TO YOU - SINEAD O` CONNOR 02 02 GET UP (BEFORE THE NIGHT IS OVER) - TECHNOTRONIC/YA KID K. 03 03 HAPPENIN` ALL OVER AGAIN - LONNIE GORDEN 04 29 DUB BE GOOD TO ME - BEATS INTERNATIONAL/NORMAN COOK/LINDY LAYTON 05 09 WALK ON BY - SYBIL 06 06 I WISH IT WOULD RAIN DOWN - PHIL COLLINS 07 05 GOT TO HAVE YOUR LOVE - MANTRONIX/WONDRESS 08 14 LIVE TOGETHER - LISA STANSFIELD 09 NE I DON`T KNOW ANYBODY ELSE - BLACKBOX 10 04 TEARS ON MY PILLOW - KYLIE MINOGUE 11 11 NOTHING EVER HAPPENS - DEL AMITRI 12 07 TOUCH ME - 49ERS 13 10 INSTANT REPLAY - YELL 14 18 18 AND LIFE - SKID ROW 15 19 THE FACE - AND WHY NOT 16 08 COULD HAVE TOLD YOU SO - HALO JAMES 17 21 JUST LIKE JESSE JAMES - CHER 18 16 SHINE ON - HOUSE OF LOVE 19 30 HELLO - BELOVED 20 34 COME BACK TO ME - JANET JACKSON 21 12 HANGIN`TOUGH - NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK 22 20 I`LL BE GOOD TO YOU - QUINCY JONES/RAY CHARLES/CHAKA KHAN 23 27 KING AND QUEEN OF AMERICA - EURYTHMICS 24 23 WELCOME - GINO LATINO 25 NE ENJOY THE SILENCE - DEPECHE MODE 26 13 YOU MAKE ME FEEL - JIMMY SOMERVILLE 27 40 BAD LOVE - ERIC CLAPTON 28 15 N-R-G - ADAMSKI 29 39 DOWNTOWN TRAIN - ROD STEWART 30 17 GOING BACK TO MY ROOTS - FPI PROJECT/RICH IN PARADISE/PAOLO DINI 31 24 JUICY - WRECKS N`EFFECT 32 NE BRASSNECK - WEDDING PRESENT 33 22 PUT YOUR HANDS TOGETHER - D MOB/NUFF JUICE 34 35 PROBABLY A ROBBERY - RENEGADE SOUNDWAVE 35 NE TELL ME THERE`S A HEAVEN - CHRIS REA 36 NE BIKINI GIRLS WITH MACHINE GUNS - CRAMPS 37 26 ALL FOR LOVE - RAZE 38 NE EPIC - FAITH NO MORE 39 25 MORE THAN YOU KNOW - MARTIKA 40 NE STEAMY WINDOWS - TINA TURNER 41 31 GOT TO GET - ROB N`RAZ/LEILA K. 42 NE DER ERBEERMUND - CULTURE BEAT 43 28 WAS THAT ALL IT WAS - KYM MAZELLE 44 NE NO BLUE SKIES - LLOYD COLE 45 32 GET A LIFE/JAZZIE'S GROOVE - SOUL II SOUL 46 47 BELFAST - ENERGY ORCHARD 47 NE WALK ON THE WILD SIDE - JAMIE J.MORGAN 48 33 SLEEP WITH ME - BIRDLAND 49 45 LOVE DON`T COME EASY - THE ALARM 50 NE PUT IT THERE - PAUL MCCARTNEY SINEAD sings PRINCE ruling the top in 1990 for a total of 5 weeks. BEATS INTERNATIONAL sings the SOS BAND not far away. LONNIE GORDON all over the airwaves but stuck at 3. SYBIL covering DIONNE WARWICK, THE STRANGLERS etc...What was good about the Stranglers version, then? Well it was a rather long record, abeit anything else! PHIL COLLINS was "raining", and actually topped the chart in one particular part of England. Aside these big hits...BLACK BOX were kind of being copied by the 49ERS. YELL could`ve only been a flash in the pan, covering (this time around) a 1978 DAN HARTMAN classic. Same could be said for AND WHY NOT...who disappeared rapidly. HALO JAMES may have thought they were on a good thing with a good hit, but then the title was "Could`ve Told You So". CHER was having problems with JESSE JAMES. Some well played minor hits by way of the BELOVED, HOUSE OF LOVE, QUINCY JONES, EURYTHMICS, GINO LATINO, and ERIC CLAPTON only nudged the top 20. With a hell of a lot other re-makes with KYLIE going down with a LITTLE ANTHONY 1950s cover, not to mention our old "Mr Potatohead" JIMMY SOMERVILLE covering 1978`s late SYLVESTER. So many other forgotten hits further down. When was the last time we heard those songs from WRECKS N`EFFECT, WEDDING PRESENT, RENEGADE SOUNDWAVE, CRAMPS, FAITH NO MORE, MARTIKA, CULTURE BEAT`s subtitled song (CHERRY LIPS), KYM MAZELLE, LLYOD COLE, ENERGY ORCHARD, JAMIE J.MORGAN (covering Lou Reed), BIRDLAND, and the ALARM...most of which were not even played much in 1990, apart from MARTIKA, and not forgetting PAUL MCCARTNEY`s number 29 high, with "PUT IT THERE". Even Radio 2 played that in their Bryant "I Love The 40s" Marriott days. Coming soon the latest singles chart (with a few surprises in the physical chart)...hang around!

February 13, 200916 yr Thanks Dave! Only just come online, it's cool to see this :) Surprised how far Killers - Spaceman is from the top 40, but glad to see Saint Etienne hang in there :)
February 13, 200916 yr Author Thanks Dave! Only just come online, it's cool to see this :) Surprised how far Killers - Spaceman is from the top 40, but glad to see Saint Etienne hang in there :) Anytime Tom. Nice to see St Etienne get the number 11 physical single, as well. You will be pleased to know.
February 13, 200916 yr So it look like Spaceman will do Snow Patrols CTS. Being 2nd release from album and just missing the top 40 but stick around for a while :( Plus it looks like Martin was right about MCR too :( Edited February 13, 200916 yr by Rock N Rolla
February 13, 200916 yr Shame. They could climb over the weekend, but I don't think they are really the kind of songs that do :(
February 13, 200916 yr UB40's album looks very low on there, when its top 5 in today's mids. As for the singles, I'm surprised with the Prodigy top 10, I didn't think they would get that high, and Saint Etienne, its virtually hanging in by a thread. Killers and MCR were always looking a bit of a miss for me. Killers might push Saint Etienne out by Sunday.
February 13, 200916 yr UB40's album looks very low on there, when its top 5 in today's mids. If I remember right, the albums are based on Wednesday's mids. Not sure why though. Dave?
February 13, 200916 yr Author If I remember right, the albums are based on Wednesday's mids. Not sure why though. Dave? Wednesday lunchtime to be exact. That`s because Chart Show tv break off on Weds too, and I don`t think it`s worth updating it for a Friday Afternoon. On the whole the slap bang in the middle of the week albums, is better placed. Believe me! For instance all that nonsensical Valentine`s Day stuff will be well over by next Wednesday.
February 13, 200916 yr That's true. The album's chart is manipulated this week almost as much as the Singles was at Christmas...
February 13, 200916 yr Author That's true. The album's chart is manipulated this week almost as much as the Singles was at Christmas... By the way Tom, and everyone...don`t forget to check out the updated list of physical number ones from August 2008 - February 2009, in the reference library section.
February 13, 200916 yr Hi on my mobile in a bar overlooking the canalways in Manchester so gotta be brief. Cheers intresting stuff! Hope Prodigy are a bit higher on Sunday.
February 13, 200916 yr Atleast Morrissey has another physical #1 and I hope he stays top 20 & S.E. top 40!
